Ironic that that was about nursing home bills, isn't it?
It does not matter what you or I think about this issue. The Constitution was written is rather simple English and established the powers of the Federal government.
If you can site the exact paragraph in the Constitution that granted the Federal government the power to make laws pertaining to a specific family, we are all ears!
If not, then the laws of our land have been obeyed correctly on this issue.
What was done to your grandmother was cruel...to do CPR on a woman of 90, against her wishes is absolutely hideous....bless her heart, she is with God, so sorry that you and your family had to endure such assault...
I had been caring for both my parents, in their home, in California...I lived with my husband and younger son in Washington State...thank goodness my husband is a saint, who told me, when dad was diagnosed with cancer, to go and care for them and be with them...he, my husband, would take care of our younger son, take care of the house, ,and still work...he would do his job, and my job, for as long as it was necessary...
Dad died after a few months...I went back and forth from my home in Washington to California to care for mom with Alzheimers...after two years of doing that, it was enough...I brought mom up to Washington State with us...
And I took her to have her examined by the doctors up here..now they told us nothing different than the doctors in California...after her exam, the doc called me and wanted me to come in for a chat...and so I did...
He wanted to know what I wished for mom, what moms wishes were...he said he would honor our wishes, no matter what they were, even if those wishes were contrary to his medical judgement..I told him, mom wished for nothing done for her...the doc agreed...he told me that mom was in such bad shape, that her death could occur the next day, or a year from then, there was just no way of knowing...
And so I took mom home, and cared for her...she died almost 2 yrs later...thankfully I had the financial means to hire an agency to have help for a few hours a week, so that I could get some rest...when mom peacefully died, on a Sunday afternoon, I called the agency, who then sent out a nurse to verify my findings...then the agency called the doctor...at was at this point, that I found out, that after the doctor visit two years earlier, my doc had called the coroner, to inform him that mom would be dying at home, and she was under his care, receiving 2X a week reports from the visiting nurse...so when mom died, all the doc had to do was call the coroner, who looked up her name in their computer files, and no coroners wagon or ambulance showed up at my house...which is what the doctor had intended, that my house not be turned into a circus...bless that doc...
As a funny side note, mom had decided that when she died, she wanted to donate her body to science...and the University of Washington had agreed to take her...they came down from Seattle to Olympia, where we lived, and two very young(at least to me), and respectful gentlemen, took her and gently placed her in their van...and off mom went...
We laughed about it later, that mom always wanted to go to college but never got the chance...now, in death, she was going to college...but she thought, having medical research done on her body, might help medical science along...
And which wild eyed conspiracy minded lunatics claim here that 'Terri is Jesus' ?
One of the strange bedfellows in all this is that the Christian Right is sleeping with the wacko, left wing, disablity rights crowd.
I hate it when people lecture and yell at me on some threads. It is just tiresome.
Hi. God bless you.
It's good to see you again...
"...EXACTLY. All Jeb has to do is to declare a state of emergency in Pinellas County, send in Florida National Guard troops as the local judicial system has become clearly corrupt in their efforts to murder an innocent woman, take that citizen of Florida into protective custody, place her in the best medical facility available, and direct the doctors to first reconnect the feeding tube and hydrate Terri, then after stablizing her, conduct a full battery of diagnostic tests, including an MRI, and when she is able to make any sort of rudimentary communication (and she will), have Charlie Crist present to see if she can give any information on how she 'collapsed' 15 years ago..."
LOL. And how about no more pictures of Hillary that are at all attractive or after her cosmetic "work". I can't stand her looking at all decent. ;-)
Ones you would, based on this thread you started, feel quite at ease with... why do you ask? ;0)
That post is unbeleeeeeeeevable!
You need to skip on down to the bottom of this thread; we're actually discussing this rationally!
cajun, the people on this thread are on this thread for that exact same reason.
I can peel the paint off a Harley at ten paces with my language-usage, and melt the ears off a buzzard in flight.
Yeah, I sorta rushed through the thread and saw no mention no mention of "Satan" and figured it was safe.
I am coming to the conclusion, if the rad right and the rad left were all going off to do their own thing, the big old middle might be a reasonable place to be.
And that is why Hill is positioning herself right there.
To be more specific, trying to draw parallels between Terri's suffering and that of Jesus's. Especially in that people are giving the situation a greater religious context. For instance, stating that Terri's imminent execution isn't due to our barbaric 'justice' system, but is in fact a Satanic ritual murder.
