I responded early, as you where nailed by others for not using “hugh”! :-)
Have you ever been here?
They were starving to death? Like bloody hell. How did the numbers climb to 22,000 elk? Were you feeding them PIZZA?
I've lived in the middle of the Yellowstone herd for more than 30 years, and while the herd was growing too large, there were many, many ways to move elk and reduce the numbers other than wanton slaughter by non-native wolves.
You are parroting the line of the Sierra Club, Earth First, and other more hate-driven groups. Those who talk like you are out to ruin farmers, ranchers and (of course) outfitters, and also to thwart working households from adding elk meat to their meals.
Do you know how it works now, Prof? Rich men from around the country and world fly into this area and pay thousands of dollars to hunt trophy bull elk on huge private ranches. Elk are now being killed by wolves and the very wealthy, while public grounds---where I have always hunted, for meat only---are barren of big game animals, because that's where the wolves live.
Once again highly enlightened people like yourself have added layers of government and have wasted millions of dollars to screw with and damage an environment that you pretend you are "saving," and in the process have hurt ordinary working families by depriving them of food and recreation, and also the wonderful gift of having large, healthy elk herds in the region.
Believe me, I have seen what a wolfpack does to elk, bulls, cows, calves, and even fetal calves....and it is murderous, wasteful and disgusting, much as are those who have brought the situation about.
If one is so stupid not to understand the difference between the situation here on the ground NOW as opposed to the "late 1800s," then that stupid person either actively hopes to drive human beings off the land here OR what he has for brains is most likely what becomes of pizza after it is eaten, digested and sent on its way.
"Prof"...yes, that sounds about right.
“...penguins simply pick up and move”
they are smarter then those people in the African desert.

That ought to do it.
The real pain would be getting enough charcoal fired up on the ice...
That, and getting enough folks there to eat it all. (Wasting food is a sin.)
It’s on ice, it’ll keep! (If it doesn’t freezer burn).
Geez, Whitey, S...S...S... and leave the ones with collars on be...
(Hi! I'd like 10,000 penguins to go...)
Or delivery, maybe. (Via Amazon drones?)
" I certainly would get rid of the ranches etc. who obviously are distorting the system
So YOU are the arbiter of what is distorting "the system"? You and your vicious ilk are the ones to decide who gets to stay on the land?
This was exactly what I would expect from you and yours in private company, though most certainly aren't bone-dumb enough to tip their hands in public.
You ought to do all of us at FR a great favor and tell us what other "distortions," human and otherwise, you would add to your list of expendables.
But you won't do that for us, will you? Because the kind of "they don't need to exist" talk is fine between you and your facist colleagues, and to massage into your gullible students...but in the real world, in the adult world, your fantasies and delusions of power just don't hold up.
Coyotes. How pathetic. Comparing a coyote to a wolfpack is like running from a feral cat (which I expect you would do) because it reminds you of a movie you once saw about mountain lion.
You don't know anything about this area. It seems you haven't experienced anything outside the academy. And yet you obviously have your list of what and who should be allowed to exist and flourish and what and who shouldn't.
I beg you, "Prof," to tell us what it is you profess. Tell us who and what in your brave new world will be allowed to live.
p.s. And btw if you knew anything about this region, besides what you hear at the faculty club and in your Sierra Club magazine, you would know that the native wolves were NEVER eliminated. Farmers and ranchers and hunters, too, for that matter, have always known where the small native packs continued to roam, and to "coexist," as the professoriat likes to say.
I don’t care to receive ignorant, vulgar private messages from the likes of you, Prof.
So don’t send anymore.
If you have something you wish to discuss, we can take it up here in public.
p.s. I do really love me some Ron White though.
Very well. I am willing to apologize and bury the hatchet as a fellow Ron White devotee. I will stand corrected.
Good thing. Here too.
Sending you a freepmail now, hope that’s all right.
