Wonder what the truth is???

SkyFox captured incredible video of a Russian rocket body bursting into flames as it crashed to earth over North America.

NORAD has confirmed that the light show was caused by the re-entry of a spent russian science rocket or "space junk" in layman's terms.

SkyFOX pilot Rob Marshall and photojournalist Josh White captured the event at about 6:15 a.m. Mountain Standard Time while they were flying over Denver

More Rhode Island Schools Closed in Disease Outbreak

COVENTRY, R.I., Jan. 4 — More than 20,000 Rhode Island students were told Thursday to stay home from school at least until Monday as officials investigate the case of a student hospitalized Wednesday with meningitis.

The New York Times
The officials are trying to determine whether that case is related to an encephalitis outbreak last month in which a second grader from Warwick died.

Schools in Coventry, Warwick and West Warwick were closed early Thursday after officials learned that a student at Hopkins Hill Elementary School here had meningitis. The child is recovering and was expected to be released from the hospital quickly, officials said.

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence closed eight schools in those communities, and Warwick canceled youth activities for Thursday and Friday.

“Due to similarities with the three other children who had encephalitis, we wanted to take an abundance of caution and recommend the closing of schools while we collect additional information,” said Dr. David R. Gifford, the state’s director of health.

Officials are investigating whether the illness was caused by mycoplasma, a common bacteria known as walking pneumonia.

Officials said three prior cases of encephalitis, which causes brain swelling and is usually caused by a virus, were rare because they were set off by mycoplasma. One of the three students also had meningitis, officials said.

Coventry, Warwick and West Warwick are the Rhode Island communities affected. Officials said they have had high rates of children with pneumonia since October. Investigators are looking at links between increased absenteeism and the encephalitis cases in Warwick and West Warwick.

“We had 20 to 24 cases in one school and 30 in another,” said the Coventry school superintendent, Kenneth DiPietro.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is looking into a number of causes, including whether a new or virulent strain of mycoplasma has developed, said Dr. Gifford of the state Health Department.

Connecticut and Massachusetts have sent epidemiologists to assist in the investigation. Neither state has reported similar cases.

School districts throughout Rhode Island are sending letters and e-mail messages home to parents, urging parents and custodians to keep sick children home and listing preventative measures like hand washing and coughing into the elbow, not the hand.

The Health Department is asking school nurses to report students with pneumonia immediately, and custodians are washing desks and telephones.

Pediatricians’ offices are swamped with calls.

“We’re asking parents to report students who have had strep or pneumonia, to better know if there are any patterns or clusters,” said Rosemarie K. Kraeger, school superintendent in Middletown.

That district surveyed its nurses this week for such cases, Ms. Kraeger said.

Gov. Donald L. Carcieri said he planned an executive order requiring all elementary schools to distribute gel hand sanitizers. The order will include broader measures that are being formulated, Mr. Carcieri said.

The governor and Dr. Gifford sought to allay fears at a news conference on Thursday afternoon, assuring the parents that the virus is spread just through coughing and saliva and did not survive well outside the body.

“Being with someone for a short period of time in an elevator, sporting event, dinner party or playing after school is not how it’s transmitted,” Dr. Gifford said. “It doesn’t live in air-conditioning ducts.”

Parents in Coventry said they were glad that the state was taking extra precautions and closing school.

“I’m glad they’re closed down, so it doesn’t spread around,” said Beverly Baron, whose son Robert is in the eighth grade at Knotty Oak Middle School.

Ms. Baron said she learned of the closing by e-mail.

“It’s enough to scare you,” she said.

Cindy Naro, 41, who lives next door to Ms. Baron with her sons Christopher, 12, and Nicholas, 9, stayed home from her job-training program to care for her children.

Ms. Naro said she did not know that school was closed until Christopher’s bus did not arrive. Ms. Naro said she was worried because Nicholas attends Hopkins Hill and tends to become sick easily, although he has been feeling fine.

