Beautiful! Thanks!
Oooh. There was a Twilight Zone about that. The hole was in the wall behind the headboard of the little girl's bed.
That would be a dimensional door.
Those can be difficult to clean from walls.
We have them, as you'll recall. But we find them unreliable.
Among other things, they make mapping difficult.
The most reliable junction is the link to Key West, and even that hasn't been used for about six years. Remember the lessons from "And He Built A Crooked House".
“And a star to steer her by”
I'm placing a bet right now, that the item that takes out our species will not be on their list.
I'm calling my dark scenario the "Metal Death", but I'll explain later what it entails.
Hungry nanites.
In the story universe, the Sireenian ships are modular, mostly nanites.
Apply enough power with the right signals to perform an action.
But, scramble them somewhat, infect a person with them and then apply power and signal?
An “oops” waiting to happen.
Ohno! Prayers up for his speedy recovery!
Holycow! Beautimus doesn’t do it justice! Thank you for posting!
THIS IS A FRIGHTENING STATISTIC, PROBABLY ONE OF THE MOST WORRYSOME IN RECENT YEARS.
25% of the women in this country are on medication for mental illness.
That’s scary.
It means 75% are running around untreated.
A wife asks her husband, “Could you please go shopping for me and
buy one carton of milk and if they have avocados, get 6.
A short time later the husband comes back with 6 cartons of milk.
The wife asks him, “Why did you buy 6 cartons of milk?”
He replied, “They had avocados.”
If you’re a woman, I’m sure you’re going back to read it again!
Men will get it the first time.
My work here is done.
(Yes, I got send back for six Avogadros)
NoCmpromiz ~ Howd yew dew that?.. It's not like you could slam it in your car door... ;-)
I think I set the LCD edge on it the third time I pried into the machine.
Allow me to draw attention to my ignorance: I looked it up and I still don’t get the Avogadro constant. If it’s not too much trouble, could you explain?
*snorkle chortle*
Avogadro is one of the few people in the Universe who has a number all his own. People have house numbers, postal delivery route numbers, telephone numbers, and PINs. We are awash in numbers. Tsunamis of numbers inundate us on a daily basis. But we don't own them.
You can't copyright or patent a number. You may have favorite numbers, but they aren't yours. Numbers are a common heritage of mankind and all creatures with digits to count upon.
But Avogadro has his own number. Go to any library in the world, and ask about Avogadro's number, and you'll be told it's 6.02 x 1023. It's like knowing what the speed limit is, (186,000 miles per second).
Ahem, back to Avogadro.
Today, Avogadro's number is formally defined to be the number of carbon-12 atoms in 12 grams of unbound carbon-12 in its rest-energy electronic state. That's a fancy way to describe a lump of coal. And not even a very big lump of coal, either. Twelve grams wouldn't keep any of Scrooge's mice bookkeepers warm for long.
But it does give a "macroscopic" feel to the micro-microscopic world of atoms. An Avogadro's Number worth of silver atoms would weigh more, and be worth more, but it would be the same number of atoms as the lump of carbon mentioned above.
It's a really big number, but atoms are rilly, rilly small. In chemical calculations, being able to know exactly how many atoms are combining with exactly how many other atoms is profoundly informative and useful information, and that's what it's all about.
Thank you! Now I must sleep on it....
I didn’t pay anything, but he might be out tomorrow, as well as the framers and electricians and maybe the inspector.
Hopefully a busy day tomorrow.
yes, another tissue moment. Awesome!!!
