The results of my study were that I have a great deal more sympathy for the ideas which the South was promoting, and the true causes of the war. I believe no individual in American history has had a longer, stronger free ride than Lincoln.

That is exactly my story too ... once I researched it with an open mind, I found that Lincoln was not the hero that I was taught and that the "Civil War" war was actually and truly "the War of Northern aggression"

Skipjack? Same hull?

Man, unless that is a new one, it must be ancient. I remember building a model of it about the same time I built one of the Nautilus, iirc, before the Thresher went down.

IIRC, the Skipjack class subs were built between the Nautilus" and the "Thresher/Permit" class so that must be in the mid 1950's to early 1960's.

You're points are well taken too, if you want a couple of books that will chill you and think it can happen here, try reading "The Iron Heel" (1908) by Jack London where the U.S. goes socialist/communist as the result of an economic depression in the early 1930's. The other is by Upton Sinclair, "It Can't Happen Here." (1934/1935)

How can there be a civil war when the yankees have no military?

If the red states pulled out of the union the fed could not really do a damn thing about it.

Is that Sinclair Lewis instead of Upton Sinclair?

What if your “countrymen” decided that despite your enlightened position, they would still like you to attend a “reeducation” session, or perhaps to surrender your Constitutional rights, (not picky, name one), or decided that you just were not paying enough of your income or property to help those less fortunate?

And before you get your whatevers in a bunch, you better understand “WPS”, (worst possible situational thinking). It's not what you want to happen or what you think might happen, it's a thought process towards self-preservation.

Would you still not stand up?

If your answer is “no”, you need to relocate to a more “progressive” forum.

You’re right, it was Sinclair Lewis, my bad.
