Is that a Dodge K Cow?
Your comment:
“As long as you are an Alaskan in attitude and respect the country Alaskans welcome you.”
Your sentence expresses it perfectly. Alaska is not a state, it’s an attitude, unlike anything the other states consider or comprehend or offer. And I agree with that, but, it’s really hard to rationally express it. It’s an internal personal phenomenon. It doesn’t make sense to outsiders, but to Alaskans, that doesn’t matter. I really ‘get’ it. And as an outsider, if you don’t get it, you never will. I hope I made sense.
You are crystal clear to me.
I have a friend, (a lifelong Alaskan born and bred), who says that being an Alaskan requires a certain attitude, and that some folks who were born and raised here do NOT have it, while many folks outside who have never been here DO have it.
But, it’s kind of like that kid who was being punished by being made to shovel horse sh#t out of the barn. He was doing it smiling the entire time, and when they asked him why he was smiling he said “well there just HAS to be a pony under all of this horse sh#t somewhere!”
“They” almost ALWAYS come in the summer, and by Christmas 99% of them are gone forever.
The reality of living here cannot be explained, it has to be lived.
Yep, we’re a wee bit nuts.
Oh well.
“WE don’t give a d@mn how they do it OUTSIDE!”
