"I've known several people who've been successful with these types of firms, even at a $20-$25 price point. It is pretty difficult to get noticed by the major publishers, so, while these do end up with higher rates, they get people's works attention they may not receive from other venues.

The best thing is to support writers you like while they are new, and if they gain enough attention, may be picked up by one of the major publishers."

Thanks. I finally resorted to POD after having my work under consideration for 18 months by a major publisher, who finally rejected it. Life is too short, so I decided to just get published any which way I can. I did. Yay me.

I see PODs being a major threat to traditional publishing house. It is Publishing 2.0 (OK, maybe 1.5, blogging is 2.0 but it is tough to make any money at that..)

A few things I would suggest.

First, join Epinions.com and suggest adding your book to be able to be reviewed. Solicit some Freepers to add reviews as this will increase exposure.

Create several blog accounts and include Amazon partner links as well as reviews to your books.

Solicit any bloggers you know to write a review, if they are popular bloggers, tempt them with a free book or some other perk..

Be sure to add info to your profile page about this.

All of these are simple viral tactics that also will impact Google rankings.
Viral exposure can really be a make it or break it way of getting sales. If you have any more questions, drop me a freepmail.
Good luck..

Oh, so you're a jerk who's been published multiple times.

Have I got that about right?

Nature is saying something, but who knows what.

Haven't you heard? It's global warming.

Psst. Hey buddy, (opening trench coat) wanna buy some carbon credits? For you I'll sell 'em real cheap.

We've had snow too for the past couple of days. Picked up another 4 or 5 inches. Our hares are still holding onto their white parkas. I have a couple that come up to the windows every night to feed on the bird seed that's on the ground. Yes, nature is saying something and I'm praying it's the "s" word. ;)

Even if I were interested in the subject -- I wouldn't buy your book if it were free.

Why?

Congratulations! If you don't know it yet, you'll have to do your own marketing and promo, because your publisher won't. Stay at it!

Sticks and stones, etc.

Did you have help from a six year old writing that post? C'mon, tell the truth.

Got an other inch last night. That makes possibly 18 all winter. It's in the running for the driest winter I have seen here. Also it was respectably cold and still is, but not much below -40 at any time. Maybe this late spring will chase some of the sunbirds out.
