Humblegunner missed the fact that the original article duplicated from today’s blog post, was published originally and posted here 2 years ago.

But now you are a liberal in 2015 and the society is already very liberal. You are the product of liberal professors who learned at the feet of other liberal professors for 3 or 4 generations. You grew up in a liberal community to parents whose grandparents were already singing red campfire songs. Like them, you came of age as a member of a natural elite.

You make an interesting argument, but red diaper babies are pretty rare in today's America.

It's not that they've somehow managed to win over the country, it's that people in the Establishment dislike and fear the right, rather than the left. You can chalk that up to Bill Clinton, I guess. So the Establishment, those in power in society, give the left a pass, especially on issues that don't immediately affect the Establishment's economic position -- you know, the issues that they can feel good about striking moral poses over without it costing them anything in taxes.

To put it another way, conservatives are convinced it's 1979, and the country is ready to repudiate liberals and whoever the Jimmy Carter of the moment is. For the Establishment and a lot of well off Americans in the big metropolitan areas, it's more like 1959. They don't see what liberalism could cost them, either in material or in non-material terms, but see the right wing as the enemy.

Media people fit in somewhere in between. They're more liberal and more activist than the bankers who vote Democratic, but red diaper babies and graduates of socialist summer camps aren't as common among them as you think.
