  • Bill Would Nix Annual Political Contribution Recertification

Senate Bill 283 would eliminate Michigan's annual recertification requirement for deducting political contributions on an automatic basis. Under current law, the default is for automatic contributions to end each year unless the individual involved certifies that he or she wants to keep contributing. Senate Bill 283 would switch that dynamic so the contributions would automatically continue unless the individual requested they be stopped. Michigan's current annual recertification law (also called affirmative consent) was passed and enacted under former Gov. John Engler. It is most commonly associated with payroll deductions for Political Action Committees (PACs). When the measure was passed it...

Kansas and Arizona filed a lawsuit against the U.S. federal government on Wednesday seeking court approval to require proof of U.S. citizenship when registering to vote. The lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Topeka, Kansas, by the two Republican-led states accuses an agency of President Barack Obama's Democratic administration of preventing them from enforcing state laws aimed at preventing illegal immigrants from voting.

There are obviously verifiable vote fraud problems in North Carolina. In 2010 those problems surfaced meaningfully as indicated in the below voter fraud post from an earlier Charlotte Conservative Examiner article: Perhaps in an effort to promote North Carolina as one of the healthiest States in the Nation, this latest voter twist comes to us from Susan Myrick of the Civitas Institute in North Carolina--not to be confused with Rep. Sue Myrick of NC who is unrelated. In a radio interview with local WBT Anchor Tara Servatious, Susan reports that she has been keeping track of the number of votes...

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) -- A few weeks after moving to suburban Kansas City from the Seattle area, Aaron Belenky went online to register to vote. But he ended up joining thousands of other Kansas residents whose voting rights are in legal limbo because of the state's new proof-of-citizenship rule.

While “A Tale of Two Cities” focused on London and Paris, if Charles Dickens were writing political novels in the present day, he might choose to examine Wisconsin and Minnesota as “A Tale of Two States.” The historical election results of 2010 have had an undeniable contrasting impact in these two states that both the mainstream media and political prognosticators are beginning to grasp. In the 2010 midterm elections, Republicans realized unparalleled success, particularly in the Great Lakes states such as Pennsylvania, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin where Republican gubernatorial candidates were elected along with Republican majorities in legislative chambers. The...

Donna Brazile, the Democrats' all-purpose spokeswoman for civil rights, was at it again the other day, flaying "Republicans" for conspiring to suppress the voting rights of black and minorities. "Republicans," as she put it in a USA Today column, "are pushing restrictive voter ID legislation in states around the country that will make it more difficult for people to make their voices heard." She singled out North Carolina for "an extreme law" requiring students attending college outside their home counties to tender government-issued identification -- e.g., drivers' licenses -- instead of student ID cards. She didn't mention Texas, but that's...

WASHINGTON — Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. announced on Thursday that the Justice Department would ask a court to require Texas to get permission from the federal government before making voting changes in that state. The move opens a new chapter in the political struggle over election rules after the Supreme Court struck down a portion of the Voting Rights Act last month. In a speech before the National Urban League in Philadelphia, Mr. Holder also indicated that the filing, expected later on Thursday, was most likely just an opening salvo in a new Obama administration strategy to try...

In the coming weeks, Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. is expected to announce that the Justice Department is using other sections of the Voting Rights Act to bring lawsuits or take other legal action to prevent states from implementing certain laws, including requirements to present certain kinds of identification in order to vote. The department is also expected to try to force certain states to get approval, or “pre-clearance,” before they can change their election laws.

“Barry Soetoro” is a registered voter in the District of Columbia with a White House address according to the D.C. Board of Elections. According to a search at the D.C. Board of elections using the search terms Barry Soetoro, President Obama’s date of birth and the zip code of 20500, a registered voter of that name is registered to vote at the White House for D.C. elections. Barry Soetoro is a name that President Obama has used in the past. Did President Obama submit this registration, or is it a fraud? Who knows? Obtaining the actual registration forms (or on-line)...
  • The real third rail in American politics

The conventional wisdom still holds that “Social Security is the third rail in American politics.” The metaphor refers, of course, to the third rail of electric-powered trains, and touching that rail will most likely be fatal. Like most conventional wisdom, though, it is clearly wrong. For example, if some politician discussed making social security voluntary, it is difficult to see how such a concept would be fatal—especially if articulated to younger voters. What would be fatal is the notion of taking social security away from those already receiving and relying on it, and I’ve never heard anyone suggest that. The...
  • California Senate Bill Allows Non-Citizens to be Poll Workers

It seems that the normal fraud associated with elections in California isn't enough for the progressive liberals who rule that state. Now the California State Senate has passed a bill, sponsored by Rob Bonta, that allows non-citizens to work at polls to help voters when they cast their ballots. The legislation requires that the non-citizens be legal immigrants who have permanent residency status (I'm actually stunned that they're required to be legal immigrants). Moonbat Senator Norma Torres, who placed the bill before the Senate, bleats that, "These individuals have the absolute right to make fully informed voting decisions on Election...

The Obama administration has been collecting enormous amounts of communications and other data on Americans. The justification which is offered (and which is being accepted on both sides of the aisle) is the need to monitor this information to protect us in the age of modern terrorism. The most credible complaint we hear is that they’re gathering data on their political opposition. The IRS scandal gives weight to this thought. But an overlooked motive will play a pivotal role in 2014: this data-mining effort, in significant part, is a vehicle for getting votes. We’re told that no one is listening...

A second aide to Rep. Joe Garcia, D-Fla., resigned last week as part of an ongoing election fraud investigation that continues to fester in the freshman’s office. Garcia’s communications director, Giancarlo Sopo, submitted his resignation only weeks after Garcia’s chief of staff, Jeffrey Garcia (no relation to the congressman) resigned at the end of May. “Giancarlo informed me on Friday that he was resigning,” Rep. Garcia said in a written statement to CQ Roll Call. ”I thanked him for his service to our office. I understand that he is cooperating with investigators and hope that this will give him an...

PHOENIX — Arizona no longer needs to get federal government sign-off for changes in its voting laws. The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday overturned a section of the Voting Rights Act which created a formula to determine which states and counties have a history of discrimination and therefore must submit any alterations to the Department of Justice for "preclearance.'' That list of nine states has included Arizona. Chief Justice John Roberts, writing for the majority, said he and his four colleagues are not saying there is no longer a problem. "Voting discrimination still exists,'' he said. "No one doubts that.''...

A landmark Supreme Court ruling that struck down a key part of the Voting Rights Act has set up a stand-off between Republican-led states and the Obama administration over controversial voting laws that until now had been stalled. The 5-4 ruling on Tuesday addressed a 1960s-era provision that largely singled out states and districts in the South -- those with a history of discrimination -- and required them to seek federal permission to change their voting laws. The court ruled that the formula determining which states are affected was unconstitutional. ********************** Attorney General Eric Holder warned states against going too...
