"It's not because [Americans] are not generous enough," James Zogby, president of the Arab American Institute, tells the San Francisco Chronicle. "It's because [American] generosity of spirit has not applied to the issue that's most problematic for them. It's not responsive to why people in the Arab world are furious with America. The region has its own tsunami."

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi found herself on the defensive Thursday morning over the decision by Senate Democrats to put former Ku Klux Klansman, Sen. Robert Byrd, in charge of efforts to derail the confirmation of Secretary of State-nominee Condoleezza Rice. "I don't think that whatever Sen. Byrd is doing has anything to do with his sad past," Pelosi told WWRL radio hosts Steve Malzberg and Karen Hunter... As recently as 2001, the West Virginia Democrat was forced to apologize after blurting out during a nationally televised interview, "There are white n****rs, I've seen a lot of white n****rs in my time. I'm going to use that word." In 1972, Byrd pushed to have the Senate's main office building named after Dixiecrat Sen. Richard Russell - a leading opponent of anti-lynching legislation who Byrd called "my mentor." Byrd filibustered the landmark 1964 Civil Rights Act for 14 straight hours. Three years after he said he'd left his white-sheeted brethren behind, he wrote to Georgia's Grand Imperial Wizard urging: "The Klan is needed today as never before."

Ward Churchill, chairman of the ethnic studies program at the University of Colorado at Boulder, will be on the Clinton campus Feb. 3 to discuss his essay "Some people push back," ..."True enough, they were civilians of a sort," he writes of the victims. "But innocent? Gimme a break." In the piece, the Native American rights activist argues that the 3,000 people killed in the World Trade Center attacks worked for "the mighty engine of profit," calling them "little Eichmanns," a reference to the man who implemented Adolf Hitler's plan to exterminate Europe's Jews.

"By definition anyone who holds public office in an occupied country is a collaborator. This would include, for example, Palestinian Authority 'leaders' under the Israeli occupation of the West Bank and Gaza. Now a collaborator may or not be a good person, and he may or may not be laboring under a benevolent occupier, but he is certainly a collaborator and thus a fair target for nationalist/patriotic resistance forces seeking to expel the occupiers."

Add this Mark Silverstein:

Churchill has a right to free speech but taxpayers do not have to subsidize his views... The Colorado chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union... legal director Mark Silverstein said,"Certainly the First Amendment protects his ability to write freely and speak freely, especially when the writing in question occurred outside his classroom duty." *

Guess again, a-hole. Since the SCOTUS has been ruling that the majority view doesn't have constitutional protection of this kind, the majority has the right to pull the plug on some BS vomited forth by a hater of the majority.

That's "the political seduction of the law" that Robert Bork tried to warn you about. A-hole.
