As secretary of state under President Obama, Kerry was instrumental in the 2016 signing of the international Paris climate agreement. Last year, the Trump administration announced its intent to withdraw from the agreement. "It's ideological, and frankly, it's short-sighted and it's stupid and it's dangerous," Kerry said. "President Trump's decision to pull out of Paris will cost lives, lives of Americans. It will cost billions of dollars." "There are countless economic analyses that show it is cheaper to make the investments and do the things we need to do now to prevent the damage than it is to wait for...

Global warming may be making income inequality worse across the world. This Earth Day, Stanford University researchers said gradual temperature increases over almost five decades have helped created financial disparities between poorer, typically warm countries and richer, typically cooler countries. Without climate change, the divide between nations with the largest economic output per person and nations with the smallest output per person would be 25% smaller, says the new study. Instead, climate change has been a drag on growth for many poorer countries and enriched many wealthy countries. “Countries that are very warm tended to exhibit slower economic growth whereas...

FULL TITLE: 99.9999% chance humans are causing global warming, and other science-based facts on climate change for Earth Day. Climate change is real and increasingly a part of our daily lives. New research and studies out in just the past six months highlight the latest facts about the human-caused shift to our global weather systems and its effects on our planet. First among them, there's no longer any question that rising temperatures and increasingly chaotic weather are the work of humanity. There's a 99.9999% chance that humans are the cause of global warming, a February study reported. That means we've...

The Bramble Cay melomys, a rat native to Australia, is claimed to be the first mammal to go extinct from "human-induced" climate change. (Ian Bell, EHP, State of Queensland) In late February, the Australian government recognized the extinction of the Bramble Cay melomys, and it is probably the first mammal to go extinct due to "human-induced climate change," or anthropogenic climate change, according to a report by Queensland scientists. According to multiple studies published in peer-reviewed scientific journals, 97 percent or more of actively publishing climate scientists have arrived at the hypothesis that "climate-warming trends over the past century are...

Of all the devotees to the left’s fervent cult-like religious belief in man-made climate change, perhaps none have been more annoying, and provably wrong, than former Secretary of State John Kerry — save perhaps for the climate change cult leader himself, former Vice President Al Gore. As a top official in former President Barack Obama’s administration, Kerry used his position and clout to further the narrative that human activity was causing devastating damage to the earth’s climate, so much so that drastic action needed to be taken, such as raising taxes and sacrificing freedom and liberty to the government, because...

A weather whiplash is predicted to hit people in the Rockies and Plains this week, as conditions go from balmy to blizzard overnight. The high is predicted to be around 80 degrees in Denver and other cities Tuesday — but within 24 hours, blizzard conditions are forecast, the National Weather Service says. "Warm today. Snow tomorrow," says the NWS office in Denver and Boulder, Colo., predicting temperatures that could hit record highs Tuesday — followed by rain turning to snow, in a blast of cold air that will ride winds of 40-60 mph on Wednesday. For many central U.S. residents,...

WASHINGTON (AP) — Earth’s glaciers are melting much faster than scientists thought. A new study shows they are losing 369 billion tons of snow and ice each year, more than half of that in North America. The most comprehensive measurement of glaciers worldwide found that thousands of inland masses of snow compressed into ice are shrinking 18 percent faster than an international panel of scientists calculated in 2013.The world’s glaciers are shrinking five times faster now than they were in the 1960s. Their melt is accelerating due to global warming, and adding more water to already rising seas, the study found.

Of the $54 million believed to have been invested in Mantria, $17 million was returned to early investors to perpetuate the Ponzi scheme and make later investors believe huge profits could be had. By the time the Securities Exchange Commission shut down Mantria in 2009, just $790,000 remained from the other $37 million. In addition to the sheer size of the scam, the reach that Wragg and Knorr achieved in a few short years out of college remains hard to fathom. Former President Bill Clinton personally honored their now disgraced work in a ceremony for the Clinton Global Initiative in...

(WASHINGTON, D.C. – April 8, 2019) Tomorrow the House Oversight Committee, led by Chairman Elijah Cummings (D-MD), will conduct hearings on the interconnected challenges of solving climate change and protecting national security. With the Trump administration ignoring longstanding warnings from the military about the impact of a changing climate on defense infrastructure and the dangers of increased instability, it is a critically important area for investigation for the Congress. The hearing follows a letter by fifty-eight senior national security officials warning about the dangers of climate change. "For more than a decade, the Department of Defense has warned presidents from...