“I told him, ‘I don’t care if your baby toe hurts, I need to know,’ ” Ms. Naro said. “I have two kids in two different schools. How far is it going to go?”

Headed to prison

By: Tracey Read

Dawn Holin listens to the proceedings Thursday in Lake County Common Pleas Court as she is sentenced in connection with a plot to bomb several public officials. Jeff Forman/JForman@News-Herald.com

Ex-Madison Twp. woman gets 10 years for bomb plot
North Perry Police Chief Denise Mercsak and Jennifer Williams smiled and clutched each other's hands Thursday as Dawn Holin was sentenced to the maximum 10 years in prison for her role in a plot to kill four Lake County public officials.

Holin, 35, formerly of Madison Township, and her fiance, Joseph Sands, were arrested in April for conspiring to murder Mercsak, the late North Perry Mayor Thomas Williams, village Law Director Joseph Gurley and Painesville Municipal Court Judge Michael A. Cicconetti.

Jennifer Williams, the mayor's widow, angrily confronted Holin before the sentence was handed down. Williams has said the stress of learning that the pair planned to throw a pipe bomb at her house
contributed to her husband's sudden death of cardiac arrest at the age of 58.

"You wanted to kill my husband because of some minor injustice you believe he was associated with," the widow said. "As if plotting his death wasn't bad enough, you didn't even blink an eye that his wife and daughter could also be killed.

"We are not free to throw bombs through people's windows when you disagree with them. This is not how we handle disagreements in America."

Cicconetti appeared nervous when standing behind Holin to address the court.

"I'm very uncomfortable here today, but certainly not as much as I was that week in April," the judge said.

"My two sons have to live with the fact that terrible, terrible people are in this world. I think the scars will always remain."

Holin showed no reaction as she was led back to jail by sheriff's deputies and declined to speak on her own behalf.
"I have nothing to say," she told Lake County Common Pleas Judge Eugene A. Lucci.

Her attorneys, Terry Gilbert and Andrea Whitaker, argued that Holin should be given a lighter sentence of four to six years in prison.

"The bottom line is, Dawn Holin did not have a major role in this conspiracy," Gilbert said. "The idea came from Joe Sands. Everything that she did - from ordering the gunpowder to making phone calls to getting addresses - were all due to orders from Joe Sands.

"She said she was intimidated, easily manipulated by Joe Sands. Joe Sands had total physical and emotional control of Dawn. Joe Sands got her into this problem in the first place, and continues to control her life. She is totally misguided. She is totally dependent on this man who dragged her into the depths of criminal activity."

Gilbert described Holin as a mother of three young children with low intelligence and three failed marriages behind her.
She continues to suffer as a result of being sexually molested as a child by a family member, he said.

Her past criminal record consisted mainly of nonviolent theft offenses, he added.

However, Chief Assistant Lake County Prosecutor Karen Kowall countered that Holin was just as guilty as Sands.

"She gave a very detailed confession as to her knowledge of this plot and her role in this plot," Kowall said.

"She was very calculating and thorough. We believe she had a major role in this offense."

Although Holin pleaded
guilty Dec. 4 to four counts of conspiracy to commit murder,
she attempted to withdraw her guilty plea and fire her attorneys Thursday before she was sentenced.

Acting as her own lawyer, Holin filed paperwork stating her attorneys lied to her and got her to plead guilty against her wishes.

"I didn't want to take the plea," she told Lucci.
"I wanted to take it to trial, because I'm not guilty."

When Lucci asked her why she pleaded guilty, Holin stated, "I was being pressured by my attorneys."

But when the judge asked her to give specific examples of how they pressured or lied to her, Holin could not come up with any. Lucci then denied her requests.

"You gave me no reason to remove these very well-qualified attorneys from this case," he
said.

Sands, 41, is serving the
maximum 20-year prison sentence after being convicted in November of conspiracy and engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity.

