But I get the feeling his ego is such that he wants the attention and power and trappings that would go along with being a Congresscritter

You have to have the blessing of one of the established parties to become a congresscritter and he was virtually ignored by the Dumbocrats of Wa. State when he ran for Sec of State.

He ain't part of the in crowd. DU is not the established Dumbocrat party and thats who he needs.

The peeps he has credibility with are viewed as faaaaaaar left wingnuts by the mainstream Dumbocrat party.

The Grand Duh-mmie "Skinner" probably already has the 1,000 dues-paying members--he always does--but prolongs announcing the goal has been reached until the last day of the drive (and then refuses to state by how many, the goal was exceeded).

The Grand Duh-mmie "Skinner" never reveals dollar totals--unlike Free Republic--but the Grand Duh-mmie "Skinner" unwittingly revealed that DUmmieland takes in something less than $100,000 per year ($96,000? $97,000?), when he mentioned that in raising $50,000, felonious Andy and the deeply-troubled-multiple-personalitied DUmmie "sfexpat2000," raised two time as much as a quarterly fund-drive (like this one) for DUmmieland.

For the record, Free Republic raises about three times as much as DUmmieland, per year.....although Free Republic has more than three times the members, and much more than three times the traffic, as does DUmmieland (donate to Free Republic if you can, folks).

Somewhere on Free Republic, one can find an income-and-expenses report; one cannot find such a thing anywhere in DUmmieland. Which leads me to suspect that either the Grand Duh-mmie "Skinner" comes from money, or that the Grand Duh-mmie "Skinner," the Assistant Grand DUmmie "Elad," and the 5th Assistant Grand DUmmie "EarlG," wait on tables and somesuch, so as to keep DUmmieland going--it surely costs more than $100,000 per year.

So these guys are probably waiters and bus-boys on the side, struggling to keep DUmmieland going, while freely allowing the felonious Andy to use them for free, for his more-lucrative fund-raising.

Thanks! I've found a few more as well by searching Andy Stephenson +cancer. I got 168 hits, but haven't sorted through them all yet.

I'll add those at the bottom of the list. They won't be in alphabetical order for now. I'm running short of time right now and will work on it later tonight and tomorrow.

I did a google on his paypal account name and came up with 122 sites asking for money:

That doesn't address the income from advertisers.

I'm not so sure that a glorified bulletin board costs 100k per year. I saw some DUers grousing about Skinner was gonna upgrade the servers last year but nothing had been done. Bet he got a 'grant' or some such for the initial investment (servers and software) and the other two are just tech nerds who keep the ship floating.

All right, one of you needs to be the "Exulted Keeper of the Websites Involved" (or some other creative title, think of something important sounding like "journalist", or "Creative Consultant" or "Senior Vice President in charge" of blah blah blah) - the master list of all websites that have been found to contain an appeal for donations from Andy&Friends.

This whole affair just surprises me. When we first got this running 2 weeks ago, not in my wildest dreams would I have imagined a split between Will Pitt and Andy. All the documentation we have. I certainly never expected to ever talk to Andy. Having Bev Harris pop up on here herself? Oh Man! If this had been foretold at the beginning, who the hell would have believed it?

CU link, check out post #814.

which led me to this thunk:
you think Andy may have some extra DU names, just so he can pat himself on the back whenever needed?

Perhaps some of his most faithful followers don't even exist.

Would be interesting to see if there is anything to this... like how long does it take for a tagteamer to appear on one of Andy's threads or responses on DU.

Me, too. I think we should start a separate "I Believe" thread in mock-honor of Andy&Friends.

I have a suspicion that this is really a continuation of the Big Bev Blowout, one way or the other. It's been going on much longer than 2 weeks. I'm reading thru the Bev Bash threads at DU to try to get some perspective (wish me luck!).

Volunteer franksolich already showed up!

