GOP Presidential Candidates for 2012

Here is what I believe to be an accurate summary of the discussion of my posting of 11/18/09. Correct me if I am wrong on anything and/or elaborate if you wish. (Items listed in no particular order). 1. No 2008 GOP presidential candidate was satisfactory (one exception was favorable to Huckabee). None of these people woulld be acceptable as 2012 presidential candidates. 2. The GOP should conduct closed primaries - only registered Republicans could vote in the primaries. 3. No voter registrations on election days. 4. As many people who desire to be a candidate in GOP primaries should be allowed into the fray. 5. There should be an intensive effort to register conservative Republicans and Libertarians. 6. Sarah Palin seems very popular among those who responded to my posting. 6. A number of folks in our discussion indicated a belief that the Liberals, or Obama, or our political "enemies" selected the GOP presidential candidates for 2008 and might do so again. (I asked for some evidence for this belief but have not yet received any). 7. All people in our discussion want candidates with solid conservattive beliefs and values. 8. I would like to ask each of you to post a list of 3 or 4 people you would consider acceptable Conservative presidential candidates for 2012.

I can't think of any one who has shown that they have TRUE conservative values across the board. Sarah Palin has shown that she is a true conservative but I'm not sure if the country would vote her in. I would love to see it, but I do think that we are going to have to go with a candidate that has the most conservative values and not necessarily all conservative values. I'm really not sure if there is a candidate that would have complete conservative values that would be running in 2012. If I had to choose right now:

What is this obsession that some FReepers have with calling out "newbies"? Seems to me that's a good way to scare off new people who aren't expecting their fellow conservatives to act like jerks towards them for no reason, which retards the growth and effectiveness of FR.

If I were JimRob, I'd take people like you out behind the shed and give you a tannin' everytime you plugged a newbie.

I believe state party organizations control #2; state election laws control #3. Either way, you can't eliminate the problem of predatory cross-over voting.

I'll state my other answer in this manner: I don't wanna see anybody named Romney, Guliani, or Gingrich -- or those who would praise these three as party pillars. Charlie Crist would likewise come to mind.

I'm very interested in Mike Pence; find Duncan Hunter intriguing and think Pawlenty deserves a hard look. DeMint would be a hard sell to independents, but that's not to say he isn't a rock-ribbed conservative.

Sarah Palin is doing more good for her country right where she is. Staying relevant is the key. I believe, in time, she will be the new face of the Eagle Forum. She needs more time.

I will add this: it won't matter who we think oughta be on the ballot in 2012 UNLESS the 2010 elections make it obvious that conservatism will win: if this country is truly ticked off, we'll know it one year from now when we count up the number of Joe-the-plumbers and Doug Hoffmans have actually been elected. All it will take to empower the Romney crowd (and the Rats) is a lukewarm reaction to the events here in 2009.
