Hey, this works on Star Trek!

I say we institute this right after we invent warp drive and the transporter.

So they think some people should be paid simply for existing, while others should be paid for producing what makes existing comfortable.

Anyone care to guess how such a relationship will eventually work out?

"They've gone mad."

UBI just moves the bar around and when you are dealing with "funny Money" it really doesn't matter that much.

I guarantee you if it is implemented 10 years post date (probably much sooner) there will still be the same number of people living below the poverty line.

Universal Basic Income has to be predicated on the average world income which is or was $10,000/year.

No one can earn more than that because the money above the average would go to a COLA for everyone to maintain the Basic.

Since no one makes more than $10,000, all prices for basic goods would be based on that number, meaning there would be nothing left for vacations, innovation, or the like. There would be no such thing as disposable income.

All problems would be solved since everyone would be too poor to do anything beyond living in the government supplied tenement which will take a certain percent of the basic for rent, same with food, etc.

Since all this is guaranteed by government, the government would mandate what is for sale and the price of the item (which everyone must buy).

Since the government regulates everything, the government would have to have a way of strictly enforcing the rules surrounding the Basic. Therefore there would be penalties for cheaters and other miscreants; these penalties would range from small fines to capital punishment.

In short, the Universal Basic Income mandates universal (worldwide) Communism or some other government-centric Socialist ideology like Islam ...

These idiotic techies would be living in some sort of coders paradise which can be coded with a single universal language ... including the death camps for those who cannot see the light ...

Techies pushing this idea do not or refuse to see the end results of Universal Basic Income; very likely these are the same coders who push the app you hate but have to use, or cause your cursor to jump at random times to random screen locations ...

Evidence for your bold assertion? That, in America, without welfare, children would be starving in the streets? Is that the way things were before the advent of welfare?

India (40 years ago).

As I specified: in America.

Where in America were children starving in the streets because there was no welfare?
