I put that amazing zoom close up of Ringo in Stagecoach on my facebook page - daring my liberal friends to say anything. So far no one has the courage to take me on (or they are all eating their dinner!)
I got a tip for 'em; stay out of my neighborhood. Long live The Duke.
Seems to me that for the most part, not all, but for the most part, the younger generation is more feminine than the prior generation. They simply don’t understand masculinity enough to appreciate John Wayne.
Yes, of course, that is true. But I had one older woman who insisted that because her husband was a “real” cowboy, John Wayne was nothing but a lousy actor who deserved no respect from the American people. She said he was afraid of horses (a ridiculous assumption!) and appeared to have no idea of his body of work or his support of our Vets. A very strange, depressing day but made better by you guys, lol!
Happily, I accused all of those haters that their favorite Western must be “Brokeback Mountain.” That didn’t go down well, either!
“Happily, I accused all of those haters that their favorite Western must be Brokeback Mountain.”
LOL! Perfect.
“...he was the bravest man of allllll....”
The religious undertones are very poignant.
I agree. Also, is where you live not far from the Alabama Hills - where they filmed many Westerns.
That settles it. Liberty Valence next.
And don’t forget that incredible one, The Quiet Man, with the incredible Maureen O’hara. Hilarious, touching, dramatic and thought provoking through and through.
Speaking of Rio Bravo have you noticed how often the Duke’s movies had pop singers as semi-major characters: Ricky Nelson, Fabian, Glen Campbell? Roles later frequently played by one of his sons.
“grew 4* read3yn”
Not quite sure what your post even means.
“Seems to me that for the most part, not all, but for the most part, the younger generation is more feminine than the prior generation. They simply dont understand masculinity enough to appreciate John Wayne.”
Limp wristed girly men the bunch of them. Real men scare them. We’re becoming a nation of nancy boys. John Wayne craps bigger than they are.
I believe the pop stars were the studio’s idea - not Wayne’s or his directors. In the case of Ricky Nelson, it did produce a really pretty little folk song and the theme from True Grit isn’t bad either.
