Oops, I pasted in the wrong thing trying to quote your post...

Should have read:

I realize that this will not be universally supported but I believe that we should invade and take over the government of Mexico:

Turn the place into a penal Colony. Empty our jails.

"Authorities arrived at the site of the crime and ordered the transfer of human remains for investigation."

It's called "getting rid of the evidence"....

Mexico sucks really bad.....

Mexico is a kleptocracy where it’s politicians steal everything in sight and blame The United States.

“They have issues which they should have dealt with on their own long ago. They aren’t for us to solve.”

I agree with your statement, as long as the fences are there and the border is enforced.

But on the other side of the coin, if the public supported Bush going to war with Iraq without any physical evidence of WMD’s, then certainly, a much better case could be made for going to war with Mexico to stop the current invasion.

The idea of taking over these countries is to give the people better governments and in the long run enhance our own security. If that is a fact, then flushing Mexico of it’s cartels and crappy government would benefit the Mexican citizen as well as the US.

They would all magically get refugee status and then *poof*, any remaining semblance of a border wouldn’t be gone forever. Of course, all said refugees would get fast track dual citizenship and the right to vote.

I been giving that wall some thought...

I think maybe the last thing in the world the stinking politicians in DC want is a wall on the Mexican border.... There are BILLIONS of dollars in narcotics coming across that border every year.... The Mexicans, and that most likely includes the Mexican government, will pay bribes, BIG TIME BRIBES to anyone who furthers their cause.... I mean it is, after all, a very major part of their economy.... Right..?

And another thing...it's the liberals that consume all the drugs in our country. We should make a point to hang all the murders, broken families and every day butchery around the neck of every liberal politician every chance we get... NEVER miss an opportunity to paint them BLOODY RED...

Sorry for the rant....but that wall "IS" all about the drug money......

MHO. :(

I was really kidding - but since we have a large part of Mexico already here, why not codify the process?

About 20 years ago my battalion adopted a Christian orphanage just across the border as our personal charity project and I was stunned to see how bad things were. No running water, no functioning toilets, filth everywhere and no doors or windows. It was like the Bronze Age a few miles South of San Diego. We did great work fixing that place up and feeding the kids but after six months the Pastor ran off with all the money and the van.

Yeah, everybody’d scream and denounce us - but taking over would be the best thing to happen for Mexico.

Since Mexico hasn’t honored our sovereignty, turnabout’s fair play.

France and Maximillian failed because they were conducting a war across thousands of miles. We have nice solid interior lines to conduct a sustained campaign.

Besides, have you seen the Mexican army? We could annihilate them with our National Guard.

Yes, they would have “all the money and a van”

I know what you are saying, but the sad fact is there is no fixing some situations or people. But that should not stop us from trying, but it should give us some wisdom in doing so.

If we were being serious (and I haven’t been) we would have to lay a lot of ground work by pitching the idea of a formal union and all of the benefits and freedom that would ensue.

As mentioned earlier, the downside would be the staggering differences in culture and education. Very hard to bring them up to speed in an reasonable period of time.

Mexico could be wealthy like us but they are crippled by a system that permanently restricts people into ignorance, poverty and crime.

By all means let’s send your sons to fight both the Mexican government and the drug cartels. For what again? How about we not kill anymore americans sons for problems other countries refuse to solve.

My solution. Napalm, bomb, mine and fence a 2 mile exclusion zone on the boarder. Tell the Mexican government they have 6 months to fix their shit or every politician gets a drone strike.

No more american blood for cowards, thrives and terrorists!!!!!!

Like Iraq? Like Vietnam? Or like the Redcoats thought about the colonials?

C'mon, have we learned nothing from the past? We don't have the will to fight an interminable war that we only get into because we were stupid enough to think we were invincible.

A wall is one thing. Occupying a nation of over 100 million people is another. Mexico is much bigger than Iraq, Afghanistan, or South Vietnam.

BTW, there will never be a North American Union. Neither the Mexicans nor the Canadians would willingly enter a union with a much larger country. Both nations hold grudges against the United States as the result of 19th Century wars and their national identities are in part based on those grudges.

*Sigh* I don’t to bust your bubble, but in all three cases you cite, war had to conducted and supported from across oceans. Mexico is right here. Easy least. It’s a short drive and their army’s armed with antiques.

Now, I would never really advocate a war - so my earlier musings were just gist for discussion. But your answers strike me as borderline cowardice - you know, the “we should never fight again because Vietnam and Iraq were hard” - am I wrong?
