"In aggregate, the map of the territory Republican won was mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens of the country....

Herein lies the answer to how to take back our country.

This isn’t a Republican versus Democrat issue. The Republicans have proved thoroughly corrupt. They made the first great leap to socialism and the Democrats finished the job.

Are you seeing the original or the last version in your mind when reading that?

We are NOT dead. But I (age 41) will never see anything resembling “conservatism” from the federal government again in my lifetime. Of that, I’m pretty sure. I pray someone of my children’s generation will grow up strong enough to turn the tide.

Really liked the finale, too.

Well, at least Texas has options. Have a look at my thread today and plan on moving here...

Not without a fight.

Man you are bringing up a bunch of lines I forgot from the 5 or 8 readings of the book and the dozen viewings of the original movie (back in the ‘80’s /’90’s).

Jorgen Proknow(?) was Duke Leto embodied. Hurt sucked and ruined that version of the movie for me. Only the ORIGINAL Blade Runner had the same type initial and lasting impact on me. But I digress.

See I thought you would refer to the Hurt movie and I could have gone back to remembrances. Now you did it and I am going to have to watch both this weekend.

Thanks. Have a great weekend.

I guess that’s the population Mr Obama referred to during the campaign:

“…small towns in Pennsylvania, and like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, … they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.

Children of Dune (DVDs) and Sandworms of Dune (last book) are great.

JSteff, you certainly got me thinking about the books and movies.
Great opportunity to check them out again. Thanks.

It’s so easy to civilize by teaching cowardice.
You water down the standards which would lead to bravery.
You restrain the will. You regulate the appetites.
You fence in the horizons.
You make a law for every movement.
You deny the existence of chaos.
You teach even the children to breathe slowly.
You tame."

This is my country. I fought for it once and I'll fight for it again. It's not dead as long as I and people like me still draw breath. I refuse to let it die. So lay off this"America is dead" sh8t will ya. Stand and fight or lay down with the commies. Just quit with the negative vibes.

Now you got me thinking about them too. I read ALL the books several times. My daughter was in 5th grade when I introduced her (very bright kid-Navy officer now) anyway she got in trouble from a teacher for reading them on recess.

That demanded a talk with the teacher and so I asked her what was better than my kid reading the Dune books? What would she have her do instead? She was embarrassed and could not answer... and my daughter never had another problem.

She also read the Hobbit trilogy that year.. with no problems from that teacher ever again. Both those series were stunning and I am glad she got into those before 6th grade!

Although I barely recall dialog like you do, you have brought up flashbacks. Thanks! Nice refreshing of great memories. Took my mind off of the bloatuluos bill.
Have a great week!!

Okay you got me recalling and went in a trunk in the family room and found the original Hobbit. It is pretty worn but great reflections of the time.

Okay, here is an off beat couple of VCR’s that were in the trunk too... (Rumble Fish — Stewart Copeland and Francis Coppola. Mickey Rourke, Dennis Hopper, Matt Dillon, Diana Lane~~~... now I starting to feel drawn to find that VCR too.

Been a nice break but-- damn this, I am not going back to the trunk again tonight...really...

I got burned by this manipulated email also. The facts from Snopes:

The email contains “facts” which Snopes claims actually are from the 2000 election! Some inventive emailer simply changed the dates and names to reflect the current election.

From Snopes:
“The item cited above began circulating on the Internet since shortly after the 2000 U.S. presidential election, reappeared briefly after the 2004 presidential election, and saw a strong resurgence (in a modified form which replaced the names “Bush” and “Gore” with “McCain and “Obama”) after the 2008 presidential election.”

ALSO:
“The population of the counties and square miles of area won by each Bush and Gore appear to be accurate. They are consistent with the election-result published by USA Today on 20 November 2000.

The number of states won by each candidate is inaccurate. The numbers given (29 and 19) imply that the piece was written before the results of the Florida and New Mexico vote counts were determined. The final tallies were 30 states for Bush and 20 for Gore.”
