Im been stocked, locked, and loaded. Every Democrat parasite nest (city) in the nation can burn to the ground for all I care.
(shrug)
I keep scratching my head over whether the anecdotes really do denote a serious uptick in mob/ethnic/caste violence, or whether it’s just a gathering of statistical norms into a scary presentation. At least 50% of the anecdotes are just popular repeats of the same limited (albeit outrageous) events.
Hard to tell. There’s always a distressing collection of stories from a nation of 300,000,000+ people. OTOH, life under cultural breakdown continues on more-or-less “normal” for most. Reality rarely matches the scary depictions we’ve internalized.
The wife sees it, but has a protect-the-castle, but-dont-go-nuts-buying-stuff-well-never-use attitude.
My husband says he can eventually use everything we are storing, either for camping, hunting,on his sailboat or just to have as a spare when something breaks at that most inopportune time. His 72-hour-bag is his Get Home Safe bag, because 3 days a week he works 45 miles from home and once a month, he travels in the other direction about 30 miles to work. We add my bag when we go away for a weekend or to do the monthly shopping in the city.
All it takes is one weather emergency, one accident resulting in extended job absence or unemployment and suddenly _everything_ has a use and is a comfort.
Having had these past 3 years to prepare has been a blessing. I have rotated through the shorter-term shelf life items 2-3x, all because of incidents that were not SHTF, but put us in a financial squeeze. I add to the long term items every chance I get. Then I look at it and realize it should be much more.
The entire process can be overwhelming, at times.
Your family will eventually be grateful.
I think it is very location dependent.
There is, however, no doubt that everyone is sensing the increased tension and that generates anxiety. No one under 35 remembers the last time and to tell you the truth, it wasn’t this bad back then, nor was it so wide spread, geographically. Also, this time, the incidents are being perpetrated within the affluent areas where people presume they are protected.
I am seeing usually very sensible, establishment men turning quite grim-faced and quietly networking. This is in an area 250 miles from the nearest _large_ city, but still a tank of gas away from small, usually calm, places that have had racial incidents this year. The plans I hear about were also being discussed in the 1970s, but back then, the folks who are now concerned were not. That could be a function of their ages, but I think it is because we are much more concerned today than we really were, back then.
I’d say life continues as *normal* for _many_, but not for most. Just the number of people unemployed/underemployed/facing foreclosure or bankruptcy is way beyond anything in my lifetime and I was born in 1943. We moved out here in 1975, we have been fortunate, so far, but _something_ is certainly happening, now, in America.
I don’t know how old you are, but how long have you been interested in being able to feed folks for $1.00/plate? That is an indicator, right there, IMO.
“One Second After” by William Forstchen, too.

There's a phrase for that, it's called "due diligence".
I'm about 30% of where I need to be in my preparations to feel comfortable. Next month I'll be getting my Berkey filter with spare "Black Berkey" elements. :)
I'm also looking into some interesting "group buys" to keep costs down.
Also, food prices are not going to go down. Emergency food supplies can always be consumed in the future.
