He was relived of duty as soon as he ordered the troops to respond. My guess is that his 2nd in command already had orders to do that. Here is the official link to where Obama nominated his 2nd in command, General Rodriguez as the Next Africa Command Chief.

This story is just NOT true. While it wouldn’t surprise me if this kind of thing did happen, in this case it did NOT.

General Ham hasn’t been relieved of duty yet and was NEVER arrested. He addressed a group of cadets at an ROTC luncheon on Oct. 22nd AS the commander of U.S. Africa Command. http://www.africom.mil/getArticle.asp?art=8397&am
