Trump to Cuba: Return woman convicted in NJ trooper's murder Associated Press Published 2:49 p.m. ET June 16, 2017 | Updated 19 hours ago MIAMI — President Donald Trump has demanded that Cuba return a woman convicted in the murder of a New Jersey state trooper. Trump made the demand for the return of Joanne Chesimard while announcing changes to Obama-era Cuba policy in Miami Friday. Chesimard was convicted in 1977 in the death of Trooper Werner Foerster. He was killed during a gunfight after a traffic stop on the New Jersey Turnpike in 1973.

White House officials would not tell NBC News whether President Obama will raise the issue of 70 fugitives from U.S. justice — including convicted cop-killer JoAnne Chesimard — who are hiding in Cuba when he meets Cuban leaders during his visit to the island. ... Chesimard, who fled to Cuba in 1984 after escaping from a New Jersey prison in 1979, was convicted of the 1973 execution-style murder of New Jersey State Trooper Werner Foerster. She is on the FBI's Most Wanted International Terrorists list, and is the most notorious of a group of criminals and violent radicals who have...

Cuban collaborator Assata Shakur, formerly Joanne Chesimard, is a leftist role model Disgruntled black students at the University of California at Berkeley are demanding a campus building be named after convicted cop-killing terrorist and fugitive from justice, Assata Shakur. The reason for the demand? In the stated opinion of the school’s Black Student Union, blacks are disrespected on campus. BSU member Cori McGowens told reporters that “trying to excel academically is immensely difficult while coping with the issue of antiblackness on campus.” “It troubles me that I have already been told countless times that antiblackness is not an issue to...

U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez today asked the State Department to give the return of convicted cop-killer Joanne Chesimard “the utmost importance” in new negotiations with Cuba. In a letter to Secretary of State John Kerry, Menendez said that Chesimard and other fugitives must be extradited to the U.S. before Cuba is removed from a list of state sponsors of terrorism. …

The invitation of rapper Common to a White House this week is drawing the ire of the union representing New Jersey state police. While not even casual hip-hop fans would characterize him as a controversial rapper, Common found himself under the microscope after First Lady Michelle Obama invited him to the White House for an arts event. FOX News and Sarah Palin criticized the decision after the Daily Caller published some of Common's lyrics, including some that criticize President George W. Bush. For Jersey police, the outrage centers on a song by Common about Assata Shakur, formerly known as Joanne...

Let all decent human beings this day remember Werner Foerster, a New Jersey state trooper slain in 1973 - for tonight there will be a nauseating gathering to celebrate (yes, celebrate) the armed prison break that freed one of Foerster's convicted killers. An organization that should know better, the big public employee union SEIU Local 1199, has opened an auditorium at its headquarters to a group that lionizes fugitive Joanne Chesimard, aka Assata Shakur, as a heroine whose "liberation" from prison 27 years ago it considers a bright moment in American history. Sponsors of the Hands Off Assata Campaign include...
