I do not doubt that in the least. I think there are non-governmental organizations which have been planning for civil unrest; I also suspect that they have long been collecting names and addresses of those they plan to "visit."

If DOMA was so popular when Congress passed it, then why did Congress make a constitutionally questionable federal law when it could have petitioned the states to ratify an amendment to the Constitution which defined marriage as a one man, one woman union?
On the other hand, by today’s standards, rather the lack thereof, of PC word meanings, Congress would have needed the foresight to defined what a man and woman are in such an amendment.
As a side note to amending the Constitution instead of making federal laws based on powers which the states have never delegated to Congress via the Constituton, please consider the following. Given FDR’s social spending ideas were so popular, I have never figured out why he didn’t encourage Congress to propose amendments to the Constitution which would have granted Congress the specific powers that it needed to establish FDR’s otherwise constitutionally indefensible New Deal spending programs.

It happens all the time (e.g. suicide), but when it happens to a large enough part of the population it reaches what I call “critical mass”. I’m waiting for that critical mass point. I think that if it continues to drag on it will be the full implementation of Obamacare that will do it.
The media and obama, along with the Democrat Party will launch a 24/7 offensive blaming "big greedy insurance", Greedy doctors",Republicans, and President Bush for the monatary increase and the personal inconveinces caused by the implementation of obamacare. obama's deciples, worshipers and followers will believe it. The rest of the Country, they don't care about. They have other plans of a permenant nature for them. Along the lines of,"The Final Solution to the Jewish Problem". Anyone that believes that obama is just going to pack his bags and leave the White House with a song in his heart on January 13, 2017 or thereabout is only deluding themselves. He will have his cadre in all key positions af power and his enforcement and security forces in place. the key word here is "security". Why? Because there is a large number here on this forum along with an even larger segment of the general population who, each time they hear the words "secure or security" orgasm from pleasure. It matters not to them that the implimentation of either of these rob them of their personal freedom and personel responsibilities. They could care less about their freedom, all they wish is "security" and that they be "secure". A prisoner or slave is both "secure" and , in the prisoner's case, "secure". However neither have freedom. To make a long story short, we , as a Nation, descended from "Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death" to "Give me more freebies", and that is why obamacare will be implemented with the full support of the masses and Ameiica will descend into a fourth world dictatorship.
I’ll have to take a look at Reynolds. Did the minority mention this in their dissent? I am going to try to take a closer look at the court’s writing over the weekend, because it seems like Kennedy went way beyond writing a decision and make some pretty extensive statements in judgement of both elected officials and citizens. I am a little surprised to see Kennedy go this direction.

Our two posts hit me hard because they tied in with what I was thinking on my 75 minute commute this morning:
People used to take a lot of time to do everything - Put on clothing, plow a field, prepare a meal, you name it. Modern technology has permeated so much of the world’s population that we now have massive amounts of time to do “nothing” if we so choose. It means as a species we are mostly just pursuing pleasure after spending a total of only 40 hours a week doing a half conscious attempt at performing work.
For most people now, their major daily pursuit is, frankly, personal pleasure, be it driving or riding around, getting drunk, watching TV, playing video games, surfing the web and social media or the host of other things most people do nowadays.
There are social and psychological reasons why such a culture will implode. And it will get a LOT worse before it gets better.
