I have viewed the part of the debate where Perry made the "doesn't make sense" statement. Now let me add some context. He said, almost in the same breath, that we should instead put "boots on the ground".

Perry did not say it couldn't be done, just that there is a more practible way of regulating the border. He also mentioned using unmanned reconnaisance aircraft and other high-tech means of detecting illegal border traffic.

Aw, why'd you have to go and insert logic and facts?

You're mucking up all the the sound-bite-hyperbole emoting!

;-)

Aw, why'd you have to go and insert logic and facts?

You are quick to understand.

But now it's necessary to state the facts with regard to the "Bi-National Health Insurance".

Firstly, it's private insurance, not any government program.

Secondly, it was only a study to determine if it was feasible to allow companies to sell a type of insurance that was allowed for treatment in both Texas and Mexico (thus, it is "Bi-National"). It resulted in no legislation.

Thirdly, this has nothing to do with ObamaCare. This was proposed ten years ago. It's not government-mandated, nor is it government-funded. It's private insurance that is good on both sides of the border. Don't let anti-Perry posters fool you with the scare words "Bi-National". I personally think it's a good idea to get rid of laws that make insurance more expensive and difficult to obtain.

You don’t have to fence the whole border. The wall needs to be backed by mobile forces and holding areas. If 300 people come through in a rush you have to be able to detect them, round them up, contain them, and then return them.

The idea is to make it hard. You don’t have to have the same level of barrier out in the desert where there is no water, towns, or roads as you do in areas where tunnels can leave a building in Mexico and arrive in a building in the U.S.

Humans have been building effective walls for a long time. The Great Wall of China and Hadrians Wall come to mind and there are some pretty effective walls out there now in Israel, Korea, India/Bangladesh.

It can be done. It’s pretty much an open border now. People leave the states for a vacation at home and seemingly return without being inconvenienced at all. That could be changed.

I’ve got a fenced yard. It keeps my dogs in for their safety but I come and go as I please.

Most of the open borders / no fence types in upper incomes live in gated communities...go figure

Yeah, who’s Perry to doubt American ingenuity? Obambi just said we built the Intercontinental Railroad!

We just can't see it because it leaves from one of those 57 states that are still yet undetected...