Sands was seeking revenge on the four officials because he believed they had been unfairly targeting him for minor indiscretions involving a sign at his North Perry auto business and failing to file his village taxes on time, Kowall said.
Sands and Holin are still scheduled for a joint federal trial in Cleveland Jan. 29 on related charges.

Meanwhile, Lucci said his sentence was designed to send this message to the duo:
"The rule of law must prevail. Those who administer the law will be protected by the law."

Germany Has Nuclear Weapons!
by David Ben-Ariel Saturday January 06, 2007 at 05:41 AM

Germany will restore law and order to Europe

Anybody who foolishly thinks that Germany does not have nuclear weapons (besides those the United States has on German soil) seriously needs to THINK AGAIN and beware the historic German element of surprise and blitzkrieg. Germany has nuclear weapons and undoubtedly has possessed nuclear weapons since Franz Josef Strauss.

"During the 1970s, US codebreakers found dramatic evidence that West German companies were selling the Sarin [nerve gas] secret to several Arab nations...

No one has ever examined the role of West German intelligence as a merchant of death for GRU clients such as Libya and Iraq. The greatest scandal may involve the German bankers...

Even more alarming are reports that West Germany is behind the secret proliferation of nuclear weapons. According to a former Argentine diplomat, a secret nuclear protocol was attached to a West German-Argentine Trade Treaty during the 1960s. The rationale was that West Germany was afraid that some day the Americans would pull out of NATO or withdraw their nuclear shield. Because of Soviet antipathy to German possession of the atomic bomb, it was decided to develop the nuclear weapons secretly by utilizing the large emigre communities of German scientists in Argentina and South Africa."

RUSSIAN ARMS TRADER HAS TIES FROM AFRICA TO KREMLIN

By Pavel Felgenhauer

Thursday, January 4, 2007

Last month Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree ordering all weapons exports to be handed over to the state arms trader Rosoboroneksport beginning March 1. The MiG corporation, the Tula-based Instrument Manufacturing Design Bureau (KBP), and other independent exporters that together shipped $624 million of weapons in 2005, will be forced to hand over their business to the state company, which has close ties to the Kremlin (Kommersant, December 15).

Since its formation in 2000 as a state-owned trading company, Rosoboroneksport has been transformed into an industrial conglomerate. According to its CEO, Sergei Chemezov, the company currently has $21 billion in confirmed arms export contracts (Interfax, November 13, 2006). In 2005 Rosoboroneksport's sales reached $5.2 billion, and now it will be a full export monopoly.

According to Chemezov, Rosoboroneksport has also been investing hundreds millions of dollars into Russia's defense industry (Strana.ru, November 13, 2006). Today Rosoboroneksport fully controls the production of civilian and military helicopters in Russia.

Intelligence officers and high-ranking military personnel in active service, including admirals and generals, staff the company. While serving at Rosoboroneksport, these officers still receive full military pay, benefits, promotions, and service medals.

Rosoboroneksport's trading practices are opaque, and its overall earnings have never been officially revealed. But commissions for its services, such as arranging the transport of weapons to their destinations, apparently considerably exceed 10% of Russia's annual arms exports.

Russian arms producers actually use Soviet designs and equipment and Soviet-made components for assembly. Often entire Soviet-made weapons systems are repainted and sold as "newly Russian-made" (see EDM, July 31, 2006). Illegal profits are sky-high and Rosoboroneksport has been at the center of this racket, stockpiling billions of dollars.

Rosoboroneksport is fully government owned, but it is clear that most -- if not all -- of its revenue is spent by the company -- not transferred to the state. In 2005, Rosoboroneksport paid $700 million to buy a 62% share in Russia's biggest car company Avtovaz; in 2006, another $700 million was paid to buy 66% of Avisma, one of the world's main producers of titanium (Kommersant, December 15).

