CAIR Florida Welcomes Southwest Airlines Pilot Atif Fareed (back)
December 28, 2006
Courtesy of Militant Islam Monitor.org:
MIM: The Council on American Islamic Relations has upped the'flying Imams' ante by bringing a Southwest Airlines pilot aboard. Fareed Atif is the the new chairman of Florida CAIR, and moved to Florida from Arizona. A state which is also home to 5 of the litigious Imams and light schools which hosted students like 9/11 hijacker Hani Hanjour and several Jihadist wannabes. The attraction of Arizona for radical Islamists goes back decades. Wadih Al Hage was there and helped to build up the Al Qaeda network in the 90's and spokeman for the cultural Jihadist Imams. Omar Shaheen runs the Islamic Center of Tuscon He was also the lawyer who defended two students who attempted to open a cockpit door during a dry run for 9/11. As one law enforcement agent put it -'they dont just come to Arizona for the sunshine'.
Two months after the 9/11 hijackings in 2001 Atif Fareed told an audience at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas that 'it took skill to fly sophisticated planes nearly 500mph into the World Trade Center Towers and the Pentagon.

Southwest Airlines Capt. Atif Fareed, a Muslim and 20-year pilot, told nearly 60 onlookers in the UNLV amphitheater that the mainstream media must think more critically.
When juxtaposed against his flight experience, he says reports casting the kamikaze pilots as 'inexperienced' are laughable. It took skill, he argues, to fly sophisticated planes nearly 500 mph into the World Trade Center towers and the Pentagon.
Fareed also says the media suffers from 'multitasking,' asking reporters with scant knowledge of Middle East affairs to cover that beat. 'I've been interviewed a half-dozen times and most of the reporters are in the dark about Islam,' he says. 'Some of the reporters can't even point to Afghanistan on a map.' (complete article below)
Atif spent three years in Las Vegas and attended the Islamic Society of Nevada whose congregrants seem to be a bit vague about Osama Bin Laden's role in the embassy bombings in Africa. Of course they hasten to add if he indeed did it he should brought to court and afforded all legal rights provided under U.S. law.
Las Vegas Muslims say U.S. Overeacted
'.Fareed, an airline captain who has lived three years in the Las Vegas area, said he fears non-Muslims are confused about his religion and the political motivation of bin Laden, a Saudi fundamentalist who relocated in Afghanistan and who is closely aligned with the Egyptian Islamic Jihad.'
http://www.reviewjournal.com/lvrj_home/1998/Aug-22-Sat-1998/news/8077071.html
Las Vegas Muslims on Friday condemned terrorist acts linked to renegade Saudi millionaire Osama bin Laden, but they also said the magnitude of the U.S. retaliatory missile strikes against bin Laden's strongholds in Afghanistan and a suspected chemical plant in Sudan were unwarranted.
'In Islam if you've killed a person, it's like you kill all of humanity,' said Atif Fareed, a native of India who was one of 500 Muslims attending a prayer service Friday at the Islamic Society of Nevada mosque on East Desert Inn Road.
Fareed and three other congregation members - Abdul Ansari, Reza Salimian and Douglas Lawrence Chenin - agreed that bin Laden was wrong if, as U.S. officials claim, he was behind the Aug. 7 bombings of U.S. embassies in Nairobi, Kenya, and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
But they said the United States use up to 79 cruise missiles 13 days later, knocking out targets and possibly killing innocent people, was inappropriate.
Said Chenin: 'Islam and terrorism is like positive and negative. They are two separate things. We believe all mankind is a single nation.'
Fareed, an airline captain who has lived three years in the Las Vegas area, said he fears non-Muslims are confused about his religion and the political motivation of bin Laden, a Saudi fundamentalist who relocated in Afghanistan and who is closely aligned with the Egyptian Islamic Jihad.
'There is a difference between religion and people who follow the religion,' Fareed said. 'If bin Laden did it, he deserves to be punished. We could have pinpointed him and had a more successful mission, but we didn't get bin Laden and there should not have been as much chance of civilian casualties.'
Ansari, another Islamic Society of Nevada member and an Afghanistan native who did not attend Friday's prayers-for-guidance service, said he is 'positively' worried about his 25 brothers, sisters, nephews and nieces who live in Mazar-e Sharif, an Afghan city 35 miles south of the former Soviet republic, Uzbekistan.
'Seventy cruise missiles for one person? That wasn't right,' Ansari said. The problem, he said, is not religion, it's politics.
'We don't like terrorism. We are not protecting terrorists. We are not standing behind them,' said Ansari, who fled Afghanistan 'after the (Soviets) kicked us out and the (hard-line) religious people took over.'
'I'm a a Muslim. I'm shaving. I'm a decent person. I'm against terrorism. Why should war be making more war?' Ansari said.
'He (hid) in my country. If the United States wants to prove justice, bring him (bin Laden) to justice in this country and try him,' he said.
Ansari, a U.S. citizen, said after fleeing Afghanistan in 1979, he joined his brother in Los Angeles, who had been in the United States since 1965.
An electronic technician, Ansari said he moved to Las Vegas in 1996 after the 1994 deadly earthquake in Northridge, Calif., destroyed his home and business.
Salimian - a native Iranian educated in Pakistan - recalled how the Islamic Society of Nevada has grown from five households in 1975 to the 500 who attended Friday prayer services.
The mosque was built in 1994. Boxer Mike Tyson occasionally comes to say prayers, he said, estimating there are 5,000 Muslims in the Las Vegas Valley who practice the teachings of the Koran, the words that Allah dictated to the prophet Mohammed.
In 2006 Atif Fareed helped to teach the FBI about Islam and Muslims he enthused that the 'training' helped break down barriers to communication and promote mutual understanding'. In 2004 Fareed had a more one sided meeting with the FBI when he was interrogated about his activities for 3 hours by agents.
CAIR-FL Trains FBI Agents on Islam and Muslims
(ORLANDO, FL, 05/05/06) - The Florida office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-FL) today held a diversity training workshop on Islam and the American Muslim community at the University of Central Florida's downtown Orlando Ying Academic Center.
Approximately 15 law enforcement agents, including members from the FBI and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, attended the workshop that examined basic Islamic beliefs and concepts, common stereotypes of Islam and Muslims, and ways in which to improve interactions with the Muslim community. Agents were able to ask questions throughout the two-hour CAIR-FL presentation.
'This type of positive interaction between law enforcement officials and the Muslim community helps break down barriers to communication and promotes mutual understanding,' added CAIR-FL Chairman Atif Fareed.
Fareed said CAIR-FL hopes that it will continue to expand the program to help train law enforcement authorities in other parts of the state, just as it did in Orlando and in Jacksonville. CAIR offices in other states have offered similar training programs.
CAIR, America's largest Muslim civil liberties group, has 32 offices and chapters nationwide and in Canada. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.

