For .22 shooters in “close in” (close neighbors) areas, I recommend Remington CBee 22LR Hollow Point rounds. This is a 33 grain, very low noise target round that will also dispatch small critters.
It will not work in an auto feed rifle.

You can still get the caps, round bullet or pointy. But now they cost more than normal LR’s :).

I just picked up a CMMG 22 conversion kit for my AR15.

I expect to lose some accuracy and range but expect to save big dollars and get quieter.

During WW II when ammo was not available, my cousins killed deer with a 22 rifle by sooting them in the head.

I’ve had good luck with the Thunderbolt too (Ruger 10/22), but have heard that it is not good to use in pistols. I bought some Wolf match grade one time, and it was the worst ever! It could have been a bad batch, I guess, but have never figured that out. I should have someone test it with a chrono.

For accuracy with a rifle, I think you should stick with something that has a velocity of around 1200 fps or slightly less.

A subsonic 22 has many useful purposes.
As long as it feeds in the old Marlin 60

Actually, a normal 45acp round in a standard size 1911 is, apart from the .22, about the softest thing you can shoot. No snap, just a soft push.

Thunderbolt should work fine in a revolver, but may not work in a semi auto pistol.

It works fine in the marlin 60 semi auto rifle.

What I find interesting about the quest for accurate 22 is that plain jane Remington 40 grain thunder bolt rates so high.

I am also impressed that 60 grain poor ass QC aguilla is stable out to 150 yards.

I suspect that a lot of this is due to the heavier bullet not being susceptible to crosswinds

Amazing that the slow poke heavy ass Aguilla rates up there for accuracy (though it hit low)

Some one should make a jacketed subsonic 55 grain with an air pocket that makes it tumble on impact.

You’re going to like that conversion kit. Probably not as accurate as a dedicated .22 upper, but perfectly good for minute of tin can.

I had some feeding/jamming trouble with the after market mags that came with the kit (from Brownells). The new CMMG Evolution (I think that’s what they’re calling them) mags work much better.

Lately I’ve been shooting the conversion more than .223.

Have fun.

Preppers’ PING!!

Don’t under estimate the lowly .22, if it’s all you have embrace it. Practice, keep it clean and keep plenty of ammo to feed it.

We should build a 50 to 55 grain jacketed 22 with a hollow in it that makes it tumble on impact.

We could sell zillions if we could keep it to the same price point as regular 22

They say to use Federal high velocity with this conversion kit.
It is what it is and I look forward to shooting it because it is cheaper that 223.

I dont expect it to be the answer to everything.
My old marlin 60 seems to cover all the ammo rather well, but it wont feed 60 grain subsonic.

I imagine te AR conversion will be more finicky than the marlin 60

The most popular round in the world is more difficult to manufacture than most realize.
