AccuWeather's expert team of meteorologists says a powerful and far-reaching storm will form at the end of the week and unload everything from heavy rain and gusty thunderstorms to high winds, snow and a rapid freeze-up across the eastern third of the United States. "Confidence is growing for a significant storm that will bring wide-reaching impacts," AccuWeather Meteorologist Alex DaSilva said. The end-of-the-week storm will form along the central Gulf Coast as frigid Arctic air dives southward and collides with warm, moist air across the South. From there, the storm is expected to ride north-northeastward along the leading edge of...

A pair of winter storms will wring out more snow and ice during the week of Presidents Day from the West to the Plains, Midwest and Northeast. True to form for the typically busy month of February, the weather pattern is setting up for an active week ahead, with impacts over much of the country. First, the jet stream will take another sharp southward plunge into the West early next week. A surge of energy will swing east out of that jet stream plunge early next week, followed by a second, stronger disturbance later in the week.

Joe Biden had another disastrous day Friday in Texas. Of course, the liberal media once again hid this from their audience. Advertisement - story continues below Biden traveled to Houston, Texas with his handler, Dr. Jill, but she couldn’t save Joe from his mid-stage dementia. Joe was confused and lost and even admitted it during his brief speech. Joe Biden: Lizzie Panilli, uh, excuse me, Pannill, and uh, what am I doing here? I’m going to lose track here. And, uh… Mayor Turner… My family spent a lot of time here in Houston by the way. And, uh, hey John...

The group chat was labelled “XXXX Lovelies” (presumably the name of their street); it included some of the women in the Cruz family’s neighbourhood. The subject was the cold weather they were experiencing in Texas, but it quickly turned to going away, when Heidi, the wife of Republican Senator Ted Cruz, asked whether any of the families were up for a trip to Cancun. The Cruz family getaway, of course, went viral, and the Texas senator, 50, faced fierce backlash after pictures emerged of the couple and their two daughters, Caroline, 12, and Cathryn, 10, flying out of the state...

Ted Cruz has been criticized by the media for vacationing in Cancún, Mexico, while Texas was experiencing severe winter weather that caused millions to endure power outages. Cruz, a U.S. senator, has no role in coordinating the state or federal responses to the crisis. Nevertheless, Cruz is being targeted. During the onslaught, a screenshot of an alleged tweet by Senator Ted Cruz went viral. You’ve probably seen it. The tweet, allegedly made in September 2016, shows Cruz saying, “I’ll believe in climate change when Texas freezes over.”On Friday, Snopes, which is hardly known for being politically objective, debunked the tweet....

I’m writing from Texas, so I’ll try to finish this column before the electricity goes out. As you may have heard, we’ve had an unusually powerful winter storm down here and, in spite of the fact that every third household has a four-wheel-drive super-duty pickup truck, Texas has come to a standstill. When a little bit of ice settled on the freeway, a half a dozen people lost their lives in the ensuing 135-car pileup.

Millions are without power in Texas after a historic winter storm blasted the state over the weekend, creating freezing conditions that have made the roads dangerous and knocking out nearly half of Texas' installed wind power generation. Texas grid operators who spoke to the Austin American-Statesman said freezing rain and historically low temperatures caused wind turbines in West Texas to freeze to a halt, knocking out some 12,000 megawatts of energy production. Wind farms in Texas typically generate up to 25,100 megawatts of energy, almost half of which is currently out of production as the state works to thaw out...

The story of how Texas was brought to its knees by crippling cold weather leaving millions without power is a complex one, yet entirely predictable and avoidable. The details matter, so it is important to know the long story, but let’s start with the short version: For years, Texas’ grid operator (ERCOT) has overestimated the ability to maintain a reliable grid without a sufficient supply buffer, known as a “reserve margin.” That margin is the difference between demand for electricity and what the grid can produce. When demand exceeds production, you get blackouts. That buffer has been shrinking because reliable...
