Designed placemarker. Ah; but can someone tell it is just by looking at it?

Ah; but can someone tell it is [a designed placemarker] just by looking at it? About as well as with anything else.

About as well as with anything else. And better than some. Modern art and some of the stuff I've seen sashay down a fashion show runway come to mind.

Yesterday was one of the most gut-wrentching, glorious days I think I will ever experience this side of Heaven. I am completely spent and exhausted. I did get some fairly good sound and some fairly very good recordings (as far as recording on the fly with no re-mixing goes) I used up a ton of Kleenex. I have never seen anything in person like that in my entire life. There were hundreds and hundreds of people all giving from their whole heart in service and tribute at the same time. I am still stunned by the whole thing. If you heard it, the music alone would knock you off your feet. (Man, after that funeral, I'll be glad if they can find 6 guys to carry out my casket:^)\
Anyway, the answer to the the pic is, suprise, suprise; DESIGN.
You would never get outboard motors with bushings, drive shafts, rotors, universal joints and propellers simply by shaking up the parts in a box, even assuming that you had all the parts in the first place. Anytime I see a bushing, I know there's an engineer behind it somewhere:^)

My condolences. But wait'll you hear "Amazing Grace" from a half dozen bagpipes in a Scottish funeral. You just gotta be there to appreciate it.

Sounds like the guest of honor was a very lucky man to have such friends. Personally, I don't worry too much about finding people to carry me out - I told my wife that I wish to be stuffed and mounted by a taxidermist upon my departure. She has provisionally agreed, provided that I can be put in a "natural pose", which I believe she described as "sitting on the couch and holding the remote" ;)
Regarding the last picture, I'm sure I don't have to tell you that labels like "bushing" and such are functional descriptions inserted by artists and scientists, and may or may not bear any relation to the things we think of as "bushings". So I won't bring it up.

Anytime I see a bushing, I know there's an engineer behind it somewhere:^) In this case, a really, really, small engineer.

I told my wife that I wish to be stuffed and mounted by a taxidermist upon my departure. She has provisionally agreed, provided that I can be put in a "natural pose", which I believe she described as "sitting on the couch and holding the remote" ;) hehehe. You know, that's an idea I hadn't considered. That's probably my natural pose at home, too. Just as long as they don't mount my head on the wall....
Regarding bushings, I do understand that the labels applied to the object are attempts to describe real functions and interactions of its various parts, and that molecular machines really don't come with actual labels attached.:^)
Contemplating your next pic.

Thanks for the condolences 666. I'm too sentimental. I can't even stay composed with one bagpipe, much less six:^)

Congratulation Alamo-Girl! 5 years! Wow. You would have justly deserved fame here just for your archives alone, but you have also also enriched this place in so many other ways. Thank you so much for hanging around for so long, and for all your wonderful contributions.

Thank you so much for the kudos and encouragements (blushing here)!!! Hugs!

Additional congrats. Now could you use some of your vast knowledg of the site to explain how the categories and ping lists work. Currently there are crevo or science related threads in every possible bucket. Unless we are specifically pinged, it becomes hard to tell whether a thread is still active.
Will it ever be possible to subscribe to a thread? Or will the topics be narrowed down enough to subscribe to a science topic?

Thank you so very much for the kudos! I don't know of any way to tell whether a thread is active either. I bookmark the ones I want to check every week, and use the search by poster to find crevo threads. A search for PatrickHenry or gore3000 will usually yield results.
Bump lists are nice too because they can be used not only to bump people directly to the thread, but to send a "broadcast" Freepmail to all the members.
It might be a good idea to have a science topic if we can list articles in more than one topic at a time. Science stuff tends to hit everything: current events, religion, smokey backroom confrontations.
Any software enhancement recommendations would need to be addressed to John Robinson.
