This one is worth seeing on the big screen. I max if you can. The visual is stunning.

I remember the horror when those little toy machines went from a quarter to two quarters.

Pixar has actually been making great movies that just haven’t done as well at the box office as Disney. “Rise of the Guardians” was family friendly and respectful of religion. “Legend of the Guardians” had excellent analogies of standing up to evil but powerful people who push you to go along.
And “Big Hero 6” actually breaks the “evil capitalist” stereotype in an interesting twist. In short, you think the capitalist is evil, but he isn’t the villain. And it affirms doing good without the increasingly “good guy is just less bad than the bad guys” Marvel portrays.

Go look up the current vale of one of those 90% silver quarters.

As I sat here thinking of the annual income in 1960, it struck me that folks got paid in gold and silver back then. Imagine what 7,500 in 1960 gold or silver would be worth today.

Therein lies the real story.

Did we see the same movie? I can’t remember when I last wasted so much time, unless it was back when I used to devour superhero comic books (age 10 or 11). Unless you are just into being impressed by CGI and really don’t know anything about black holes or quantum physics this was absolute comic book level entertainment. Having said that people who enjoy sci-fi or are just fascinated by psuedo-realistic pictures of spaceships and ‘other worlds’ will probably enjoy the heck out of this... And I will defend to the death their right to do so!

My brother and I went to see it, and overall, we both didn’t think much of the movie, although there we elements of it that we did enjoy.

I did enjoy the conversation the main character had with the school officials about his child, but they managed to balance that out with dialogue that made it clear the people who wrote the screenplay had liberal points of view on many things.

I didn’t think the acting was all that much better than “Gravity”, and that isn’t a compliment, but the special effects in “Gravity” were VERY good, in my opinion. (One caveat: watching it in 2D was boring...I got the 2D version from the library thinking I could watch it in 3D, but it didn’t have that on the video, only the 2D version, and I re-watched the parts with good special effects, and without those in 3D, you actually started hearing what the actors said and how they said it, and...that was it. Couldn’t watch anymore after that.

On the other hand, I am a sucker for good footage of rocket stages falling away back to earth, and they had a few of those in “Interstellar”.

That was how I saw it as well...a bit of a mixed bag, and because of that, the inconsistency was distracting, IMO.

I have never been a huge fan of Matthew McConaughey, and I didn’t really appreciate his performance. Too mumbled to me. But I liked his portrayal as a dinosaur.

Really hit home for me in that aspect...:)

Pixar was the undisputed master of the trade. Not just in their graphics, but in the way they told their stories.

“Up” was the last Pixar production I enjoyed. Before that, “WALL-E” was...meh.

Then, everything after that was terrible. “Brave” sucked, the rest were forgettable.

Sigh. I think Dreamworks produces far better stuff now. I miss the Pixar that gave us “The Incredibles”.

I’ve heard an Incredibles sequel is in the works.

That was a very brief part of the 3 hour movie. I did not read that as the writers politics at all. Perhaps his are just the opposite.

He portrayed Academia as liberal “know it alls” that were wrong in the movie. The majority of the movie was about the Space travel that the “liberal academia” said was not possible. Remember they used the Moon landings as their proof.

I though Matthew Mcconaughey acting was very good. I agree with you about “Gravity”. That movie was just okay to me. This on the other hand was very good.

The movie over the last half was a bit high brow material. Most people do not understand dimensions, black holes, dark matter, etc... This movie covered that material very well, and I though simplified it?

Anyhow, this blows out Gravity IMO.

That would be good to see...I have lost a bit of faith with them, so...if they can make a good one, I would enjoy that.

Yep, we saw the same movie.

As I drove home, I sat there and could think of a dozen problems with the way the script was written out. I admit, it made you go through a lot of thinking...and it did present some interesting turns at various points. And I’ll go ahead and admit I just never got into Quantum Leap (the TV show).

Was a big fan of Pixar. It had the spark that Disney lost.

Then its movies seemed to have lost their vitality. Quite disappointed by Ratatouille and despised WALL-E. Should just have titled both PC.

Maybe they recovered their spark. Will check out the movies you cited.

Yes. IMO he’s good at his craft and improving. All that I ask of an actor.

And therein lies my disappointment with current movies. While special effects, cinematography, sound, and special effects are phenomenal, scripting, directing, and acting are abysmal.

It is now a rare delight for me when they all come together for a solid movie. This one may have it.
