Mostly climbing and falling, but also getting stuck. No major damage to Pink Pet or the hhgs.

There is a way to do that with Windows, but my Linux does not support it. I have to go to Google Translate and I get a Hangul keyboard pop-up.

I get my daily emails from

Korean Flashcards (they have many languages)

http://www.korean-flashcards.com/index.php

There are also quizzes and pronunciation guides. Using it in conjunction with talktomeinkorean.net (they have some instructional videos) and watching korean dramas with subtitles actually seems to work some.

When the speech is very rapid, I get the feeling that this is an exercise in futility. I usually use the “trial by fire” or immersion methods of learning. How long have you been studying?

I haven’t studied hard, just casually. Yes, sometimes I wish they would slow down. lol.

I look at my watch, says September seventeen
we’re riding past some place where I’ve never been
And I’m waving through the window as we go

The more you hear another language, the easier it is to pick it up, even if you don’t think you’re doing much but wasting time. Watching the Korean videos is good, and so are the flash cards. Of course, if you had a Korean friend to help with a simple conversation once in a while, it would be like second nature to you in no time.

Which begs the question...is there a particular reason for studying Korean and not, say, Mandarin or Russian or Togalog?

I found myself enjoying online TV shows from Korea and the more I looked into it, the more I liked what I found. Plus Korea’s alphabet is MUCH MUCH simpler than Japanese or Chinese.

You don’t need a webcam for Skype. You just need to sign up for it. Of course, you can’t be seen, but that may be a good thing, some days! LOL!

I had Skype for a long time before I got a computer with a webcam. Or, if it’s important to you, you can get an after-market webcam.

The Korean calligraphy seem to be easier to read that the Chinese/Japanese. Oddly, they have a common core in the Japanese/Chinese languages. Many symbols are the same, mean the same, but have different pronunciations.

Good luck with your endeavor, though! I envy you. It’s so difficult for me to learn anything new these days.

Whenever I see one of those waving-blowing-up-in-the-air things, I think of the MAD TV skit with Stephanie Somebody or Other who’s engaged to one of them.
