For any who wish it, statistics on hunting accidents in Texas can be found

BTW Did any "reporter" inquire about the number of quail Cheney bagged? Have they 'reported' to PETA yet about his inhumanity in feathered friends?

God forbid anyone should sleep in the middle of the night.Rationalize, rationalize.
They could have always released it first thing the next morning.
Why can't we bring ourselves to make a fundamental observation as to that the VP's office errored here? Is it just because the press gets over him for everything, we feel compelled to defend him even if a given action deserves some criticism from us? I've seen the hunting accident downplayed to a stupendous degree - on the web's leading gun information and safety website. I've seen people who would have gone in a conspiracy fit eight years ago about a 24 hour delay by Clinton rationize this delay.
Gawd, just step back from the spin machine for a moment and think through this one lucidly.
Cheney made a serious error in judgement in how he hunted Saturday.
He compounded that error in waiting so long to make the story public.
These are not offenses calling for resignation.
But we also should not be rationalizing them away.

Did you hear the girl at the end who asked "Would this be worse if the man had died?"Had I been Scott, I would have leaned over the podium and asked her, "Miss, What did you have for breakfast this morning? An extra large bowl of STUPID?"

No, actually they waited for the landowner to make the report to the local daily paper, not a family member. It really doesn't make sense, and really does make it look like a cover-up. Bringing the Ted Kennedy thing into it actually makes it worse; it makes the media wonder if they were waiting for Cheney's blood alcohol to clear, the way Kennedy did. Seriously, the delay was foolish, and the explanation doesn't wash. It took a couple of hours to be sure Whittington had the best possible care: when he was flown to the trauma center. That was early Saturday evening. The only reason to delay until Sunday afternoon would be to miss the Sunday morning talk show cycle.

An hour later and they are still asking the same questions. If I was McClellan I'd tell them we've covered this and unless you have something other than this to ask me then this conference is over!

Oh, get real. Good grief.

Ok. I don't know who notified the prss. It's not worth arguing over.
It makes no difference to me. I think the whole thing is blown way, way out of proportion. I strongly dislike the SOP of the press.
But you expect that from people playing gotcha. And with The President and Vice President, the press is one great big game of gotcha all the time.

Well, I sure am tickled to see that you finally have something you can act superior and self-righteous about. Enjoy your 15 minutes.

22 hours is not a long time to wait to release details of a relatively minor hunting accident to the press.

Or he would have lost in a landslide when the American Public (in general) saw how really boring and despicable he is.

Look, dirtboy, you have every right to your opinion about the delay in reporting this, but your continuing repetitions of that opinion is getting a bit tiresome. I get it already.

He doesn't need to call her stupid. She's perfectly capable of looking foolish and childish all on her own. Just let her keep talking.

Why is it so necessary that the press be notified at all?? As long as Drs, the families, and assumably the Sheriffs were notified, why is the Vice President's job to notify the press?

it makes the media wonder if they were waiting for Cheney's blood alcohol to clear, the way Kennedy did. What? Where are you getting this blood alcohol stuff? I'll admit I wasn't able to watch the whole press conference, but this is the first I've heard of this suggestion. In fact, it sounds precisely like what is probably brewing over on DU and/or Kos...
