I partly agree. Ayn Rand saw the inevitable and incorporated the eventual solution into her novel; distance and concealment as the only defense against anarchist thugs.

But, when you’re tied to the city for your livelihood, it’s kind of hard to live too far out. I moved as far out of my large metropolitan area as was feasible, and am semi-rural, but still too close (2 miles from an interstate loop.) Nice idea, but not practical, unless you are independently wealthy already.

I didn’t say it would not require a change in life style.

That is one of the toughest decisions to make in deciding to prepare. Being chained to the comforts of society will be the primary reason most people are unable to survive a societal meltdown.

As I said, the alternative is to have a remote location set up. But I don’t think complete concealment is practical or likely to be successful. When that day comes, we are going to need to be part of a support network.

By the way, I’m not there, yet, either. But I’m working on it.

Start doing some skeet shooting so that you know how to use that hunting shotgun. You may need it for birds and small game.

The chokes narrow the pattern. Essentially, if you are shooting game further away (over app. 20 yards or so), you want a tighter choke, especially for larger game like deer. If you are shooting game that is closer (under 20 yards), you want an open choke as the tight pattern will tear all the meat to shreds and ruin the game.

Your self-defense version probably has a fixed choke. You could use it for hunting in a pinch, but it is not optimal.

Could we ever have imagined that Big Brother propaganda would be so transparent and awkward?

Biden is an absolute joke to himself and his ideology.

Yet they keep him around, out there shoving his foot in his mouth every day.

I think I will put the 28” barrel on and do some target practice with it. I’d like to see what my accuracy with rifled slugs will be.

Skeet is a good suggestion. Not sure of the practicality since I shoot on private property, often by myself.

They have launchers you can operate yourself.

If you use slugs, be sure to put the right choke on. You don’t want a full choke.

Also, make sure either the barrel or the slug is rifled, but not both. I doubt it’s a rifled barrel, but if it is, you have to use a slug made for a rifled barrel.

“Not against 100 thugs coming from more than one direction.”

A target rich environment.

It’s smooth, both barrels are. I have been running rifled slugs through the 18.5” barrel. I wish they were cheaper. I love shooting them.

I am going out to the range after lunch. Think I’ll see what I can do out to 50 yards with slugs in the 18.5” then move to the 28” for comparison.

I like the Savage 350 pump for the most part, but it only has a bead sight. I originally bought it just for home protection, or a zombie invasion. But I guess it’s time to see how useful the 28” barrel will be.

Much as I like my other long guns, you can’t get past the brute power of a shotgun for self defense.

They are very good all-around tools.

Have fun. Be safe.

A slug mold (use the bird shot as the lead for molding) is very inexpensive. A Lee Load-All II can be purchased for under fifty five bucks, a pound of Alliant Unique powder is under $25, and a thousand pistol/shotshell primers is under fifty bucks. Once you have the 12 gauge Lee Load-All, you can buy a 20 gauge innards for around $25 that fits right onto the loader.

The beauty of that system is all the different loads you can put together for your particular uses, and you can reuse the shotshells many times. Take a look at the youtube listing for Lee Load-All reloading. $100 dollars of powder (app. eight pounds) will last a lifetime of reloading shotshells and a few rifle cartridges like 30 carbine.

“Dogs can detect Democrats further out? Where do I get such a dog?”

Kearny NJ; they’re used to detect frontier raiding parties out of Newark.

After watching that Doomsday Preppers show I have to wonder if there are going to be many people bugging out, you’d think there will be several people with the same bug out plan and then you have preppers turning on each other. What about THAT scenario?