In the awkward aftermath of the Green New Deal’s rollout, perhaps the most appropriate question for its supporters, especially the Democratic presidential field, is one often posed by tennis bad boy John McEnroe: “You cannot be serious!” But, apparently, when New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Massachusetts Sen. Edward Markey introduced their proposal in February, they were deadly serious, and breathless progressives couldn’t wait to hop aboard the climate change express. First in line, the Democratic presidential candidates in the Senate who were eager to offer up their enthusiastic support. There was just one snag. The Green New Deal, in...

On Instagram Live Wednesday night, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez spoke to critics who laugh and make jokes about her often-repeated statement that "we have twelve years left to cut emissions by at least 50%" to stop the most devastating effects of climate change. "For everyone who wants to make a joke about that, you may laugh, but your grandkids will not," she warned. "So, understand that the internet documents everything." "For those of you who are trying to mock and delay this moment, I mean, I just feel bad for you. I pity you for your role in history right now,"...

Montreal (AFP) - Canada is experiencing warming at twice the rate of the rest of the world, with the effects most pronounced in the country's north, according to a new government report cited by local media Monday. Average temperatures have risen by 1.7 degrees Celsius (3.1 degrees Fahrenheit) since 1948, or about double the global average of 0.8 degrees Celsius, and "will warm further in the future, driven by human influence," according to a report by Environment and Climate Change Canada, which will be made public Tuesday. In northern Canada, approaching the Arctic Circle, temperatures rose on average by 2.3...

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., gave a vigorous defense of her signature Green New Deal initiative on Friday, rejecting Republican criticism that it's socialist. The freshman Democrat said she expected the pushback from the GOP to her plan, which calls for a complete transition to renewable energy by 2030. "But I didn't expect them to make total fools of themselves," she told MSNBC's Chris Hayes during an "All In" town hall at the Albert Einstein Medical Center in the Bronx. "I expected a little more nuance, and I expected a little more 'concern trolling,'" meaning disingenuously expressing concern.

Hey, remember when Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) said that fighting global warming was our generation’s World War II? It was an idiotic remark, but then she pushed policy to back up her words. Alas, the Green New Deal was born. An economic disaster, which seeks to transition the nation off of fossil fuels in a decade, kill farting cows, upgrade all buildings to energy efficient standards, whatever those may be, and eliminate the combustible engine. It’s the epitome of intrusive government and it comes with a $90 trillion price tag. This is on top of the far left’s jobs guarantee,...

March 27 (UPI) -- One day after the Senate stymied attempts by progressive Democrats to pass the Green New Deal, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi introduced more scaled-back legislation Wednesday to fight climate change. The House Democratic leader unveiled the Climate Action Now Act at a news conference on Capitol Hill. She said its aim is create more jobs and guard the environment. "It's about good paying green jobs. It's about public health, clean air and clean water for our children."

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., on Tuesday tore into a Republican colleague who suggested the so-called Green New Deal she is championing is “elitist.” “This is not an elitist issue; this is a quality-of-life issue,” Ocasio-Cortez said during a House Financial Services Committee meeting. “You want to tell people that their concern and their desire for clean air and clean water is elitist? Tell that to the kids in the South Bronx, which are suffering from the highest rates of childhood asthma in the country." “Tell that to the families in Flint whose kids have their blood ascending in lead levels,...

**SNIP** "We need a new president, and we need a president committed heart and soul to the climate crises," Gore said during an activist training conference in Atlanta hosted by his nonprofit, nonpartisan Climate Reality Project. "I'm very happy that so many of the Democratic candidates have made it clear that's the way they would intend to govern if they won." Trump's presidency "is unfortunate in so many ways," Gore said, but he also credited Trump's open contempt of the scientific consensus that human activity affects the Earth's atmosphere with pushing many moderates and even some conservatives toward the more...

I come from a long line of farmers and timber people, folks who made their living from what grew out of the ground, men who had a great and abiding respect for the soil and water – who harvested the timber with an eye on selective cutting, for leaving seed trees to replenish the woodlands, for never leaving the dead trimmings next to a standing tree to keep the bugs who attack dead wood from going into a live tree and killing it. They would let fields lie fallow every so often to give the soil a rest and let...

Temperatures To Decrease 0.5°C-0.7°C Due To Low Sunspots, Solar Minimum. Published on December 29, 2017 Written by Kenneth Richard During 2017, 120 papers linking historical and modern climate change to variations in solar activity and its modulators (clouds, cosmic rays) have been published in scientific journals. It has been increasingly established that low solar activity (fewer sunspots) and increased cloud cover (as modulated by cosmic rays) are highly associated with a cooling climate. In recent years, the Earth has unfortunately left a period of very high solar activity, the Modern Grand Maximum. Periods of high solar activity correspond to multi-decadal-...
