Key paragraphs:

The problem isn’t that the Republican voters aren’t conservative anymore. They simply don’t believe in the agents of conservatism they have entrusted with power.

They’re now finally rejecting them as weak and ineffective, not to mention obnoxious and increasingly nasty to their own voters.

Um.. trump is a very new conservative at best.... and has No deeds to show him as one only words. If he did have a road to Damascus conversion all well and good but a few deeds before running as one would have made me less likely to read all the things he has said and deeds he has done that are very liberal and come to the conclusion that he is more Elmer Gantry than Ronald Regan

“National Review means well, but they mean well”

I have to take issue with just this small part. No they don’t mean well at all. NRO and their chattering bobble heads are the gatekeepers for the GOP establishment and the political class in general. They wet their beaks in the same pond. Trump is a threat to their whole ineffective orderly way of keeping the status quo. They mean to take Trump down and Cruz along with him if possible and get Rubio or Jeb or somebody in the club to the nomination.

Fortunately they are doing a poor job of reading the electorate as you pointed out and its going to massively backfire on them.

“will they support the Democrat? (either by voting for her directly, or by backing a third party or not voting, which amount to objective support for the Democrat).”

This will make some FReeper heads explode.

Well Trump did not vote for TPA or the Iran deal if those are the conservatives deeds you are hanging your hat on. I might also point out that the GOPe, Goldman Sachs and the CFG are not paying his way in this election ether. Does that solidify Trump not having conservative credentials in your book?

Do us a favor and don’t turn this thread into a Cruz-Trump fistfight.

Ted Grant has offered some good thoughts to chew on.

This will get rid of the rogue characters. Since the problem seems unfixable.

Exactly. I would add that the GOPe agents of conservatism are also perceived, certainly by me, as complicit with the socialist democrat leaders in furthering the goals of the anti American left.
