If you've seen pictures of the Western Hemisphere from space, you can hardly see anything mad-made at all.
Man - he struts about the globe all puffed up with his self-importance: WE warm the globe, WE destroy rain forests, WE tear down paradise and put up a parking lot.
Yeah, right. Move out of a city and it would immediately turn into wilderness.
You certainly called that right. First birds land on a building. Then they reduce takeoff weight (those nasty white or colored messes, remember?) and from the messes sprout trees from the seed the bird ate.
Then the little tree puts out little roots. The little roots work into the small cracks, grow, and split off the concrete.
After the roots expose the steel frame, rust starts and soon the high rise building is on the ground.
Wouldn't it be nice if some of the Communism Lite types started to concern themselves with the preservation of America for a change?
"Have you considered the example..."
I'm afraid I haven't. You made some very good points in your post. I don't believe zoning is essential and should have been more clear in what I posted. I said:
"...there has to be someone managing how the real estate is utilized."
I should have said, in large cities, it's easier to convince the residents that there has to be somone managing how the real estate is utilized. For instance, a company purchases land and builds a paper mill or a hog farm in close proximity to a residential or shopping district. After the stench drifted through the district, it would be easier to convince the people in that district that zoning is necessary.
