A Wisconsin Walmart manager recently followed store policy in Northern Wisconsin. They interacted with a long term friend of mine. He is an accomplished world traveler, due to his vocation as a missionary. He has traveled extensively in Europe, Asia, and Australia. He has often remarked about how little freedom most of the world has, compared to the United States. He is a brave man. I marvel at the dangers he considers routine.  When in the United States, he openly carries a sidearm, most commonly a Glock .40 caliber semi-automatic pistol.  He says liberty, unclaimed and unused, is easier to lose....

A Racine, Wisc., judge ruled Wednesday that the city’s coronavirus safety ordinance was too broad for citizens to understand and violated the state’s constitution, the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reported. Racine County Circuit Judge Jon Fredrickson wrote that the order was “likely the strictest, and most over-arching COVID-19 order or ordinance in the country," adding "This court finds that no average person of ordinary intelligence can make sense of its sprawling breadth." The city has appealed the decision, the latest of several against the city by Frederickson, who then-Gov. Scott Walker (R) appointed in 2018. Frederickson said the city’s limitation on mass...

Parents in North Freedom were forced to protect themselves by firing a gun at their son, who allegedly shot in the windows of their home and went into the house with his own weapon, according to a press release from Sauk County Sheriff Chip Meister. At about 3:45 a.m. Monday, deputies responded to a call from one of the parents at 113 South Oak Street. Dispatch officers were told the intruder and homeowner were shooting at one another. When they arrived, officers saw the shot-out windows. They deduced the man had shot out a side patio door to get into...

State unemployment staffers are so busy, the Cuomo administration is asking City University of New York employees and civil servants from other agencies to help with the deluge of paperwork and callbacks. The beleaguered state Department of Labor needs additional staff to process some of the unemployment applications filed by tens of thousands of people suddenly out of work due to the COVID-19 pandemic . . There are now 3,000 people working on the phones and processing applications seven days a week, he added. That’s up from the just 400 representatives in place before the health crisis. Penny Errico-Nagar, 62,...

“I went to the election. I chose not to vote for president. I signed the everybody sucks campaign,” she deadpans. But in the years that followed, Goetz, 40, has gradually moved from “never Trump” to “probably Trump” . . . One day after the rally, Trump campaign manager Brad Parscale tweeted out data gathered from people who registered for the Milwaukee event: Of the 20,395 registered, 15,738 said they were voters from Wisconsin, 57.9 percent said they were not Republican and 4,313 said they didn’t vote in 2016. Some of those 4,313 nonvoters will be people just like Goetz, who...

A Wisconsin judge ordered the state to take as many as 234,000 people off its registered-voter list Friday because they may have moved — a decision that could impede residents of this swing state from voting in next year’s presidential election. The case centers on a letter that the state Elections Commission sent in October to hundreds of thousands of voters, asking them to respond if they were still at that address or to update their registrations if they had moved. Conservatives filed a lawsuit alleging that to avoid fraud, the commission should have thrown out the registrations of voters...

A correspondent I have known since his childhood spends a large part of his time overseas as a missionary. Coming back to Wisconsin, he was surprised to find a “No Firearms Allowed” sign at a Denny's. I believe this is a local policy, decided by each local manager of the franchise. My correspondent gave me permission to edit the account of his reaction. His overseas experience has made him appreciate the freedoms Americans take for granted. His account: Returning to America after having been gone half a year, lends itself to re-entry culture shock. I recently returned to the...

Well, the days of Scott Walker running the state are long gone. That’s regrettable. Former Democratic Rep. Beto O’Rourke, his real name is Robert Francis, went nuclear on the gun control issue. He wants to outright confiscate firearms, specifically so-called assault weapons. Why? Well, to liberals, they’re scary looking. That’s about it. He wants to confiscate the private property of law-abiding Americans. It’s illegal. It’s not going to happen at the federal level anytime soon because a) Bob isn’t going to be president let alone the 2020 Democratic nominee, and b) it’s a losing issue. What can happen though are...

Aug. 19 (UPI) -- A Wisconsin family said they were shocked to discover a live frog inside the salad they bought from a local supermarket. Karlie Allen said her family bought the plastic container of Simple Truth Organic lettuce salad at the Pick 'n Save store in Glendale and didn't discover until inside their home that the container also housed a live frog. Allen said her family planned to return the salad with the frog intact the next morning, but they discovered the amphibian escaped the container overnight and was perched on an outlet by the kitchen counter. Pastor Phil was not raised with guns. He was raised in Chicago, where guns were associated with crime and gangsters. He did not own a gun until he was in his 60's, after taking the call to become pastor of a struggling church in the North woods of Wisconsin. LAKE HALLIE, Wis. (FOX 9) - Authorities say the murders of four people in two separate shootings in western Wisconsin over the weekend may have been an attempt to copy the abduction of 13-year-old Jayme Closs last fall. Sunday night, law enforcement officers learned two people were found dead and two more were injured at a home in Lake Hallie. A short time later, three more people were found dead in a duplex in the nearby town of Lafayette. The suspected shooter was among the dead. Chippewa County Sheriff Jim Kowalczyk identified the suspected shooter in all four murders as...

He woke in the early morning hours, well before sunrise. What was that noise? It sounded like a mouse, chewing on something. Then he realized the noise was not from inside the house. It was from outside the house. He grabbed a rifle, the ubiquitous Ruger 10-22. Prior experience had shown him a .357 magnum was too much gun. Putting on hearing protection in the middle of the night is inconvenient, not to mention waking the entire family. Fortunately, the family dog was kenneled at night. His doggy talents were unsuited to the task required. The pest was revealed...
