Now I've gone back to a full-time job and I'm absolutely miserable. .... This job - dealing with subject matter that I absolutely hate - pays only $11.58 per hour.
We told you that a BA degree in 2nd Century Assyrian Culture was useless, and you'd eventually hate it anyway. But noooooooo, you wouldn't listen, would you smartypants.
At my last full - time job, I made over double that.
uh-huh. And now that job is being done by an illegal from Guatemala for $15.00 and hour who didn't waste his time getting a BA degree in 2nd Century Assyrian Culture.
IBTP?
No.
The guy is around 50 and hasn't had a 'long term job' (more than 2-3 years) in his fricken life. Annnnd to boot, he dropped out of College only 3 or 4 credit hours short of getting a Bachelors Degree in Business Management (when that was the hot thing). He's always looking for that 'One Big Score'. And he's always only $10K short of making millions with some 'idea'. (idiot)
So now he is back at Mommy's - he came back almost two years ago from Las Vegas for a "two week visit" and hasn't left. IMO he's waiting for her to pass away and grab some loot (BIG loser).
Oh well, guess every family has one of those. (I just avoid him, even his emails)
This is becoming an increasingly popular investment plan. Another is to borrow massive quantities from Mom, promising to pay her back, but hoping she will die soon before the bill comes due. Hey it beats taking out a mortgage.
Actually, I did that as well. But not because I was looking for the big score.
I was already working for a corporation in lower-mid management and getting my degree at night. My final semester included a course that was offered days only with no indication it would ever be offered at night. I went to management asking whether they'd allow me to take the course during the day. They said no, because they felt a degree wasn't necessary to advance in the corporation.
They were right. I later became a plant manager, then a corporate director.
My university education helped, but the sheepskin was overkill...
I found one DUmmie who works. Unfortunately it’s my massage therapist. He’s really, really, good, otherwise I’d find another one.
OT - Do you have a blog for your couponing?
Yes it beats tricking her into a mortgage. But what additionally gets to me about him is that when his dad died, he and his brother both got $40,000 (or $42K). The DOPE immediately blew it all at once on a new Cadillac.
And then ..... within a couple weeks -- he TOTALED THE CAR! And he did NOT have any Car Insurance (maybe liability?). So there it all went, $40K+, down the freaking drain.
Yes, in some industries a Sheepskin isn't a 'Career Maker'.
But a degree in 'something' is almost becoming mandatory now.
Even though, ironically, HS graduates are now pretty much functional illiterates.
Then once you've found someone who will pay your bills, you can go and get paid for doing almost no work at all!
This was back in the 70’s. It was a non-union Fortune 1000 company. I was with them 23 years, another 5 years just prior to that in the same industry (printing).
A lot different than today...
These people are unbelievable!
We used to call them "weekends"...
OMG, TJ, that is just about the most ignorant statement I've read in a long time! Yeah, those ancient societies had it made!
TJ = PJ. Sorry about that. More coffee!
PJ, What with all this coupon talk?
What you in South Florida, surrounded by Jewish grandmothers or sump’n?
LOL!!!!
Reminds me of that scene from "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation":
Clark: "How can they have nothing for their children?"
Ellen: "Well, he's been out of work for close to seven years."
Clark: "In seven years, he couldn't find a job?"
Ellen: "Cathrine says, he's been holding out for a management position."
That, or they felt grieved by management (unnecessarily), and are still pouting after all these years, expecting something that will never happen.
Either way, it’s a self-defeating way to go through life. Life’s pleasures come from what you make of it; not from what you believe others owe you.
