WIsh I could...I enjoyed that trip[ several years ago when he spoke to you folks in 2000 I believe.

With the illness and death of my father and brother last year, and with my own surgery earlier this year, I am fresh out of vacation and leave to make the trip.

Tell everyone hello for me though! I'll be there in spirit.

I believe you are wrong with your post. States have constitutions which require them to ask for federal assistance. If it wasn't for the State Constitutions then we wouldn't have States Rights and the Feds would control everything.

"We have to teach people what a callous, potentially deadly scenario they are caught up in, one that can literally kill them in such circumstances."

Jeff, I think most of these people are beyond the learning stage. Self responsibility is something that comes with the desire for independence. That is a character trait not known to most people who have been on public assistance for decades. I guess the desire for independence fades away after a length of time when you haven't been able to exercise it.

Televison, soda pop and candy bars appear to have replaced just about everything in their lives that you and I hold so near and dear.

You are probably right...but we have to make the attempt just the same because there are (1) Some who will hear, and (2) a need to end such programs and begin weaning these people off such disasterous social experiments.

Actually, I do not believe they are "experiments" at all, I believe they are a willful attempt by leftists, liberals, and RINOs to make these people dependent on them purely for political and ideological purposes. Perhaps if we can mix that fact in with the teaching these people will get mad enough to awaken from their slumber and shake the chains of liberty robbing dependence from themselves and their children.

I want to own a gun, but I am afraid of them.

So am I, even though I own 9 of them. I converted what fear I had of my own firearms into a healthy respect. quite some years ago.

With firearms, familiarity breeds respect, not contempt. (Sometimes it breeds carelessness too, but that can be guarded against by personal discipline).

Well, yes, agreed, every man (or woman) has his limits. If something went on for months, there would be some stealing no doubt. I doubt rapes and murders, even after just two measly days, such as ocurred in the Anarchydome. But the Kanto Earthquake, the Kobe Earthquake, absolutely devastating atomic attacks on Hiroshima, Nagasaki, fire bombing of Tokyo, Hokkaido disasters, I could go on and on, have showed time and again Japan is a country of minimal complaints, low tolerance for social chaos (i.e. looting), low entitlement mentality, and amazing resilience with a forward looking, responsible, positive "yaruki" attitude by and large by the society, in the face of unimagineable destruction.

Can you suggest some alternative weapons if gun is problematic due to legal disability of someone in household and too great a risk of getting caught. Crossbow and a lot of arrows?

We'll be studying this one for years!
At least I hope we learn some lessons which might help during a WMD attack on a major city.

Bow and arrow, knife, axe, ice pick, sword, etc., etc.

But, if there is anyone in the home who can own and use a gun, be trained in its use and educate others with firm assurance that it will not be misused...that is the best option in such a circumstance IMHO.

Misuse of a weapon does not limit itself to guns. Any of the aforementioned tools can also be abused and turned to ill.

You are wrong. The the National Guard answers to the state govenors in domestic situations, unless the govenor allows the fed to take over. It has been repeatedly reported from the LA govenor's own staff, that she refused the request. The govenors of the other effected states invited the feds to take over before the storm hit.

I don't know where you are getting your information, but it's not correct.

On the other hand, there is also clearly an undercurrent of criminal violence that has also oft showed itself...ie. Nanking.

IOW, if they think it is justified, they have done acts of looting, rape and pillage in the past, as have most other cultures.

Oh well, either way, such lessons and principles outlined in this thread will only work for people who have a firm basis in foundational moral principles in any case. Here, or there, or anywhere else.

BTW, Brett and I talked about being able to teleconference such an event so that our friends like you could share it live.

Since you are a much more advanced geek on computers than we are, can you offer any simple suggestions.

Maybe you could send me an e-mail?

Agreed...that was the inference of my last paragraph. Our enemies are also watching and taking note.

This is speaking of a legal disability. There should really be a fallback plan outlined by survivalists, as there is all too much of this gun prohibition stuff and too many eager beaver gun grabbers. Seems to me for instance that it would be better to bring, say, arrows than a knife to a gunfight (assuming other guy has gun), if you can't bring a gun too. But has anyone put the question to serious study.

If they can learn to read America's 2-party politics (some have claimed they're too dumb to, but they were smart enough to topple Spain to a socialist candidate) America is done for. If I know I have two democrats to bowl over at a local level before I have to deal with a republican, I'm going to put that point high on my list of possible places to attack.

Well, Jeff, we might have to split some hairs here.

Wars of Agression to promote imperial fascist systems and regional if not global domination, by nature, involve unforgiveable mass raping, murder and looting upon the invaded populace being brought under cruel submission, particularly when it is resisting (like Chinese did in Jiangsu Province) which fueled the animal of the Japanese Imperial Army into unfathomable atrocities up the river in Nanjing.

What I was talking about is the domestic situation in Japan where if an earthquake or major national disaster occured, what the general response is based on sociological structures in Japan, shame, group-think, patience, and other generally accepted Japanese national characteristics.

Besides, behavior of Japan through its SDF in Iraq, etc. have shown they have more or less turned over a radical new, postwar leaf in that regard. They are one of the most accepted foreign troops in Iraq and are highly appreciated by Iraqis in Samawah, for example, as being considerate, kind and helpful. I know Nanjing was none of that!

Need a high speed internet hookup at the place, a web cam set up there (many video cameras can operate in usch a mode), some chat or other typing interface software, and an online site to host the web cam and chat display so others can watch and respond.

There are also service providers who provide such services including everything (from above) that you need...of course for a price. (Webconference.com, webex.com, btconference.com etc.)

You're right again.

It is a willful act by the RINOs and the left to create an underclass for voter registration purposes.

We need to expell these bastards from office before this problem festers any longer.