Appointed in 2004, Rosoboroneksport CEO Chemezov is a former KGB operative who served in the 1980s in Dresden, East Germany, together with Putin (Wall Street Journal, May 19, 2006). Chemezov has been cited as a possible successor to Putin in the 2008 presidential elections (Moskovsky komsomolets, August 15, 2006; Moscow Times, December 7). Last month Chemezov was elected to the bureau of the Supreme Council of United Russia, the pro-Putin ruling party, putting him in an advantageous position ahead of the campaign season.

Today, few people consider Chemezov to be a front-runner. But he clearly enjoys close personal relations with Putin and comes from the circle of the president's old KGB pals. Chemezov also seems to have already assembled the largest war chest of all other serious contenders.

Whether or not Putin backs Chemezov to be the next Russian president, he and the Rosoboroneksport conglomerate already exert considerable influence on Russian policymaking. Today Russia seems to oppose U.S. actions and influence (at least verbally) on any front worldwide, but Chemezov has his own personal agenda in the Horn of Africa.

In 1998, Eritrea and Ethiopia began an armed conflict that still continues intermittently or through proxies. In the current fray in Somalia, the Eritreans supported the Islamists, while Ethiopian troops invaded to install a provisional government. In the late 1990s Chemezov, as head of the arms trading company Promeksport, supplied Ethiopia with Russian weapons worth billions, including Su-27 jets and attack helicopters together with mercenary Russian pilots. Last month the Ethiopian Air Force Chemezov helped build led the rapid advance on Mogadishu.

Commercially successful shipments of Russian weapons by Promeksport to different African war zones advanced Chemezov's career. In 2000 Putin merged Promeksport with Rosvooruzheniye to form Rosoboroneksport. Chemezov was first deputy CEO of the joint company and later its head.

In 1999, retired Colonel Vladimir Nefedov, former chief representative of Rosvooruzheniye in Ethiopia, told me that he was a freelance arms trader who had organized the purchase of MiG-29 jets by the Eritreans direct from the MiG corporation bypassing state arms trading companies. Eritrean diplomats in Moscow confirmed the story. Today Moscow (together with Washington) is backing the Ethiopians, while Eritrea and the Islamists are apparently being supplied with Russian weapons through other sources.

Russian-made weapons have also shown up recently in the Middle East. KBP, the independent arms trader based in Tula, supplied Syria with the modern anti-tank Russian Kornet missiles that Hezbollah allegedly used against the Israelis in Lebanon last summer. The fact that Islamists or their supporters in Lebanon and in the Horn of Africa used independently exported Russian weapons may have lead Putin to impose a strict arms trade monopoly.

Of course, when shipping modern arms to Iran, Venezuela, and China, Rosoboroneksport does not follow U.S. policy guidelines. Long-term Russian national interests are also not a priority. In arms trading and industrial empire building the private aims of former spooks are the denominator.

Experts conclude object that fell from sky was a meteorite

FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP, N.J. The experts have solved the mystery of that object that fell from the sky, crashing into a New Jersey home. Turns out it was a meteorite.
Geologists came to the conclusion after studying the object, which weighs about as much as a soup can and is the size of a golf ball. They say given its color, markings, density and magnetic properties, they believe it's a meteorite.

On Tuesday it crashed through the roof of a home in Freehold Township, about 50 miles south of New York City. It damaged tiles on a bathroom floor, then bounced into a wall, where it was stuck.

Experts say between 20 and 50 rock-like objects fall over Earth daily. But because much of the planet is covered by water and uninhabited land, it's rare for one to hit a house.

Schools slated to reopen after meningitis scare

CRANSTON, R.I. State health officials in Rhode Island are preparing to open schools on Monday after a meningitis scare.
They've also provided every school in the state with alcohol-based gels and dispensers.

Authorities say no new cases of meningitis have been reported after a child developed it and died a few weeks ago. That child died after first being diagnosed with mycoplasma, or "walking pneumonia."

Schools had been closed for two days as officials investigated whether there's a connection to the latest case of meningitis and a string of cases caused by walking pneumonia.