Defending Islam Is Chief Objective of Every Muslim (back)
December 28, 2006
by Abdunabi Shaheen
While inaugurating the seventh conference organised by Muslim World League (MWL) on defending Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), the Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia said defending the Prophet against the slanderous attacks by enemies of Islam is the chief objective of every Muslim.
He said the belief in Islam rests on obeying the Prophet in his words and deeds and to love him more than one loves oneself, one's sons, parents and people.
Shaikh Al Shaikh said Muslims cannot prevent unbelievers from attacking Islam but they should keep defending it by peaceful means.
The conference aims to create awareness among Muslims about the importance of cooperating among themselves to face peacefully all the stereotyped campaigns directed against Islam to distort its image.
Addressing the conference, Dr Abdullah Bin Abdul Mohsen Al Turki, MWL Secretary General, said: 'Western media is distorting the image of Islam by depicting it as a religion of terrorism. But the world is fully aware of the fact that Islam always advocates tolerance, peace, moderation and coherence.'
Meanwhile, Dr Jamal Badewi, chief of the Islamic Organisation in Canada, said: 'Throughout human history, the Prophet was the very first to take out the humanity from the darkness of ignorance, anarchy, idolism and barbarism to the light of monotheism, peace and justice. Islam taught international brotherhood, but alas how abhorrent it is that the West is inculcating hatred against Muslims and Islam.
'It is instilling in the minds and masses that Muslims are the enemy and the Prophet of humanity is the Prophet of the enemy.'
Dr Ahmad Nafea Al Muwarri, a professor at Um Al Qurra University in Makkah stated in a presentation: 'Defending Islam is an obligation, thus all Muslims should defend the faith.
'After 9/11, the Western media started campaigning against Muslims and Islam to the extent that they targeted the Prophet by publishing caricatures ridiculing him and showing him as a prophet of terrorism.'
He called upon all Muslims to face these attacks by unifying their ranks and collectively defend the faith, stressing that Islamic teachings never allow Muslims to attack others religions.

New dog eases grief
By ROGER AMSDEN AND RILEY YATES

CHARITY EDDY KNOWS the pain of unexpected loss.
More than three years ago, her 13-month-old son was killed in a car accident at her Franklin home.
An empty house loomed when her husband eventually had to return to work. Someone gave Eddy a Jack Russell terrier to keep her company.
This fall the dog, Lillian, gave birth to a litter of puppies, seven in all. Eddy knew one family that could use a puppy.
"We had gone through a hard time ourselves and had a puppy given to us in our time of need," Eddy said last night.
Max, a playful 8-week-old Jack Russell Terrier, is brightening life for the MacArthurs, a Hill family whose dog was shot and killed after straying onto a neighbor's property Dec. 15.
The terrier was given to the family last week as an early Christmas present from Charity and Alex Eddy, who had been moved to reach out to the MacArthurs after they heard of the death of Penny, the 6-pound Jack Russell-rat terrier mix.
"They came and got the pick of the litter," Eddy said.

