My homestate of Mississippi whites voted 88% GOP in 2008 and nearly 90% in 2012

I would also point out that using % votes for GOP is a bit misleading. In any race, the Democrats might run a conservative Democrat against a more liberal republican.
In any race a senior (multiple reelections) person might run against a new face, and have the advantages of incumbency and organization. That doesn’t mean that the district is more one or the other, just that the district has been groomed over the years by the incumbent.
The deluded people of the southern states were groomed for years to do what they were told, and followed the slave holding class of politicians into a disasterous war. After that, they drove out people who tried to reform the south and help them be educated and free. Eventually some bastions of education were developed, such as the Research Triangle in NC, the Redstone Arsenal, and small outposts of civilization around colleges and military bases.
As time goes on, those outposts grew, and continue to grow, despite the best efforts of those who have learned nothing and forgot nothing.
Ever wonder why the southern partisans are so few? They were wrong in 1860 and are wrong now. We need all people of good will to work together against the evil people who seek to enslave us all, and their dupes. The best way to work together is to educate the dupes, and not tell the lies that have made people easy to manipulate for the last 100 years.
So lets work together on cutting the government back to its legitimate functions. We can do that in Alabama, in Virginia, and in California, but mostly we have to do that in Washington DC, in the very belly of the beast.

By contrast, they would never have someone like you. I find that you have terrible problems with projection. Perhaps you can get help with that.