A jury in August convicted Hardrick Crawford Junior on two counts of lying about his relationship with a Mexican race track owner.

Crawford was convicted of concealing material facts about his association with Jose Maria Guardia and of making false statements about gifts he received from Guardia.

Crawford, who left his job in 2003, had denied any wrongdoing.

Crawford received six months in prison on each of the two counts, with the sentences to be served concurrently.

He later must serve three years of supervised release.

Plane with 2 on board missing day after it was supposed to land

DONIPHAN, Mo. Heavy fog in southeast Missouri and northeast Arkansas is hindering the search for a small plane missing for about a day.
Two people from Barr Air Patrol of Mesquite, Texas, were on board the Cessna 182-R that was scheduled to land yesterday afteronoon at the Batesville, Arkansas, Regional Airport. It failed to show up, and the last contact was earlier yesterday when the plane was over Ripley County, Missouri.

Barr Air Patrol president Mike McDuffie says a search and rescue operation will begin as soon as fog lifts -- perhaps by midday.

The names of the plane's occupants haven't been released. The company specializes in aerial patrol and transportation for oil, gasoline and petrochemical companies.

NORIAS, TEXAS
3 Dead in Kenedy County Plane Crash

Jan 3, 2007 10:04 PM

A pilot and two passengers were killed instantly when their small plane nose-dived into South Texas' King Ranch shortly after taking flight.

That's what an investigator with the National Transportation Safety Board said Wednesday.

NTSB investigator Bill Gamble says -- quote -- "It was a non-survivable crash,"

Published reports say the 25-year old pilot was a youth minister in New Summerfield, Texas.

He flew to the Valley to have dental surgery in Mexico and had invited two teens from his church to come along for the trip.

The 1966 model Cessna 172-H had left Weslaco in Hidalgo County and was headed to Jacksonville when it lost contact with an approach control service in Corpus Christi Tuesday evening.

The plane, which was registered to Joe Smith Farms Incorporated of Jacksonville, crashed near Norias in Kenedy County, about 60 miles south of Corpus Christi.

A call left with the company was not immediately returned this evening.

Gamble says the pilot, who was licensed to fly, appeared to be about 25 years old.

BROWNSVILLE
Police Searching for Violent Man Attacking Women

Jan 5, 2007 08:50 AM

Reported by Marcy Martinez

Violent attacks on women in Brownsville has the community on edge.

Anna Maria Lecea says she won't be stopping in the street without checking her surroundings especially after hearing three women had been brutally attacked in heavily populated areas this week.

Brownsville police say the men responsible for terrorizing these women are dangerous.

"They were attacked violently by the individual. Two of them were kicked and punched. The violent trend continues. It's escalating and we're very concerned."

The first victim is a 60 year old woman who was walking from the bridge. A man grabbed her purse and tried to steal it. But the woman put up a fight and was kicked several times by the suspect.

The following day in downtown Brownsville, a 61 year old woman was followed into an alley, then punched and kicked by a man who fled in a red Mustang with her purse.

And the most recent attack happened on Tangelo Street near Faulk Middle School.

The woman was in her car when a man jumped in the passenger's seat and stabbed her twice in the stomach with an ice pick, then attempted to take her purse.

Police believe the same culprits are behind all three vicious attacks.

"One subject in particular hasn't been linked to all three, but since there are three individuals in the same car, we feel they are acting together."

Lecea says she will now be more vigilant about who is walking her way on the streets of Brownsville.

"If someone comes up to ask a question, you're not going to feel safe helping them."

The victims have described their attackers as Hispanic men in their mid 20's in a candy apple red Mustang.

Police believe it's a 2005 to 2007 model.

They're asking anyone with information to contact the Crime Stoppers line at 546-TIPS.

A McAllen homeowner is likely feeling lucky to be alive after armed suspects abduct him from his McAllen home, force him into the trunk of his Jaguar, and then drive away with him.

