no joke, I think the NYT will be going to paulson for a buy in of stocks from the bailout package.

WHEN the gray lady closes her doors, I wonder what kind of party we will have.

It is not a joke and I am concerned this will happen soon, esp if Obama wins.

I worked in newspapers for 25+ years and was driven out because there is no place for either objective reporting or conservative/patriotic thinking.

I too have been a newspaper reporter for most of the past 15 years.

At one paper, I was told repeatedly on the newsroom floor by both editors and reporters that I was racist for not accepting quotas.

At the time, we were told we had to get a certain percentage of our quotes from a variety of people.

15% from Hispanics.

10% from Chinese, Orientals.

20% from blacks, etc. (How can I get quotes from a Chinese person in a council meeting when none attend)

I was told (in 1996) I was racist because I said some good words about a flat tax, which Steve Forbes was advocating at the time. (The flat tax means a cut in welfare, long-time staffers claimed)

This same paper has terminated any and every person who was vocal about their right-leaning point of view, and the other 'conservatives' are too scared to open their mouth.

If the average person could see how news was generated (just like sausage), they would be appalled.

The only good news is that circulation at this previously 85,000 daily newspaper has now dropped to around 50,000 and they have defaulted in their payments for new equipment. (This paper slams McCain on "loss of American jobs" yet their new $25 million press/printer facility is ALL GERMAN made and manufactured.

The American media is so corrupt they make ACORN and Wall Street look downright honest.

My heart bleeds for the people who sing the praises and shill for politicians who send jobs overseas so that folks in our area who spent 30 years working somewhere can wake up at 50 and try to figure out how to start a new career.

>>>>>THE LITTLE PEOPLE DON’T LIKE YOUR SLANTED NEWS!

I don’t mind slanted news so long as it’s acknowledged.

But the self-satisified pretense to “journalistic objectivity” is more than a little disgusting. Not to mention the self-anointed (and deluded) role as “gatekeepers”.

Can't happen soon enough. In the future, all news will be internet based, and aggregators will be in charge of presenting it. Reporters will be free agents, stringers, who sell their stories one at a time. Michael Yon and great reporters will make decent money. The left wing biased reporters won't be in demand, and won't get paid. New reporters, good, solid ones who report actual news, will replace them.

Unless Obama wins, because then state propaganda will replace MSM propaganda.

It’s appalling isn’t it. I remember my first day in Journalism 101 class in 1967. The craft I began learning that day is just completely gone now. It’s like having lived from one epoch to another in the space of a few decades. You can barely find anyone who acknowledges that the craft I studied and practiced ever existed at all. Even I have moments when I figure I just dreamed the whole thing.
