‘Face is responsible for keeping all the Undead out of jail and at least tenuously connected to this part of the space-time continuum.

Wow...where did that come from???

That's a big responsibility, what with all the recalcitrants, miscreants and ne'er-do-wells on here...

Tom could go to Southern Piedmont and become a licensed Child Development Specialist. Then he could spend his life surrounded by obedient minions who agree with everything he says.

“Do you want to drink the blood of our enemies?”
“Yes!”
“Should we watch the video of elk sounds first?”
“YES!”

He could be a “manny” and take children out in the woods to study nature, get filthy, set fires, and blow stuff up. I was joking when I started out, but it’s actually a legitimate Plan B if he doesn’t pull together his academic competencies and succeed at Appalachian State. (They’re not going to hear about his grades at CP, since we weren’t planning on trying to transfer the credit.)

Even I, more afraid of my parents than any student who wasn’t Chinese or Indian, blew some stuff off the senior year, after I had my National Merit Scholarship nailed ;-).

Well, that’s a fine public service, no doubt.

It is. My friend who has a son with legal problems - due to things like drug use, assault, and theft - says it’s all very expensive, what with bail and court costs and stuff.

If ‘Face keeps us in line, we can contribute to the FReepathon!

Somehow, I can see Tom in all those scenarios. My question (and it may be his as well) is, how much does it pay?

My father died when I was 17, and I was a new bride, but I was still responsible for his funeral arrangements and the reception line.

Some days, responsibility is extremely heavy.

I believe it was then that I truly grew up. And it has been a solid progression ever since, though it has taken me to interesting places.

LOL!
That’s really odd...since ‘Face can’t even contribute to the FReepathons herself!

My biggest bad habit is eating and keeping the Tracker on the road!

O! I just laughed out loud and I actually HEARD ME!!! For a short second, I had a voice! LOL!

That’s a good savings (and a fine goal).

Well, the community college schooling is cheap, and he’s good plenty of savings, thanks to OldTax-lady and the Captain. Child care can pay very well, if you get to work for the 1%. I understand from my reading that there’s really a market for guys to work in child care and get the kids outdoors, help with sports, etc. (I don’t know whether not being gay would be good or bad.)

Children love Tom, especially babies and preschoolers. He could be like “The Butler” and have a book and a reality show. He’s certainly got the big personality and the showmanship.

Tom can be anything he wants to be; all he has to do is define that “any” and set up a goal plan. If he has it in writing where he can see it every day, the chances are enormous that he will do exactly what he wants and be paid exactly what he feels he is worth. Nothing is holding him back but...fear of the unknown!

Yes, the Unknown is tough for them. I think I jumped out because I imagined that the Unknown was the Known, and didn’t find out how wrong I was until it was too late.

We were talking about our children at my prayer group last week, and Chris, who is about 70, said that she doesn’t feel responsible for her children’s bad choices. The rest of us were all shocked, and said things to the effect of, “How incredibly freeing that must be!”

"He could be a “manny” and take children out in the woods to study nature, get filthy, set fires, and blow stuff up."

That sounds rather intriguing, but I just know there's a catch to it.

I bet they expect you to bring the children back, don't they?

I agree with Chris. Past the age of 14, (could be younger or older) your children pretty well know what’s what. They know about consequences of good or bad decisions, and since they are past “the age of reason,” your responsibility for their choices is nil.

Every day, we are presented with options: Do I get up now or stay in bed 15 minutes? Do I wear a clean shirt? Do I want a good grade or am I happy with mediocrity? Do I do things for my children or insist they learn to do it? Do I drive or take the bus?

My children are who they are because of the choices THEY made. It was my responsibility to teach them right from wrong, to teach them to balance a checkbook and be responsible for getting themselves up in the morning, but whether they choose to do such things when they leave home is up to them.

My heart has been broken more than once by my children, but the love for them has never stopped. And no matter what they did, or how much I hated the decisions they made, I shut my mouth and allowed them to learn on their own. THAT is painful. My heart still hurts, but I know that they are individuals who need roots and wings. I have tried to give them both.

Chris is very wise! Listen to her!

Hiya, Bob! I can say that because you aren’t here, so I don’t have to worry about trying to SAY that! LOL!

Uninjured, and not having had so much fun that they decide to set fires and blow stuff up at unapproved times.

Perhaps they teach managing these conflicts in the Child Development program at Southern Piedmont.

I chat online so much that my fingers twitch out typing combinations when I’m talking.

Actually, I just peruse the online chatter and then go write books and stuff.

Writing books is easy. Writing stuff is hard.

Talking is very difficult...
