No doors to the interior on the north and east faces. I suppose THAT could be altered.

I need to get a nail gun. Every nail was driven with a hammer. Luckily I drive nails with my left and right hands or I'd look like a fiddler crab. I started learning carpentry from my grandfather when I was 5 or 6. The porch would have been easy if I had been staring without the existing deck. Working within constraints made it a real problem solving headache.

and, since the land slopes gently down towards the East, that'd give me FAR more room to play with than I have on the west face.

serious renovation is always more challenging than new construction.

case-in-point: whoever the [expletive] built my house 50 or so years ago did a CRAP job with the floor-joists. About the only reason my hous does not fall the [expletive] over is because the tongue-in-groove sub-flooring was put on at an angle to the floor joists.

What I need to do, before I mess around doing any additions, is crawl under the floor and install (individually tailored, non-standardizeable) cross-trusses beween every floor-joist.

drunken asshats...

nailguns are great believe me....

I can drive nails with my left, but I'm lefthanded and my right is nearly useless with that stuff....

Next spring we are putting an addition up on my house and I will have some pics of how that goes....

I will be doing most of the inside work as I can drywall pretty well, but I will leave the exterior wall and the roofing to the contractor....

there's only one good spot to put in a door: on the north corner of the eastern face. It'd open into my kitchen right next to the cabinet next to the stove.

Easy job. Get a flat bed wagon for mobility. Sort of like a mechanic's creeper.

Roofing sux. Even when it is only 350 sq ft with no ridges or shoulders. I did mine by warning my neighbors I would be hammering predawn on Saturday morning. Even then the stooping is tough on the old back.

not enough clearance for that (lots of crap strung under the house, plus various pipes) and it's a dirt floor inside the foundation footer walls.

this will be a "worm in the dirt" job.

yeah... the back roofline is about 2 feet higher off the ground than the front roofline. it's a pretty even gradient.
