In 1960, thirty thousand college students were enrolled in Russian Language courses across the United States. The University of Hawaii was one of the first to offer the instruction. The basic Russian class was taught that year by one of the two Russian Language instructors on staff, Ella Wiswell or Isabelle Tripianky. The teachers were similar in both background and teaching style. Wiswell was a Russian emigre and talented linguist who for a while had been the only University of Hawaii Russian Language faculty member. Tripianky was also a Russian emigre, who like Wiswell had studied at the Sorbonne in Paris. The class was held in old Hawaii Hall, and numbered about two dozen students in all, many filled with the dewy eyed idealism of American Cold Warriors who hoped to work as intelligence analysts for the CIA. christianfaithandreason.com
Other students enrolled in the Language course for a variety of reasons, including their support of the Soviet Union. While just a matter of coincidence, it was at about this time that a young man, who had previously studies Russian in just such a course while serving in the US Marines, who later served at a “listening post” in Japan where he intercepted Soviet Military transmissions and intrepreted them for the US Government, was returning from the Soviet Union where he had gone to live after renouncing his American citizenship. That young man would become famous in a few short years, 1963 Dallas, Texas, to be exact. Lee Harvey Oswald assassinated President John F Kennedy in Dallas in November 1963.
Obama’s acquaintences in Hawaii rationalize his study of Russian in this manner, “Barack Obama Senior’s interest in the class seemed to make far more sense. As a future member of the Kenyan government’s technocratic elite, the ability to speak both English and Russian, the languages of the two countries vying for influence and control over his native land would certainly give him a leg up in the competition among returning scholars for plum jobs back home.”
This rationale would prove to only partially correct. English was a common language in Kenya but Russian would serve Obama’s intended course of political activity to a higher degree. Obama was a Pro-Soviet Marxist.

The scandal I am referring to is Ann becoming pregnant by a black man. Even in laid back Hawaii that would be a scandal and a reflection on her parents both who were starting new jobs. Easier to send her away before she begins to show and then perpetuate the story that she married but the marriage didn’t work out so poor Ann was left to raise a child on her own. Of course there would be no scandal if she had not become pregnant.
Aha, so maybe it wasn’t going well between Ann and Sr. Maybe he agree to let her give the baby up. So she goes to Canada to hide the disgrace, has the baby. She changes her mind, knows she can’t go home and shows up in Seattle with the baby. Her furious grandparents and maybe also a furious Jr. influenced her decision to stay in Seattle and go to school. But what about the birth announcement in the paper then?
Seems to me I read, maybe on one of the threads about Ayers likely being a ghost write - that 0bama went to Bali to “write” but didn’t get much writing done there. I wonder what he was doing there? Brushing up on his Bahasa? Connecting up with Muslim roots? Of course, on Bali they’re mostly a type of Hindu. I wonder if he really stayed in Bali the whole time? It was quite a long time. Maybe Bali was just a port of call. Sure would be interesting to know what he did during that time, and if he traveled anywhere besides Bali.
Does anyone know where he stayed in Bali? That wasn’t all that long ago and if he was there for quite a while, there must be some who knew him(if he was really there)
ridiculous, unbelievable story. Who wastes that much time and effort on someone that hasn’t even written a book before. There was a reason that book needed to be written.
When she phones mom and dad she changed her mind and kept the baby Grandma swings into action and registers the birth which generates the birth announcement in both local papers.(Grandma would know of a safe address to use through her job with the mortgage dept) This is done to “preserve and protect her daughter’s honor” and to give a legitimacy to the situation. When Ann arrives back in HI then her parents can say, “Isn’t it a shame Ann’s marriage didn’t work out and she is left to raise a baby on her own.” Since Ann went aganst their plans the incident has to be covered some way, hence the registering of the birth which led to the birth announcement.
Because she was married to a British citizen, it would be very easy for her to go to any Canadian hospital at that time. There are towns like White rock that are very close to the border.
I realize that and Vancouver area at that time didn’t suffer from the racial tensions that were prevalent in Seattle area. Also travel across the border was extremely easy at the time I experienced it myself. The border guard would ask for a driver’s license of the driver and ignore any passengers. There was also a home for unwed mothers in Vancouver very near Vancouver General Hospital which was run by the Salvation Army. Contact between mothers and babies was discouraged in these homes which could explain why Ann didn’t know how to change diapers.
Ok jumping back in here, probably on the wrong post but when Susan Blake was contacted, did anyone think to ask her the name of the woman Ann was staying with? That woman has been mentioned a few times and no one has mentioned her name. I am curious!
It just occurred to me looking at that photo that if I didn’t know it was impossible, I’d think that was 0 hugging Madelyn. Look at even the long bony fingers and the exactly same profile. Or is it impossible? Could it have been staged to look like the grandparents just to enhance the story of their Kansas-rooted romance? I know it’s a crazy thought but in this age of technology anything is possible in photography and when you have as much campaign money available to use on whatever you want. The woman looks a bit like old Madelyn but a look-alike wouldn’t be impossible to find.

I have often said after seeing pictures of Jr and Stanley Armour Dunham that Jr is more white than he cares to admit. Remember that Madelyn’s parents referred to Stanley Armour Dunham as a “wop” with his dark coloring.
Just to add to the confusion and the record (evil snicker )
Barack Obama called his grandmother “Toot,” which is short for tutu, the local Hawaiian word for grandmother. “Toot” had lived in Hawaii for almost half a century, after coming here in 1959.

I thnk the author wrote according to the press release by Jr and Maya in which they said that the Dunhams moved to HI in 1959 but we know they didn’t move to HI until 1960. Jr doesn’t pay much attention to dates and Maya was following her big brother’s lead saying the Dunhams moved to HI in 1959. That same day was when Jr told the audience in N.C. that his grandmother had died saying : “....she was born in 1922 which means she lived through the Great Depression, she lived through two world wars...” We know that WWI ended Nov.11,1918 and Madelyn Dunham was born Oct.26,1922 four full years after WWI ended. Lord only knows how Jr managed to get a B- in history!
The B- must have been on one helluva curve.

After Obama, dmped “Toot’s” ashes into the ocean — mostly on the rocks — in violation of federal law — a scene straight out of “The Great Lebowski” — Obam turned and walked back to a group of people standing near the access road.
Michelle came running toward Obama from the top of the frame and jumped up on him, wrapping her arms around his neck and her legs around his waist.