I can see your point though, in that no one is literally suggestsing that she is Jesus. Next time I rant angrily I'll be more precise in my wording.
Hardest two things for me after getting out of the military was starting to use civilian time, and swearing.
Converting to civilian time was easier.
Conservatives are now doing what the Libs couldn't accomplish. Rip each other apart and risk dragging down the movement. Some have called it a Conservative "Crackup." All I know is that this is extraordinarily painful.
I have fought tooth and nail for this movement for thirty years. Now, with success at hand we are witnessing the coming apart of a very solid coalition of Social, Process, Libertarian, Populist and other "hybrid" Conservatives. The inability of people to deal with different points of view in a very difficult and complex case without vicious insults is very sad.
I feel it would be best to start all over with Terri Schindler's case. I pray the last ditch efforts to replace the feeding tube is succesful. However, I am not happy with the process. I do not believe the Federal Government has any buisness in the case. I despise the hyperbole, the misrepresentation and outright lies that have been concocted to make the case. There is so much misinformation and ignorance out there and it is taken as gospel. It is not pretty. It is not what I expect from Freepers and our Movement.
This situation is causing me great diffculty. I consider myself a Social Conservative, a libertarian and a "Process" Conservative. Thus, this case leaves me incredibly CONFLICTED.
Just being "conflicted" is not enough for many. I have said on the air (KSFO-San Francisco) I support Terri's struggle. We do not starve people to death in this nation. But, to many that's not good enough. If I express reservations of any sort concerning the pro-Terri zealots or discuss my concerns about questions of Federalism issues, I am questioned about my Christianity. Some say "you are brainwashed by "G-D Michael Schiavo"...
I'm a big boy. The critiscm comes with the territory. However, what really hurts is seeing what we have worked for coming undone. The Nation is watching this display and seeing a scene that fits all of their stereotypes of what they believe "The Religious Right" to be. How many of you saw the 10 year old boy handcuffed in Pinellas Park (where I lived when I did a show in Tampa-St.Pete 1980-83)and taken to jail for trying to bring water into the hospice. What do you think the average American thought when viewing that scene? I have interviewed Randall Terry and Bo Gritz over the years. We agree about most issues. However, I find it dissapointing to see them out front and the face of our movement.
It is time to get back to basics. What I have fought for over the years is in jeopardy. I was doing Conservative talk radio before it was "cool." When Rush was "playing the hits."When we were in the wilderness it was easy. Now that we have a good deal of the power our movement has lost its way.
The Republican Party has long since abandoned Conservative principals. It has become a "Governing" Party. Not a Conservative vehicle. The display of Congressional hearings on steroids in baseball followed by the unfortunate Congressional involvement in the Schiavo case is simply the perfect symbols of how we have lost our way.
Conservatism is about the government that governs least governs best. Government is a necessary EVIL. We should be concerned that we have lost sight of the notion of individual Freedom which brought most of us to the Movement. Hayek, Friedman,Kerr et al.
The GOP should concern itself with defending the nation. Providing security in the war on terror, and keeping our military as strong as it can be. The GOP should be about turning back the welfare State, defunding the Left, protecting our borders, cutting our tax burden, and generally downsize the Federal Government.
Activist Judges are a HUGE problem. There is tyranny on the bench. I discuss these out of control unelected officials all the time. However, the Schiavo display is simply providing the Libs with fodder in the battle to keep Bush nominees off the Court. They will appeal to their base and, more importantly, to average middle of the road voters, with "see what you get if these people control our Courts?" The display the extremists are putting on plays right into their hands. And the irony is, I see nothing to suggest there is "judicial Activism" in this case. I know the arguments. I have read the legal particulars ad nauseum. The Judges have simply followed established law and Florida Statutes. They haven't made law. Quinlan and Cruzan have established the guardianship issues. Scalia in Cruzan made it clear. This is NOT A FEDERAL CONCERN.
I have never posted anything remotely as emotional and as lengthy as this in all my year here. I do it because we need some sanity. People of good will can disagree without being called names and worse. Disagree without being disagreeable. This is a very complex and personal issue. People here deserve to be treated with respect. And when the Schiavo ordeal has been resolved I just hope and pray we can come together and move forward to push legislation in the States, where the issue belongs, that clearly protect those who would die such a horrid death. Then Terri Schiavo will not have suffered in vain.
Aaargh. Personally, I feel there is no getting through to such people.
Actually some have done that very thing. So, son't worry about your wording ;0)
