Las Vegas has a unique problem: It grew so quickly that measures to help it function properly have been overlooked. It is still growing to the tune of 50 new miles of streets every month.

They don’t even allow houses to “season” and “settle” but move people in before the paint is dry.

The growing pains are terrible, so it’s no wonder we can’t do anything about the water...we’re side-tracked by streets that end at brick walls and other streets that act as flood channels when it rains.

It’s interesting to watch the growth...

Yes it is, if it is from the heat exchanger’s cold side.
I empty the bottles every few days at work.
We use the heat from the A/C to help heat the hot water in the building.
Computer heat used to wash your hands...

The doctor thinks he got all the cancer out, but it’s hard to tell, with the damage from 64 years of smoking.

If only he'd smoked pot those 65 years, he wouldn't have lung cancer! </idiot>

Perfect. All the tension needed to make a good story summarized in a single sentence.

” Now, graph that sentence.”

My brain panicked at the word “graph”, threw a chair out the window, and ran off screaming into the monster filled woods.

"All the tension needed to make a good story summarized in a single sentence."

I noticed that too. Darks would have less trouble writing if he just gave in to the fun that it is. I'm particularly fond of this little element:

Wade grunted, “Neighbors.”

“Huh?”

“Next door. New neighbors.”

“Oh,” Timmy said, then paused, “I’m gonna go see ‘em!”

Wade was staring at the ham, trying to figure out where it had come from, because it looked like it was coming through the wall. Belatedly, he responded, “Well, don’t you go pestering them! I don’t think they like pests.”

He heard his own screen door slam. “… Nobody likes pests,” Wade continued softly. He reached for a large knife.

Wade figured if he couldn’t get the ham out one way, he’d just carve it out a slice or two at a time.

After years of living in the hundred monster wood, the roving brains wandered out into civilization once more, horribly perplexed by the changes to society.
Which they promptly began poking with sticks.

Congratulations on being home in sunny Arizona! It’s sunny here in NC, too, but it will be getting dark soon.

65 and clear, no breeze. I was out soaking up some sun a little earlier, and it wore me out! LOL!

I’m feeling a little better, but not up to par. I have to have another blood test Monday, and after that, the doctor will tell me if I need another transfusion. What a bother...

But it will be nice to feel like a real human again! LOL!

I had a retreat committee meeting all morning. It was nice. The retreat will be Feb. 21-22. Then we took the birthday brothers shopping. Now I’m making the cake for tomorrow. Then I’ll give them supper. Bill and Sally have gone to church.

DP said we should go out to dinner, but then he remembered he has to be on the phone with the office from 7:00 to 8:00. I can read to the byos instead, although we can’t move on with “The Two Towers” until Pat comes back from camp tomorrow.

Wasn’t there a movie just like that with Mel Gibson? I’ve never liked Nicholas Cage much, not even in “Valley Girls.”

Thanks! I depend heavily on FReepers’ reviews before I buy a DVD series or books. I’ve wanted to order “Red Dwarf” for a long time and I think that’ll be the next “present” Mr. Sg gets for me! I think I’ve seen the Nicolas Cage film. He’s supposed to be bankrupt or something, no?