Aidan and Dylan MacArthur of Hill play with their new pet, Max, an 8-week-old Jack Russell terrier given to the family after their pet Penny was killed 10 days before Christmas.
Kirsten MacArthur, the mother of the family, said that like all puppies, Max loves to chew, often on her children's toys.
But Dylan, 3, and Aidan, 20 months old, don't seem to mind.
"The boys just love him. He's as playful as can be and gets along with Simba and Nala, our two cats. He even takes naps with them,'' said MacArthur.
She said the two boys also keep her alert to any "accident'' Max might have and that she's learning how to housebreak the puppy.
"Penny was already grown when we got her so we didn't have to go through that learning process," MacArthur said.
She said the Eddys called her last week, after reading about Penny, and offered them a puppy from the litter born in October.
"That was a wonderful thing they did for our family. I can't thank them enough," MacArthur said.
Eddy said Max went out of his way to win MacArthur's heart, several times coming up to her as she looked over her choices.
"I think she was leaning toward another puppy, but that one picked her," Eddy said.
MacArthur said she and her husband, Kyle, have received many calls from people who are complete strangers offering condolences for the loss of Penny.
The family has also been contacted by one of their state legislators, Rep. Leigh Webb, D-Franklin.
Last night, Webb said animal cruelty law prohibits torture, abuse and mutilation, but does not mention the killing of an animal.
Another statute allows property owners to kill an animal that is attacking or "worrying" their livestock, a standard Webb said may be too lax.
"That's very bothersome that someone would have the legal right to dispose of a pet because it was on your property chasing your animals," Webb said.
Webb said he has spoken with the New Hampshire Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals about beefing up the law. He also plans to reach out to the farming community about possible legislation.
The deadline for filing new bills has already been reached. Webb said he would introduce it next year, or possibly on a blank bill that has been filed for this session.
The man charged in the death of Penny, Michael J. Donato, 52, of Currier Hill Road, Hill, had previously complained about the dog coming onto his property and chasing his chickens, according to Merrimack County Attorney Dan St. Hilaire.
Donato turned himself in to police last week and was charged with cruelty to animals, a Class A misdemeanor. He is scheduled to be arraigned in Franklin District Court on Jan. 22.
Fire Destroys Plane At Jones Riverside Airport
KOTV - 12/26/2006 9:37 PM - Updated 12/28/2006 9:55 AM
Tulsa Police now believe a student pilot likely started a fire at the Jones Riverside Airport.
The fire caused about $200,000 damage and destroyed a Cessna 172 aircraft.
Investigators say the student rented a plane and was apparently trying to move it, when one of the wings clipped a support beam and sparked the fire.
No one was injured.

