They (Brit and Juan) both are on the panel sometimes. That is when I’ve seen him take Juan to task. He is just brutal.
Brit has great pipes. But he’s started slurring. Sounding as if he has marbles in his gob, when he’s into his second half hour.
Juan really is pretty moderate. His rant on assimilation during the panel a few days ago was sounding downright Conservative. I think that’s what got NPRs attention, making his Airline comment the final straw.
Regardless, I can’t watch the guy for long. Beside the fact he has a face for radio, he just isn’t as good as say, a Laura Ingram.
I was watching Morning Joe on MSNBC one morning a few days or week ago. For the most part, the participants in that show are merely an echo chamber. Joe only rarely calls panelists to task; he's far more likely to excoriate his former fellow Republicans. One reporter came on to share her perspective on how the election is shaping up, and she merely spewed left-wing propaganda non-stop. She ridiculed one R candidate for questioning the validity of the science behind the anthropogenic global warming carbon dioxide catastrophe theory. Her facial expressions clearly said that she thought anyone who hasn't swallowed the IPCC line is a kook, and no one questioned her. Echo chamber of morons who have convinced themselves that they live in a fantasy world where reality doesn't exist.
I'm wondering if Juan was fired from NPR because he is such a poor representative of the progressive viewpoint. He's been won over to some conservative positions, but I've never seen him score a point for the liberal cause in a debate on FNC. That might be the real concern at NPR, but it's one thing to score liberal debate points when you're surrounded by fellow liberals. I don't know of any liberal would could hold Juan's slot on FNC and look reasonable and intelligent more often than not.
I would agree he is a very poor spokesman for the liberal/progressive movement. Whether that is a result of him being won over to, or simply having enough common sense to hold a few Conservative views, I cannot say. As I mentioned earlier, he spoke with more than a little zeal when commenting on "assimilation" issues the other day. Certainly more zeal than when he's phoning in the latest Lib/Prog talking points. As you point out, NPR might like those that can score points, but I'd ask, score points with what? There just isn't much ammo left in their clip.
"I don't know of any liberal would could hold Juan's slot on FNC and look reasonable and intelligent more often than not."
Mara Liasson, or Kirsten Powers, IMHO, could mop the floor with Juan on his best day.
Mara may come across on FNC with more progressive cred than Juan, but I know she's been asked by NPR not quit appearing on FNC, and after that leaked out a while ago, she pared back on her appearances. Mara comes across with a better facade of authority, but I think her relative success in the cred department is she's a woman, and the FNC guys don't go for her throat when it's exposed like they do when Juan exposes his. She may be a tad more selective in the progressive positions she stakes out, not being as extreme as Juan.
As to Kirsten, she's a liberal loon, but she's smart enough to cave in on some matters and take her fellow libs to task. She won't even bother to try and defend some indefensible positions. And, she's cute, which I'm sure tempers some from taking her to task too hard.
'Twill be interesting to see if Mara drops out of the FNC lineup or hardens her progressive stance. And, whether Juan will give the progressive ideology a hard look and chose to mature in his thinking.
Tammy Bruce went through the same transformation when she thought for herself once.
Positions as extreme as Juan's, or Mara is not as extreme? I'm guessing Mara is probably more leftist than Juan. She's just 4 times smarter. I'd also attribute half those smarts from sitting next to Charles Krauthammer day after day.

Well, her cuteness didn't save her from Megyn Kelly's wrath over the DOJ/NBPP fiasco. Which is a good example of Kirsten's style. It's clear it's HER opinion being conveyed. Not the Official Authorized version. I got to give credit for that.
"That may well be because anyone toeing the progressive line outside the progressive echo chamber is going to be ineffective."
Does a ranting insane street person sound more reasonable when he's in the asylum ranting with 5 more? Not to me.