Through information gathered from sources and at the scene, Action 4 News has learned that the homeowner, who lives on the 4900 block of North 25th Lane, was confronted by the gunmen as he arrived to his residence, at around 9 PM Wednesday night.

Sources say he's new to the subdivision.

BROWNSVILLE
Auto Theft Ring Busted in Brownsville

Jan 3, 2007 10:30 PM

Reported by Jennifer Cavazos

The break in all the cases came when police arrested two people who were unsuccessful in their attend to steal a car from a residential area last week.

Those arrested lead to 14 others from two different groups. The theft rings were stealing Dodge and Chevy vehicles.

"This is the first time we've had groups that diversify with two different makes of vehicles. They usually choose one or the other, but they were apparently trying to throw us off by stealing both products," says Lt. Adrian Mascorro with Brownsville Police.

The large number of arrests cleared almost 20 auto theft cases.

While police are working hard to stop the number of cars being stolen in the city, they admit the problem will never go away.

December had one of the highest number of stolen cars in all of 2006. And while the number of suspects has also increased, police say easy to an international bridge makes the auto theft rings so successful.

"A lot of it is luck, a lot of it is being at the right place at the right time. We've continued our bridge coverage and undercover operation so that helps," said Lt. Mascorro.

Police say drivers can play a big role in helping deter the problem with a simple anti-theft device.

"Just on their confessions they admit where they jump around to looking for different vehicles without a club, without an alarm or and move on to the next vehicle," says Mascorro.

Police are urging car owners to be cautious about locking and securing their vehicles. They say car thieves are targeting residential areas so something as simple as parking your car in the garage could keep it from being stolen.

Police tell us auto theft rings have people who patrol the three bridges and let them know a good time to cross the stolen vehicles.

They say if the thieves see police patrolling near the bridges, the suspects will park the stolen vehicle and wait until officers leave.

RAYMONDVILLE
Nine Arrested in Stabbing of Teens

Jan 3, 2007 08:37 AM

Reported by Jennifer Cavazos

Police say gangs in Raymondville are not a huge problem in their area, but Thursday a gang related stabbing makes neighbors wonder if gangs will begin to invade their neighborhood.

Virginia Shuey has lived in the small Raymondville neighborhood for six years.

"No traffic, no noise, the calm atmosphere and we have it here," says Virginia.

Virginia says the most crime this side of town has ever seen are a few break-ins.

Virginia says,"Raymondville is not that large, so anything that happens to it we all know it."

But never any problems with gangs, until now.

"I see the writings on one of my buildings, the gang slogan. I wonder if they're coming closer to us here. But in general, the court system doesn't punish them enough and they need to make them pay," says Virginia.

Last week, Raymondville police tell us members from the ‘Brown Pride' gang started a confrontation with two teenagers - 14 and 16 years old - at Northstar Apartments.

The exchange of words got physical, about a mile down the road, in the neighborhood near the high school where both teens ended up getting stabbed.

"From my understanding, there is a history among these juveniles involved as far as victims and the suspects," says Detective Marcelino Flores with Raymondville Police.

Nine suspects were arrested, six adults and three juveniles. While this particular gang is a new one in town, police tell us they're beginning to see adults and juveniles mix together.

Marcelino says, "Usually what happens is they start off as juveniles and grow into adults and that's pretty much what happened in this case. Most of the problems started off as juveniles and now they've become adults."

What neighbors say is unusual is most of the gang activity happens areas of town but police say, gangs don't discriminate.

All nine suspects are charged with two counts of attempted murder and one count of engaging in organized criminal activity.

The two teens have been released from the hospital healing from stab wounds.

I am shocked Pat said this He just put EVERYTHING on the line.

Quix, what are you reading and hearing?

Does Pat Robertson’s prediction of a terrorist attack on the U.S. this year concern you?

In what has become an annual tradition of prognostications, religious broadcaster Pat Robertson said Tuesday God has told him that a terrorist attack on the United States would result in "mass killing" late in 2007.