From post #2946

I am starting to get bites from various media, all of them telling me, "well, give me the Reader's Digest condensed version, and then the evidence." Uh, this is comparable to reducing War and Peace into two double-spaced typed pages. So, I have a proposal--keepers of the time-line, please note. I will gladly "sacrifice" my profile so as to contain the entire time-line, if those involved will send it to me. This way, I can give the reporters the link to one single place that has the sordid, tawdry details; also, this would give everyone who wishes, the advantage of just having to "click" on my name, to get those same details. Of course, since my "profile" is password-protected, that would mean that only I could make changes, amendments, and additions--but even though I've gotten six dozen eggs on my face the past two weeks, I'm sure I have enough "credibility" with all you others, to trust me to make those changes, amendments, and additions in a timely manner (and if not, P-J Comix, Charles Henrickson, speed-addiction, Purrcival, JLO, and commonguymd, will probably tie me to a bison, just to see what happens). This is all up to you, the keepers of the time-line. But I do need to have this all set up so it is easily accessible to news reporters; if anyone has a better idea, holler. Or if you like this idea--having my "profile" be the time-line, please send it to me. I'm going to sleep now; I'll be back later on in the day. 2,946 posted on 05/20/2005 8:28:46 AM CDT by franksolich (still on track)

Oh, no.....frank is the Synopsis Czar. He won't have time to work on the links list. I would volunteer but I am now a highly respected "journalist" and Online Investigator™ for the FR News.

Of course you know I'm kidding. I have tried to compile a list of the websites, but usually get side tracked searching for other things. I'm not sure who will come forward to keep up on the list of websites but I have a partial list for comparison.

Ok, I have a simple, honest, naive question here.

How is it possible, that someone could perpetrate a hoax of this magnitude, in plain view of soooooooo many sites on the Net? I looked at that link with 122 sites and it BLOWS MY MIND!! I have thought all along something is not right with this, and I know things have not been presented honestly, but I'm having a hard time wrapping my mind around the idea that this could really be done.

Am I just naive here? None of this makes sense to me.

LOL! I was thinking the list links would be part of the synopsis. You, know all the sites who got snookered.

I know there is another person who is some other list Czar about this; but can't recall the name.

I think it's because people are basically good and are so willing to help someone in need... and the fraudsters know exactly which buttons to push.

I can't believe this either, it's absolutely astounding how this has mushroomed. someone posted earlier a guesstimate of what may be the total haul for Andy - from all these sites - and I couldn't believe it then - now I'm not so sure that this thing could be in the 7 digits.

but we will never know.

Oh, isn't that special? Now Al Gore has blessed us with multiple internets...

________________________________________________________________

Please donate to DU -- Still the best online community on the Internets. (May 20th 2005)

I hope that you have all noticed that this week we are having our second quarter fund drive. Once again, our goal is to bring in 1000 donations before midnight on Sunday.

If you have already donated during this fund drive, or if you are a monthly subscriber, I want to thank you for your support. Thanks to your early and ongoing support, we are on track to make our goal. But we still have a way to go, and we need more people to help us out.

If you have not yet donated during this fund drive, please take a moment to donate right now. I know that many of you have been planning to donate all week, but you just haven't taken the time to do it. Believe me, I understand. This place can be so interesting and entertaining and irritating and thought-provoking that sometimes it can be extremely difficult to tear yourself away, even for a moment. You think to yourself, "I'll donate later," or "I'll donate tomorrow," or "I'll donate on Friday, when I get my paycheck" (hint, hint). If you've been meaning to donate all week, but just haven't done it yet, I am asking you to please donate now.

The fact that you are sitting in front of your computer, reading this message should be proof enough that this place has value. Where else on all the Internets is it possible to find so much useful information, engage in discussions about important issues, and interact with so many smart, friendly, like-minded people? Where else can you get The Truth about what is going on in our country? I have always believed, and I continue to believe, that this is the best online community, bar none. Democratic Underground: there is no other place quite like it.

Sure, you might not approve of everything that gets posted here -- no one does. Sure, you might not agree with everything that the moderators and administrators do -- no one does. In fact, there are probably times when this place makes you downright angry -- it happens to all of us. But that is not necessarily a bad thing. Here's why you disapprove and disagree and get angry: Because you care about this place.

Democratic Underground is not perfect, not by any stretch of the imagination. But all things considered, it's pretty darn good. If you are sitting there reading this post, then you know deep down that it is true. Can you imagine what your life would be like without DU?

Fortunately, you don't have to. Please donate now, to help insure that DU will always be there for you, and for all of our members.

Thank you so much for your support.

David Allen
"Skinner"
DU Administrator
