Sex always gets in the way. ;o)

I agree, unless there is absolutely no physical attraction.

And here in lies the problem.

Very good analysis.

I have a close female friend that I have known since high school. We have been friends for over 20 years. So like you said, we are more like siblings.

Funny thing is, even though we are both married, her Mom remarks from time to time, that it is too bad that her and I didn't get together. I suffer from Eddie Haskel syndrome.

As God is my witness,
one of my closest friends is male and he's been my buddy since first grade.

We were the two 'brainy geeks' in our class. Yeah, there was a smidge (just a smidge) of sexual tension in our teens. But he married the girl next door (literally) inviting me and just one other person to their wedding 21 years ago.

Every time they are in town, they drop by. And I've even been invited to his family events. It's strange to some, but really, he's my bud!

"...All they do is email each other all day, and do very little work..."

Sounds like our work. We have an employee - employee of the month (a first for us, as we work for a technology management company that manages the client's technology resources). She did a fantastic job, had good follow-up on open helpdesk calls, etc. A model employee.

About two months later, she started to frequent around a co-worker's work area. From them there it turned into IM, phone calls, an argument not related to a work issue, etc. Worktime for her and some friends is scheduled around lunchtime soccer, or floor hockey or volleyball. Other times are spent in another co-worker's office giggling and laughing - and doing nothing else. Supposedly, the co-worker is helping her with a "work project".

I've mentioned her antics to her supervisor - he does not want to deal with it. She went from an outstanding worker to easily one of the worst workers in the department in the space of one year.

I've advised the FT employees and Interns that work for my group to steer clear of her.

Didn't read the whole thing, but, if my man were having an affair of the head and heart, it would be equally as traitorous as one of the body.

No it doesn't. 99.999% of my friends have been male.

Oops, wait a minute. I have lost all of them to marriage. I mean, I am still friends with them, but, of course, their spouses and families are their first priority. So I rarely get to see any of them anymore, and I never get to hang out with any of them alone (sans spouse). I'm just glad that most of the wives either like me or tolerate me.

I guess sex does get in the way.

Damn it. I have been arguing about this for years. Here I was thinking that it was(implied) sex(ual tension) between my friend and me, which was the basis of this statement. But the sex which gets in the way is the sex between my friend and his spouse.

Selfish bastards!!

Just kidding.

Friendships with the opposite sex are important to feminists...

Yet, strangely enough, friendships with feminists aren't the least bit important to the opposite sex. ;)

The ones that don't who have a dirty mind are probably looking for viagra...

Viagra isn't going to change the state of one's mind. Or if it does, Pfizer needs a new marketing campaign. ;)

The "men have dirty minds" characterization, though common, is inaccurate. Men and women have different sexualities - there is no "better" and no "worse". Women aren't morally superior just because they are somewhat less likely to find visual imagery sexually stimulating. Though admittedly it's easier for the priests, preachers, and politicians to impose guilt and sin taxes on visual imagery than on romance novels, so that characterization has been a handy fund-raising tool throughout history.

Nothing. But a guy that is that wrapped up in his lover, neglecting his wife, seems like cheating to me!

Men and women can actually be friends with absolutely no sexual tension.

Unless they both find each other very attractive and are drinking wine together, then I'm not so sure....:)

That's horsehockey. I've known my two best friends for 33 years now, and the fact that one of them is female has never amounted to a hill of beans.

I agree there is some pretty steamy romance novels out there..But you are correct it is the visual imagery that is condemned because you can see it...Reading is what you see in your mind...

See, so women actually have much dirtier minds than men, because when they read those books, they have to make everything up in their heads. Meanwhile, a man's thoughts are as pure as the driven snow and involve things like baseball and apple pie...until he accidentally sees some of those terrible pictures. ;)
