We agree … even with my stupid “100,000 feet” thingy. Bye the way … Merry Christmas.

Not true. The first guillotines were sometimes not properly weighted (they were carted around from city to city and got jossled a lot on the roads), and the blade had to be sent down a second time to completely severe the head from the neck.

Very messy business, but sure to draw a crowd.

Anyone even try to hit Gary Gilmore in the forehead? And if you tried a stunt like that - would you be invited back?

Yeah - as a practical matter, putting aside the fun we're having considering more exotic or in the case of the bolt, more economical methods, I don't see why we don't do more executions with a bullet to the brain.

It's sure a heck of a lot less complicated and error prone than the gas chamber, lethal injection or electrocution methods that seem to be recommended these days.

The human brain remains conscious for 7.5 seconds without any blood at all, as I remember. Upon severing the head, It surely takes a few seconds for all the blood to drain out. The 7.5 seconds would start then. I would guess a severed head would lose consciousness in about 10 seconds.

In Idaho they should be using recycled paper products to absorb that blood. Its a waste to use sandbags that have to then be cleaned (or discarded) when a much better alternative exists.

Beheading is barbaric and unnecessarily disfigures the corpse. If I had to be executed, I would choose a single bullet through the heart, with no blindfold or bag over the head or hands or feet bound. I wouldn't want my last seconds to be in the dark.

Outdoors, summertime, on nice cut grass, warm sunshine on my face...perfect...and not unnecessarily trumatic to any loved ones I might be leaving behind...open casket funeral still perfectly doable.

Dear Groanup,

If you will consider for a moment that the left wing addicts also vehemently support the failure of our troops, and some actively support organizations that condone honor killings, rapes, mutilations, and beheadings (oftentimes without the benefit of a trial), I would suggest to you that the LWA are the ones who should be regarded as primordial.

They have, upon siding with groups that encourage and condone such actions, lost their moral authority to claim the high ground.

As to various methods of execution for criminals, this is a good debate to have. So long as the death penalty exists in certain parts of the country, then the quest should be to ensure that only the guilty are executed, only the most terrible of crimes receives this sentence, and the most humane method of termination is used. In the interim, people will invariably express any number of unpleasant things - because despite the continuous presence of evil among us, it is good that we are still horrified by it and react strongly to it.

Why didn't they just kick 'em out of the Navy and send 'em to the Air Force? Oh that's right, there was no Air Force back then;)

"Firing squad still remains a method of execution in Idaho..".

I thought that Montana gave a condemned man the same choice.

Primordial is NOT discussion--stolid or wry--of various methods of ending the lives of proven, condemned murderers and rapists.

Primordial IS...ignoring the screams of the innocent unborn being blenderized alive while in their mothers' wombs--or having their BRAINS SUCKED OUT so their skull collapses and Mommy can pass Junior with only minor inconvenience.

Primordial IS...ignoring the pleas and hopes of the 'imperfect' and elderly being euthanized.

The LEFT is Primordial.

They had a similar system in Thailand until just a few years ago. The major difference was the condemned was strapped over a frame so that he would be shot in the back, and there was sort of a target on a screen in front of him so that the shooters did not actually aim at him, but at the target, and did not have to witness the impact of the rounds. Actually it might still be in use in some areas.
