Hence, concrete. It pretty effectively wraps it up.
The advantage for the concrete is that the microstructure of the ash provides a better high-strength bond. Volcanic ash works in a similar fashion.
Very interesting. I wonder how the costs compare, coal ash vs. volcanic ash for the same industrial use.
Mostly it’s a way of disposing of something considered all too plentiful, otherwise transportation becomes the primary factor.
Coal has other attributes to recommend against its common usage, but we have so much of it! It would be a shame, economically, if we did not use it to our best advantage while we can.
Eventually, the push that should get nuclear properly implemented may be the promise to use its abundant excess of energy to clean up the leavings of previous techniques, like coal.
I has deturmunashuns!
You’re an inspiration!
I’m trying to get everything clean for the Advent Kitteh, in spite of the dog and Tom’s essays and all. I don’t think I’m going to make it, but at least it’s closer.

My dog doesn’t like water. D0se your menagerie swim?
It’s finally up to 40 degrees, and somewhat sunny, with no breeze. I’ll be glad when Tuesday gets here, so I can get a haircut. My cowlick is obvious!
It’s hard to imagine that December will be here tomorrow... I want to put up the tree, just because I have one, but then I thought about putting it all away again. I guess the best thing is to do it Monday so a month will pass before I have to undo it! LOL!
At least I have room for one, here!
Weird. Santana likes to swim. So does Piper.
42 here, according to the tv weather-feed. DP has gone to Walmart to get me some anti-static spray. I have Cling, and it is not pretty.
We can simply put the air through a strainer. Problem solved.
I’m just mostly geekin’ today. I don’t seem to have much in the way of incentive. Maybe I’m saving up my energy for Monday, when I get to decorate! YAY!!!!
And I still can’t seem to get warm. I have no idea what’s up with that, but my hands don’t want to function. When I worked and my hands got cold, I used fingerless gloves. I was surprised how well they worked at keeping my hands warm.
A very big, extremely fine-mesh strainer.
*sznicker*
We’re leaving for a Quinceanera (at which DP and Elen will play the guitar and I will sing) as soon as he gets back with the anti-static spray. I won’t look stuning with my flounces creeping clumpily above my knees!
G’day!
I hate the clingy stuff.
Enjoy yourselves! It sounds like fun!
That was fantastic! Thanks for posting!
Or bubble the air through water like those Rainbow vacuums do. But then what do you do with the water?
Someone designed two huge, tall water towers to perform the same function in the desert to solve their pollution problem, but it was prohibitively expensive so they didn’t pursue it.
Have fun!
Decorate? I dunno. We haven’t for several years. We have enough ornaments and stuff to cover a large tree, and some thick garland around half the living room. It’s been too much of a pain lately, but we’re almost there. Maybe next year.
We always put up our Nativity scene on fireplace mantle. Always. I need to go get that from storage, probably stop by my folk’s house to get the Halloween stuff they borrowed.