Islamic Jihad: We are firing rockets in bid to sabotage Gaza truce
The Iranian-backed militant group Islamic Jihad is firing Qassam
rockets at
Israel with the intention of sabotaging the month-long Gaza truce and
provoking Israeli retaliation, members of the group said Wednesday.
"That's one of the main reason for resuming [rocket] attacks," said Abu
Ahmad, a spokesman for the group.
Meanwhike two rockets fired at Israel Wednesday evening landed south of
Ashkelon. There were no injuries or damages in either incident.
An Islamic Jihad rocket attack Tuesday evening on the nearby Negev town
of
Sderot seriously wounded two 14-year-old boys and triggered the Israeli
decision to resume targeting the rocket squads.
In the wake of the Tuesday night strike on Sderot, Prime Minister Ehud
Olmert and Defense Minister Amir Peretz on Wednesday morning instructed
the
Israel Defense Forces to resume pinpoint operations targeting rocket
launching cells in Gaza.
A short time later, another Qassam rocket struck an open area north of
the
western Negev town, causing no damage or injuries.
The decision by Olmert and Peretz essentially adopts the defense
minister's
proposal to alter the policy of restraint in the wake of ongoing fire
on
southern Israel.
"A directive has been given to the defense establishment to take
pinpoint
action against the rocket-launching squads," Olmert's office said in a
statement, a day after two teenage boys were wounded, one of them
critically, by a Qassam rocket that struck the western Negev town of
Sderot.
The two met with senior military and intelligence officials to discuss
the
escalation of rocket fire across the Gaza border on Wednesday morning.
According to the Prime Minister's Office statement, the IDF has also
been
instructed to uphold the cease-fire in general. "In parallel, Israel
will
continue to maintain the ceasefire and work with the Palestinian
Authority
so that immediate steps are taken to halt the Qassam firings."
Government spokeswoman Miri Eisin said Israel would do its best to
preserve
the truce, even while attacking rocket-launching cells. "Israel has
shown
restraint," she said. "Israel will continue to be restrained, and we
will
only take pinpointed action against the launching cells."
Deputy Defense Minister Ephraim Sneh said following the decision that
the
military option cannot completely solve the Qassam rocket problem, and
that
diplomatic and economic steps were needed in the Gaza Strip, according
to
Israel Radio.
Responding to decision, Saeb Erekat, a senior aide to PA Chairman
Mahmoud
Abbas, said maintaining the cease-fire was in the Palestinian national
interest, calling on Palestinian militants to stop firing Qassam
rockets.
"I also urge Israel to refrain from attacking the Palestinians and to
be
committed to the ceasefire," he said. "Our past experience taught us
that
violence begets violence and bullets beget bullets."
Hamas government spokeswoman Ghazi Hamad denounced the decision to
"continue their aggression against our people," but added: "We still
believe
that this agreement is alive, and both sides should respect this
agreement
because it is (in) the interest (of) our people."
Islamic Jihad, however, threatened to increase the rocket fire in
response
to the decision.
"Stop the attacks in the West Bank and Gaza Strip immediately or expect
more
rockets on Sderot and on Ashkelon and beyond," warned a leaflet issued
by
Saraya al-Quds, the military arm of Islamic Jihad.
"There will be no truce with the Israeli enemy at the expense of the
blood
of our people," the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades also threatened, the
semi-official, semi-independent armed wing of President Mahmoud Abbas'
opposition Fatah party.
A senior aide to Abbas warned the Israeli decision would "negatively
affect"
the outcome of Saturday's meeting between Abbas and Israeli Prime
Minister
Ehud Olmert.
"What was decided in Israel will create an atmosphere that is not
encouraging," Nabil Amr told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa.
Peretz and senior IDF officials had called on Olmert to suspend the
policy
of restraint and let the army fire at Qassam rocket-launcher cells that
can
be identified during or shortly after operation.
"We cannot continue to restrain ourselves," Peretz told Olmert on
Tuesday
night. "We cannot let Jihad continue to do what it wants; we must take
immediate action against the Qassams."
Peretz has been vocal in recent days about his dissatisfaction with the
policy of restraint. He agrees with IDF officials who support
identifying
missile-launcher cells and destroying them during or immediately after
a
launch. Peretz believes the risk to Palestinian civilians is low if the
IDF
operations are confined to unpopulated areas used by terror cells, and
that
this would not end the cease-fire.
Military sources admitted that the cell responsible for Tuesday's
missiles
could not be located due to inclement weather. Military officials had
warned
since close to the beginning of the cease-fire that failure to respond
to
the attacks would cost Israeli lives.
Opposition leader Benjamin Netanyahu (Likud) told Israel Radio on
Wednesday
that the Israel Defense Forces must immediately reoccupy key areas of
the
Gaza Strip, including the Philadelphi Route along the Gaza-Egypt
border, in
order to prevent the ongoing Qassam rocket fire and arms smuggling.
"[The government] must take control of the areas from which Qassams are
fired - this is not the entire Gaza Strip, it is not even a small part
of
the Gaza," said the former prime minister. "But it is a defined area.
We
know the Qassam [range] radius, and where they are firing them."
"[The government] must stop [arms] smuggling, by taking control of key
areas," he said. When asked if this includes the Philadelphi Route,
Netanyahu responded "definitely," although he said the military
presence
there would not necessarily be permanent.
Netanyahu also called on the government to work to bring about the fall
of
the Hamas-led Palestinian Authority government, and "halt all
negotiations
and all gestures, until a complete end to the terrorism."
"The way to overthrow the Hamas government is to strangle it," he said.
"They were under a strangle-hold that almost brought about their
collapse,
you saw them in a civil war. And this strangle-hold was an economic one
-
they couldn't pay salaries."
"What has the government done?" he said, referring to the decision to
transfer $100 million to PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas. "The government has
opened the flow of money - not just from Israel, [although] $100
million is
a lot of money - but also the flow of hundreds of millions of dollars
from
the Europeans, saving the Hamas government."
"That is a fundamental error, and an additional error is to declare a
unilateral cease-fire that essentially allows them to fire at us and
demonstrates weakness," he said.
National Infrastructures Minister Benjamin Eliezer echoed the defense
minister's sentiment, telling Israel Radio: "We cannot restrain
ourselves
anymore. We've restrained ourselves, and it's good that we did, because
the
entire world saw that we did above and beyond [what was called for],
but we
cannot turn an entire town, excuse me, into a graveyard."
The former defense minister stressed, however, that he would only
recommend
the IDF resume targeting Qassam rocket cells, saying the military
should not
reoccupy parts of Gaza.
Qassam wounds two 14-year-old boys, one critically
Two boys, both 14, were injured on Tuesday night when a Qassam rocket
landed
in the street near where they were walking. Both were treated by Magen
David
Adom paramedics and taken to Barzilai Medical Center in Ashkelon.
A total of eight Qassams were fired at Israel Tuesday, the most in a
single
day since the cease-fire was declared about a month ago.
Late Tuesday night, hospital officials said that Adir Ghasad was in
surgery
and in critical condition, while Matan Cohen was in moderate to serious
condition and in danger of losing his leg.
The hospital's director Dr. Shimon Sherf told Israel Radio on Wednesday
morning that Ghasad's condition had stabilized.
"He arrived in very serious condition, in critical condition, [and] was
barely able to maintain blood pressure," said Sherf. "He was full of
shrapnel from head to toe, and after a lengthy surgery ... we were able
to
stabilize him. He is currently in recovery and maintaining blood
pressure,
and I hope he will make it through this trauma."
A Barzilai Hospital official told Israel Radio later Wednesday that
Ghasad's
life was no longer in any immediate danger, and he would be transferred
to
the intensive care unit.
"The second boy [Cohen] is stable, he is on a respirator, and he is
maintaining blood pressure," said Sherf. "He has shrapnel in soft
tissue in
various parts of his body. Other than the amputation of four toes ...
his
condition is relatively stable." Cohen's condition is listed as
moderate to
serious.
According to the hospital official, Cohen will be transferred to Soroka
Medical Center for observation.
Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for firing the missiles from the
Gaza Strip at the western Negev town.
The incident was the most serious since a cease-fire was put into
place,
although more than 60 rockets have been fired during this period.
The IDF did not respond to the Qassams, observing the policy of
restraint
set by Olmert.
Another Sderot resident was slightly injured earlier this week by a
Qassam.
One of the Qassams fired at Israel Tuesday landed in the industrial
area in
south Ashkelon, close to a strategic infrastructure installation.
Another
rocket landed south of the city. Four Qassams landed in open areas in
the
vicinity of Sderot, while another landed inside the city. Eight people
were
treated for shock as a result of that missile, which also damaged
buildings
and cars.
A mortar landed near an IDF base near the Gaza border, across from the
center of the Strip.
Palestinian sources said that a Palestinian farmer in the northern Gaza Strip was shot by IDF soldiers. Ismai'il Ghaban, 27, was on land owned
by
his family, north of Beit Lahia, when he was reportedly shot in the
neck and
the knee. IDF sources say he was shot while causing damage to the
border
fence. Palestinians have recently dismantled large parts of the border
fence
in the area to sell the metal for scrap. IDF soldiers are permitted to
shoot
anyone damaging the fence.
A resident of Sderot who lives near where the two teenagers were hit
Tuesday
night described what happened when the missile fell in the street
outside.
"I was at home, my daughter was on the second floor and suddenly
started
screaming," Shimon Peretz related.
"I went downstairs and saw the boys. I got my neighbor, he's a medic,
and
performed first aid on them and then I called for an ambulance. I can't
describe the moment when the children were screaming and panicking.
Just
this morning two Qassams fell here with no warning."
A friend of the two injured boys adds: "I heard the 'red alert,' I was
at
home, and then I heard a loud noise and suddenly saw my friends lying
on the
ground, one was lying there with no foot." He added that the home of
one of
the boys, Matan Cohen, had been hit previously by a Qassam.
Angry residents gathered at the site. Some people were in shock, others
expressed anger at the government's impotence and at its failure to
protect
Sderot's inhabitants.
Two teenage girls who were in shock were evacuated by ambulance after
refusing to return to their homes. The families of the two boys,¬ the
Cohens
and the Ghasads, ¬ went to Barzilai to be with the injured, as did
many
friends of the families.
The residents expressed anger at Olmert's failure to visit Sderot and
see
the true situation of the city. One mother shouted that she cannot go
to
work because she has to stay at home with her children due to their
great
anxiety.

