12. He is supposed to have surgery
but the hospital won't accept him until he pays his previous bills, which he's incurred in the past month or so since he's been sick, and which total over $10,000. He has applied for Medicaid, but it is still pending. There is no further info because he cannot pay for any more tests. Welcome to George Bush's America.

Andy's sister, Janice, was suffering from some terminal illness--I forget what, but it was probably hereditary--at the time his Subway sandwich shop was going belly up.
Which did not stop Andy from trying to milk a dying sister of resources better spent to make her shortened life easier.
