I was torn for several months on whether to purchase the Kindle or not. I have had the Sony and another ebook reader or two. I didn’t keep any of the pre-kindle versions very long.
Finally broke down a few weeks ago and got the Kindle. The more I use it, the more I really love it.
Pros
> Great display/crisp/will not tire your eyes
> Instant book downloads
> ebooks are cheaper
> Subscriptions to blogs and regular news updates
> all done wirelessly
> tight integration with Amazon (may be a turn off for some)
Cons
> Ergonomics are horrible
> too easy to press next/previous page buttons
> a little slow in navigation
> battery life not great (if you leave wireless on)
> limited selection, especially magazines, and newspapers
To me, it is basically the ipod/itunes of ebook readers. If they had just gotten the ergonomics as good as the ipod, it would be a killer. Hoping they fix a lot in version 2.
Regardless of the issues, once you start using the Kindle, you will take it everywhere with you.
If you like to read, I would suggest purchasing one.
Good luck. The way newspaper sales have plunged, they need all the help they can get.
Even without my idea on how they can bypass their eInk limitations to provide color graphics and videos, they should send me a FREE Kindle just for all the good publicity I’ve generated for them.
I shoulda made better friends with him, and INVESTED...
I’m still waiting for that happy e-mail from Jeff.