A UK jihadi website has issued a call to British Muslims to travel to
Somalia and fight alongside Islamist forces there, currently under
attack by
Ethiopian troops and their Somali allies.
The call was issued on the Muntadaa website
http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3345665,00.html#n
, whose
followers support al-Qaeda, and appear to draw mainly from British
residents.
"The Ethiopians with full international support (from the Christian
crusader
regimes) and directly backed by illegitimate Israel (Zionists) have
violated
the blood of the Muslims in Somalia. By committing such an act of
terrorism
the Muslims in Somalia and nearby lands have responded to the divine
call of
Jihad," the message said, posted by a user of the site.
"The obligation of supporting the Jihad all over the world (including
Somalia) is Fard Ayn (an individual obligation)," the message
continued.
"You can fulfill this duty financially, physically and verbally. This
honourable act must be carried out according to your own capabilities
because our beloved Prophet Muhammad (saw) said Strike the Mushrik
(hypocrite) with your wealth, hands and tongue. Therefore no Muslim
(man or
woman) has an excuse of doing nothing at all," the statement added.
Quoting a hadith - oral tradition of Islam's prophet, Muhammad - the
statement concluded: "Muhammad (saw) said There will always exist a
group
from my Ummah (nation) who will continue to fight for the Deen (rule)
of
Allah, always dominating over their enemy. (the group will exist at all
times and will always be fighting for the truth until the final hour is

