Very well said.
The literary equivalent of sqee-geeing your windshield and demanding a dollar. [M]

Actually, it is a very apt description, imo, of Glen Beck.
Thank you for reading, reaganaut. I appreciate it. I’m glad you liked it.
He doesn't claim to be -- whom do you claim he is plagiarizing?
What scares me about this “pied piper” thing Beck has going is where does it stop? How soon before he is trying to influence people’s lives/thoughts outside of politics? How many are still going to follow him if he starts throwing in other ideas?
Cults of personality can be very dangerous.
I think we should go to his ward and observe how many of the members simply adore him in a “Jim Jones” way.
I have noticed quite a few on FR that are of the same mentality. I didn’t think that would happen here. I also hope that Jim Robinson has a clear understanding of Beck’s connection to Romney.
It will be interesting to hear the Levin slaughter this afternoon.

So have I, did you see the horrible personal attack on me on the other thread b/c I don’t adore Beck?
We had a blast.
Was Levin even there?
There is more to changing minds than throwing parties.
If Beck was truly the dangerous guru you profess to fear, why does he spend so much of his show promoting mainstream books, written by people with impressive educations, if you're impressed by that sort of thing--?
Levin just looks jealous, here. This is kinda beneath him.
gawsh, what awful typos... changed a lot of minds...not a hanging! alone and isolated, not along.
written by people with impressive educations, if you’re impressed by that sort of thing—?

I’m not impressed by that sort of thing, probably because I have a so called ‘impressive education’.
The most efficient guru’s use enough truth to make their lies seem probable. Likewise, using enough mainstream material and ideas reinforces the ‘normalcy’ and thus makes more outrageous statements seem reasonable.
Perhaps I see it this way because I am looking at it from an Anthropological/Sociological standpoint.
Have you done much reading in cult studies and mind control?
People either get Beck or they don't. I've learned more from his show than any other I've ever watched. I've gone out and read books he's touted, and they are solid, traditional books about the Free Market, Founding Fathers and the dangerous economic times we face.
He got at least one radical Marxist driven out of the WH. He was the inspiration behind the 912 march, which was one of the best experiences of my life. He breaks stories no one else will break, like ACORN. His research is mostly from David Horowitz's Discover the Network, I recognized this when his show first started, and you can access that directly.
He is a ridiculous figure, whereas Levin and Bennet are figures of dignity.
This is Beck's real advantage--he does not have dignity to lose. The Alinsky mode of destruction-by-ridicule will not work. Other people are afraid of losing face, like Levin. Levin doesn't understand that this can be a serious weakness, as we see with the RINOs who are embarrassed to associate with conservatives. They're so afraid Jon Stewart will mock them.
Well, when Glenn starts trying to get his audience to send him money, let me know. That’s the usual dead giveaway.

actually, that is one of the LAST things that happens. You have to get people ‘hooked’ first, make sure they will follow you.
For example, what if Beck were to start to introduce theology into his political comments. Maybe quote a Bible verse here or there, would his followers (most of whom believe in God) bother to look it up for themselves? Or would they just trust him. What if it then took on heretical ideas and doctrines, or he started spouting neo-nazi ideas - not overtly at first but starting with replacement theology [which Beck’s church has taught, btw] .
The trick about charismatic guru’s and cult leaders is they know just how to ‘work’ their audience. And I see that a lot in Beck.
I don’t find Glenn the least bit charismatic. His “lessons” are riveting. He does have a preaching style. And he’s quoted scripture occasionally, although he prefers to quote founding fathers. All this attention may well ruin him, it ruins a lot of people. But, in the meantime, I’ve seen him do a lot of good. Getting Americans together for 912 would be a pinnacle for most people.
Ping!