"I'm not necessarily saying it's going to be nuclear," he said during his news-and-talk television show "The 700 Club" on the Christian Broadcasting Network. "The Lord didn't say nuclear. But I do believe it will be something like that."

Robertson said God told him during a recent prayer retreat that major cities and possibly millions of people will be affected by the attack, which should take place sometime after September.

Does Robertson’s prediction of a terrorist attack on the U.S. concern you?

Pickle says terrorist attack on the Capitol is inevitable
By Albert Eisele

Senate Sergeant at Arms Bill Pickle ended four years in office yesterday with a plea to lawmakers and law enforcement officials to keep their guard up against what he called an inevitable terrorist attack on the Capitol.

“Nothing has changed since 9/11,” warned Pickle. “The Capitol is the symbol of America all over the world, and it’s clearly the No. 1 or 2 target of terrorists, as it was on 9/11. I truly believe at some point in the future, and I don’t know in what shape or form, we will be victimized again.

“Terrorists don’t have to hit a home run by knocking down the Capitol Dome. All they have to do is attack the Capitol complex [with an airplane or chemical or biological agents] and cause damage and loss of life, and it would produce shock waves around the country.”

Pickle, a 26-year veteran of the Secret Service who was chosen by then-Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.), criticized the outgoing Republican House leadership for resisting his efforts to develop a unified security strategy for the entire 233-acre Capitol complex.

He predicted that incoming Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and the House Democratic leadership “are going to be more responsive” to his successor, former Capitol Police Chief Terrence Gainer, in beefing up Capitol security.

“My biggest regret is that I wish I had been able to overcome some resistance from the House leadership in the area of security,” said Pickle, who emphasized he was “not finding fault” with the House sergeant at arms or the Capitol Police. “I haven’t been successful in developing a unified strategy with the House, mainly for political reasons.”

Asked what concrete steps he would take to improve security, Pickle, 56, said he would like “an aesthetically pleasing and historically accurate fence” around the 233-acre Capitol complex, even though “a number of senators are opposed to it.”

It “would not take away from the grandeur and beauty of the Capitol but it would provide chokepoints and would control access to the Capitol campus,” he said.

The new $584 million Capitol Visitors Center would not improve security, said Pickle, conceding that balancing the needs for access to the Capitol complex and security of the area may be an impossible goal.

“We have upwards of 100,000 people a day visiting and working in the Capitol complex, and there is a demand to keep it secure from attack, and also a demand to keep it open, and you can’t reconcile the two,” he said.

“The … fact that we are such an open branch of government gives me great pause. While we might be doing a good job of protecting the Capitol, we have another 18 to 20 buildings with up to 15,000 employees to protect as well.”

Pickle said some members and staff are defensive about the hundreds of millions of dollars spent to protect the complex. “My answer is that it’s not about you, it’s about the Constitution demanding that this body continue to meet and function.”

Pickle, who described the last four years as “wonderful,” said Frist asked him if he really wanted the job.

“When I said, ‘Why do you ask?’ he said, ‘Because it’s the worst job on the Hill. You have 100 bosses, all of whom think they’re going to be the next president.’

“What I found was just the opposite of what many people outside the Beltway think. Everyone who comes here is so well-intentioned and nobody works harder than these senators.”

Pickle, who plans to form a government-affairs firm specializing in homeland security, transportation and healthcare, displays portraits of his 36 predecessors on his office wall, going back to the first one in 1789.

One, who served from 1919 to 1933, wrote a tell-all book about his experience and was censured by the Senate for doing so.

Asked if he plans to write such a book, Pickle said, “I don’t have enough to say.”

There have been several predictions that once the DIMRATS took power in Wash, a lot of [some say 7] devastating things will happen such that they will be so overwhelmed they won't be able to cope and will go down in utter shame.

We shall see.

We have been expecting dramatic things for a long time. I don't know God's timing. But a lot of folks seem to agree with Pat.