Pakistanis allegedly supplying defective arms-report
New Delhi - In a strategic move to operate in Indias backyard, Pakistani officials have allegedly greased the palms of some senior Sri Lankan Army officials and bureaucrats and resorted to honeytrap tactics to sell arms and ammunition of poor quality to Sri Lanka at exorbitant prices.
However, the lid from the brewing Sri Lankan defence scandal blew off recently when the defence forces frustration reached the top brass after it was discovered that most of the military ware purchased from Pakistan was either sub-standard or second-hand.
A Top Secret note, that reached the Government of India through diplomatic channels, said the situation became grim when some of the bombs aimed at LTTE targets by the Sri Lankan Air Force turned out to be dummies and fell in the target areas like stones.
A major problem area for the Lankan forces has been Pakistan-supplied electronic fuses, which are crucial components in bombs. Of the 500 electronic fuses supplied, 200 were found to be faulty.
After Colombo took up the matter with Islamabad, the Pakistan Government reluctantly agreed to take back the remaining electronic fuses and sent a specially chartered AN-32 transport plane with the replacement.
Lankan forces personnel are openly talking in diplomatic circuits that Pakistani supplies were actually killing them more than the LTTE. The Tigers are able to fight more effectively with small arms compared with the dummy heavy ammunition supplied to the Lankan forces by Pakistan. So far, Sri Lankan defence forces have purchased military ware worth $30 million from Pakistan.
A repeat supply of the above merchandise has been ordered. Purchases in the pipeline include second-hand tanks (22 Al Zarar) worth over $ 80 million, armoured vehicles and jeeps. The Pakistanis are aggressively pushing for the defence supplies at the Sri Lankan defence HQ and Pakistani arms agents are making frequent trips to Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka is looking to make purchases worth $ 100 million from Pakistan in the coming few months. The deal size may even go up to a cumulative figure of $ 250 million in the next 18 months.
Pakistan currently exports a tiny $ 200 million worth of arms. The possibility of such large orders flowing in from a single country (Sri Lanka) has made the Pakistani military machinery hyperactive.
Pakistan is making a killing in its arms supplies to Sri Lanka. That is because some of the spares that they have supplied to Sri Lanka have been procured from Ukraine and a few other Central Asian countries. Moreover, Pakistani spares' supplies of $ 6.9 million made to Sri Lanka in last few weeks were actually sourced by HIT-Pakistan (Heavy Industries Taxila) from Ukraine at $3 million and re-exported to Colombo.
So far, $ 5 million have been paid to corrupt Lankan officials by Pakistan. The sleaze money has been deposited in a tax haven country, most likely St Kitts.
Commission paid to the defence agent representing Pakistan in Sri Lanka is 20-25 per cent. Of this 15-20 per cent flows as kickbacks to the Sri Lankan officials.
Sri Lanka buys arms from Pakistan because Colombo has scouted around for meeting its spares demand, but few are willing to make supplies. It is against this backdrop that the Pakistanis, who themselves are facing spares crunch, have moved in quickly to fill the void.
India cannot make military exports to Sri Lanka for obvious political reasons.
The Pakistanis are, in fact, procuring spares and ammunition from third countries and re-exporting some of these to Sri Lanka at inflated costs.
Pakistan defence companies are paying huge kickbacks to certain willing and corrupt Sri Lankan officials. It is estimated that bribes worth $ 15 million is likely to change hands in the immediate few months for the next batch of Pakistani arms exports to Sri Lanka. The kickback figure will go substantially higher if the deal size goes up to $ 250 million.
Some of the sleaze money actually flows back to Pakistani officials.
The Sri Lankan government is likely to order a probe into the defence scam soon. -Tribune News Service
Govt. denies
The Government last night denied the allegation published in the Tribune News Service that Pakistan has given bribes to Sri Lankan officials to sell defective arms.

