FReepmail or drop me a comment to get on or off the Sultan Knish ping list. I highly recommend an occasional look at the Sultan Knish blog. It is a rich source of materials, links and more from one of the preeminent writers of our age.
We are uniquely privileged to be able to enjoy DG from our perch at FR.

A little perspective on the new nonmorality. It will remain with us until we finally eradicate the left.
Bump
“goosestepping to the right”
One little quibble, if I may...
Nazism is NOT “The right”. “Nazi” is short for National SOCIALIST. The absolute right would be no government at all.
Unfortunately, the “left” has labeled the Nazis as “Right Wing” and then lump all of us conservatives in with them.
Otherwise, Dan hits it out of the park, as usual!
Guess what...Gunter Grass, the subject of this essay, just croaked TODAY!
Yes...the 60’s are the years when the left started gaining control of the language. Now people say things that have a totally different meaning than they did in my childhood (50’s)
The Language of the 3rd Reich by Victor Klemperer details the language manipulation the nazis used to manipulate the German people into accepting “mistreatment” of the jews.
The saddest part is that nazis were only using propaganda methods developed by Wilsonian progressives a couple decades before.
Things like inserting homosexuals into every facet of life to make them appear to have overwhelming numbers is a tried and true method.
There spiritual godfather of the Baader-Meinhof Gang.
Indeed.
For years, the only homosexuals I knew was one guy in High School and two guys in Art College in the fashion design department.
They had little mannerisms about them, but were not totally blatant about it.
It worked out to about 1.5% of the population. Kind of the same as now, but you would never know it from the media.
I agree. They were the “terrorists” until the muzzies took over.
The only difference between Nazism and Marxism is semantics. “Nuance”, to use the favorite word of Harfy. Both are tyranny. Fascism is a little to the right, but still of the left, since it makes a joke of private property and civil liberties, thus still of the left.
No government at all (the real far right) is not possible due to the sin nature of man (a concept that I am sure the Founding Fathers were familiar with it), and saw that the best would probably be minarchism (the minimum amount of government to maintain civil order, if we must use terms using the suffix “-ism”). Still then there was the balancing influence of the Judeo-Christian culture as the guiding moral force, which included the accountability of those holding office. Today we are in danger of losing that compass, some say we have already lost it.
I agree completely!
Our Founding Fathers knew that a strong Judeo-Christian ethic was necessary for this noble republic to survive.
That shift came, I think, as the Marxists took over academia. The Marxists always tried to portray anyone to the right of them as some kind of fascists, because that is the only comparison they can make which might show Communism in a favorable light. So that is naturally how they redefined the political spectrum once they started teaching the political science classes.
I was watching a show about the lost airmen of Buchenwald the other day. I never realized that German communists ran the camp until I heard one of the old pilots say it.
The communists were inmates but lived in luxury compared to everyone else. It allowed the nazis to run the camp with minimal personnel and the communists were just as brutal as the nazis.
That is very interesting!
He got some of his “psychological” tactics from his uncle Simund.
Yep...THAT Sigmund.
That is a false characterization of left and right.
Both Communism and socialism are based on centralized control. They are both leftist.
The right is characterized by decentralized control of the government.
