The Defense Department’s inspector general will review the academic investigation of plagiarism allegations against Sen. John Walsh. The Montana Democrat is accused of not properly attributing certain material in a paper to complete his master's degree at the Army War College. Carol Kerr, the school’s spokeswoman, said it would launch an Academic Review Board to look into the matter. The results and any recommendations will be forwarded to the Defense Department IG for its “consideration.” The New York Times first reported last week that a review of a 2007 final paper suggests the decorated Iraq war veteran “appropriated at least...

Last summer, Philip J. Crowley stepped down from his post as a State Department spokesman before stepping into a War College fellowship in conjunction with Penn State. What preceded his exit from Foggy Bottom were some undiplomatic comments that he made about the Army’s treatment of Private Bradley Manning, who leaked classified documents to WIkiLeaks. “The unauthorized disclosure of classified information is a serious crime under U.S. law,” Crowley stated in his resignation letter on March 13, 2011. “My recent comments regarding the conditions of the pre-trial detention of Private First Class Bradley Manning were intended to highlight the broader,...

The United States Army War College caters to high-level military personnel and civilians and prepares them for strategic leadership responsibilities. It is the U. S. Army's most senior military educational institution. At the college students are instructed in leadership, strategy, and joint-service/international operations. The college's student body always includes officers from the other military branches, civilians (from the Pentagon, State Department, and the National Security Agency), and several dozen senior officers from foreign countries. Apparently Dhimmitude has been added to the curriculum U.S. ARMY WAR COLLEGE. Sherifa Zuhur, Research Professor of Islamic and Regional Studies at the Strategic Studies Institute...

Today President Bush traveled to Carlisle, Pennsylvania and spoke to the US Army War College about national security and the war on terror. The President also thanked the veterans in the audience for their service. (Transcript) I know many of you have served overseas in the war on terror. This weekend, I was honored to make one final trip to the front lines in Iraq and Afghanistan. During my trip, I had the opportunity to spend time with men and women in uniform, and I've got to tell you, there is nothing better, to be the Commander-in-Chief, and stand in...

A new report by the U.S. Army War College talks about the possibility of Pentagon resources and troops being used should the economic crisis lead to civil unrest, such as protests against businesses and government or runs on beleaguered banks. “Widespread civil violence inside the United States would force the defense establishment to reorient priorities in extremis to defend basic domestic order and human security,” said the War College report. The study says economic collapse, terrorism and loss of legal order are among possible domestic shocks that might require military action within the U.S. International Monetary Fund Managing Director Dominique...

Geopolitical limitations render Israel's air force militarily incapable of halting Iran's nuclear weapons program according to a new report published the by U.S. Army War College. The report asserts Israel lacks the military capability to locate and destroy Iranian nuclear assets. The report said the Israel Air Force cannot operate at such long distances from its bases. "The Israeli Air Force has formidable capabilities and enjoys unchallenged supremacy vis-à-vis the other Middle East air powers, but Israel has no aircraft carriers and it cannot use airbases in other Middle East states," the report entitled "Getting Ready for a Nuclear-Ready Iran,"...

NEW YORK, June 26 /PRNewswire/ -- The model for President Bush's speech to the nation this week was his address to the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle, Pa., last year, Newsweek reports in the current issue. At that time, the public was badly rattled by the gruesome images of guards abusing prisoners at Abu Ghraib prison. In the War College speech, the president laid out some markers for the Iraqis on the way to achieving "democracy and freedom" -- and allowing American troops to go home. Two of those mileposts have been passed: the turnover of sovereignty a year...

CARLISLE, Pennsylvania (AP) -- Far from the front lines, Tommy Franks, Norman Schwarzkopf and other generals have found a peaceful place to study on the bucolic grounds of the U.S. Army War College. They study war tactics and hone leadership skills in the college's quaint stone buildings, located at a military installation that dates to the Revolutionary War era. But its history and illustrious roster of graduates haven't kept the War College off-limits as the Pentagon plans its new round of military base closings. Based in central Pennsylvania for 54 years, the college is considered vulnerable to relocation to a...
  • Why Bush’s War College Speech Fell Flat -- Know Your Audience, Speak to Them

No one gets to be President of the United States without substantial experience in public speaking. Only a rare few and only occasionally, rise to the rhetorical heights of an Abraham Lincoln. Only a rare few (fortunately) sink to the depths of deception of a Bill Clinton. But all should be at least marginally adequate at the task. In his Iraq speech Monday to the War College in Pennsylvania, President Bush failed to reach that low standard. The first rule of public speaking is: Know your audience. The second rule is: Speak to the interests of your audience. Many Americans...

US Army Report Criticizes Handling of Fight Against Terror Alex Belida Pentagon 13 Jan 2004, 18:46 UTC The Bush administration's handling of the global war on terrorism, including the decision to invade Iraq, is being criticized by an unexpected source: a study published by the U.S. Army's War College. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld routinely acknowledges the war on terrorism will be neither quick nor easy. But Mr. Rumsfeld also asserts repeatedly that the United States will not back down from its commitment to fight that war, especially when it comes to the ongoing struggle with insurgents loyal to the ousted...