Statement from the Political Bureau of JAMI Addressed to its Military Wing, Salah al-Din al-Ayoubi Brigades, and to the Iraqi People
By SITE Institute
December 28, 2006
The Political Bureau of the Islamic Iraqi Resistance Front (JAMI) issued a statement today, Thursday, December 28, 2006, consisting of two messages addressed to the Iraqi people and its Military Wing, the Salah al-Din al-Ayoubi Brigades. Jihad, praised as that which will bring honor to Islam and protect Muslims and their lands, and chosen by the Mujahideen, is juxtaposed to the political process that JAMI believes has proven to be failure. They claim that time has given evidence that politics cannot achieve the same goals as jihad, and to the Iraqi people, JAMI urges unity and support for the insurgency groups. The message states: You will not enjoy peace and security unless they are only under the shadow of guns of the Mujahideen. The Safawi-American attack will only be defeated by your embracement of Jihad and its stationed lions.
To the Salah al-Din al-Ayoubi Brigades, the political statement reminds them of their namesake, and instructs them to continue their strikes against the occupier and his followers, and envision victory through jihad.

Hezbollah Fund-Raiser's Mission: Money for Bullets and Loans
By ANDREW HIGGINS
Published in: Wall Street Journal
December 28, 2006
BEIRUT, Lebanon -- Hussein al-Shami, custodian of cash for the Islamist militant group Hezbollah, has had a rough few months.
During Hezbollah's 33-day war with Israel this summer, Israeli warplanes obliterated the 10-story Beirut apartment building where Mr. Shami had lived with his family. They also targeted a credit agency he runs for Hezbollah. All but one of its nine branches were destroyed, he says. Then in September, the U.S. Treasury Department named him as a "Specially Designated Global Terrorist."
Now he's back at work in the Lebanese capital, pursuing his intermingled missions. He's shepherding funds for Hezbollah, which the U.S. brands a terrorist group. He's also running an enterprise that the U.S. normally supports: making microloans to nurture a culture of self-help capitalism.

Islamist forces suddenly disappear from Somali capital
By Jeffery Gettleman
Published in: International Herald Tribune
December 28, 2006
NAIROBI: The Islamist forces who have controlled much of Somalia in recent months suddenly vanished from the streets of the capital, Mogadishu, just as thousands of rival troops massed 25 kilometers away, according to residents.
In the past few days, Ethiopian-backed forces, with tacit approval from the United States, have unleashed tanks, helicopter gunships and jet fighters on the Islamists, decimating their military and paving the way for the internationally recognized transitional government of Somalia to assert control.
Even so, the Islamists, who have been regarded as a regional menace by Ethiopia and the United States, had repeatedly vowed to fight to the death for their religion and their land, making their disappearance that much more unexpected.
Fortified checkpoints across the city - in front of the radio station, at the airport, at the main roads leading into Mogadishu and outside police stations - were abruptly abandoned Wednesday night, residents said. Many of the teenage troops who made up the backbone of the Islamist army had blended back into the civilian population, walking around without guns or their trademark green skullcaps.

Video Interview with Commander Mujahid Mullah Dadullah by as-Sahab
By SITE Institute
December 28, 2006
As-Sahab, al-Qaedas multimedia production arm, produced and distributed a 32:19 minute video interview with the Taliban Commander Mujahid, Mullah Dadullah, during his visit to center of al-Qaeda Mujahideen in Afghanistan. The English-subtitled video was issued today, Thursday, December 28, 2006. The words asked of Dadullah and his responses composed only half of the film time, the other half consisting of chanting and greetings for the Commander Mujahid at the base. Asked of Dadullah are his interpretations of the current conditions in Iraq of the Mujahideen and foreign forces, what is Mullah Muhammad Omars capacity as leader, why suicide operations have been steadily increasing, and his appraisal of Muslims who abandon jihad or have entered into talks with the Karzai regime in Kabul. Dadullah also responds to the reaction of the Afghanis and Mujahideen to the cartoons ridiculing the Prophet Muhammad that were printed in the Danish press the previous year.
Questioning begins with the current conditions in Afghanistan, to which Dadullah claims successive victories and forcing coalition forces to seek withdrawal, and depart in shame and embarrassment. He states that the Taliban has inflicted upon them a terrible defeat, and already the United States has given control over to NATO, which is also seeking methods to escape from certain defeat. His victory rhetoric carries over into several other queries, positing that the severity of daily Mujahideen attacks and the Islamic equivalent of an atomic bomb, suicide bombings, have forced American and British forces to pull out of villages and districts in southern Afghanistan. Dadullah indicates that the Mujahideen desire to expand their operations to Kabul.
Mullah Dadullah also lauds the youth of the Muslim Ummah for undertaking martyrdom operations, believing that such is the only method of confronting and acting as a deterrent against the enemys nuclear weapons. He notes the effect these suicide operations have had in Iraq and Afghanistan, and charges that in each attack, at least twenty of the enemy forces are killed. Regarding the cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad, here Dadullah explains that many individuals registered with him for suicide operations to respond to the act, but the Karzai regime fought them and prevented this act of demonstration.
The remainder of the interview concerns the incumbency of jihad upon the Muslim Ummah, and Muslims who refrain from participating, be it by physical combat or support, are not true Muslims. In particular to those who not only shirk but negotiate with the enemy administration, which is abhorrent while Muslim men and women are continually tortured and besmirched of their honor, Mullah Dadullah states: This is something impossible to comprehend or accept. And be witness that whoever undertakes it, we will behead them with the Americans, Allah permitting. He concludes by entreating Muslims to support the Mujahideen, especially businessmen who he believes would benefit most in the hereafter by giving their money to the pursuit of jihad.

Speech from the Emir of the Islamic Army in Iraq, Spoken by Dr. Ali al-Naami, about the Evils of the Safawi Iran, and Plans for a New Confrontation in Jihad
By SITE Institute
December 28, 2006
A statement regarding an alleged Iranian Safawi project vis-à-vis Iraq and the Sunni people from the Emir of the Islamic Army in Iraq, read by the groups media spokesman, Dr. Ali al-Naami, was issued today, Thursday, December 28, 2006, by al-Boraq Media in a 21:30 minute audio clip and accompanying Arabic transcript. Iranian acts against the Sunnis, not only in Iraq, but Iran, and additionally, criminal acts perpetrated against Palestinians residing in Iraq are the crux of the emirs message, using such examples as Sunnis being killed or arrested for no reason but having the name Omar or Usman, within the grand scheme of Iranian hatred. Methods of indescribable torture, fabrications of owning means to produce weapons of mass destruction, and deceiving and exploiting the American administration are alleged to be parts of the Iranian scheme for regional domination.
The Emir of the Islamic Army in Iraq claims that up until this point, the Mujahideen were unable to concentrate on deterring the Iranians due to their jihad against the American-led coalition forces; however, he indicates that the Mujahideen will soon have a new confrontation and Iran will stand to lose much in this course. He states: The lions of jihad whom rubbed the noses of the American empire in the dirty and drowned it in the quagmire of humility and disgrace, is able, with the support of Allah the Dear and the Almighty, of doing to Iran more than that. Then Iran will find out that its masters the Americans, the Jews and its allies will not do it any good, and that its war against more than one billion Sunnis was a mistake.

A Message from the Commander Muhannad in Chechnya to the Muslims Performing Hajj and to All Muslims in General
By SITE Institute
December 28, 2006
A message from the Commander Muhannad, who recently assumed the leadership of the Arab Mujahideen in Chechnya following the death of its previous commander, Abu Hafs al-Urduni, addressing Muslims participating in the Greatest Hajj [al-Hajj al-Akbar], was posted to the Arabic website of the Chechen jihad and distributed to jihadist forums today, Thursday, December 28, 2006. Muhannads message is similar to those made in the past by Urduni and another commander, Abu Abdullah al-Turki, urging Muslims to support the Mujahideen in Chechnya both financially and morally. He asks Muslims making the pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia to pray for the Mujahideen, as they have been deprived of the celebration of Eid al-Aha by the Russians, who substituted it with killing, fear and misery.
Muhannad additionally states: I give the good news to our Muslim brothers everywhere that your brothers, the Mujahideen in Chechnya, are still resisting the Russian occupier and their painful operations make the Russian bear suffer till the day - Allah willing - they will announce its withdrawal and defeat in Chechnya.

The Greatest Hopes by Doing Jihad in Somalia by Lewis Attiya Allah
By SITE Institute
December 28, 2006
An article offering advice to the Mujahideen in Somalia and urging Muslims to travel to Somalia to engage in jihad against Ethiopia, written by Lewis Attiya Allah, an al-Qaeda ideologist, was distributed by al-Fajr Information Center today, Thursday, December 28, 2006. Steeped in Quranic verses and religious justification for jihad and its incumbency upon Muslims, Attiya Allahs text observes Somalia as a new market for jihad and new front for the Mujahideen. As such, to secure the necessary victory, the Somali Mujahideen are urged to dig trenches, prepare explosives, setup landmines along strategic roads and quarters, and use the experience from the jihad in Iraq and Afghanistan to their advantage in terms of methodology and awareness of the enemy. Facilitating the means for foreign Mujahideen to enter Somalia is also deemed prudent, as they are the fuel of the war and backbone of jihad.
Attiya Allah states: So now the real battle will commence in Somalia, the beauty spot of Islam in the Horn of Africa. Now the people of Islam will have the opportunity to give the enemies of Allah a taste of calamities by those generations educated and trained in the schools of Jihad, and then establish the souls, Ummah, and the country slowly with sturdiness.
